Evra has been a magnificent servant for this club and the best left back we've ever had. Still I think having Baines as our first choice left back will help the club immensely.

Don't go! :(

Love Paddy. One of my favourite players of the past few years.

My favourite Paddy moment was when Carrick scored against Wigan in 2009, and he joined in the celebrations. It was shortly after all that furore surrounding Rafa Benitez making a derogatory hand-gesture when Liverpool scored against Blackburn to pretty much wrap up the game, so Rafa started making some sort of gesture on the sidelines that the game was all over. A hand gesture which Fergie stepped in and commented on, to stick up for his buddy Big Sam. So when Paddy celebrated with Carrick for his goal against Wigan which effectively gave us the title, he sprinted to the United fans and leapt through the air, mimicking the same hand gesture.

Shame there's not many good pictures of it

Hope he doesn't go. I always hoped he'd retire here and be a part of the club for a long time. He's just got such an incredible character about him, in a Gary Neville sort of way, in that we all love the guy, yet everyone else probably hates him, as he's a very outspoken, heart-on-sleeve sort of guy.

If he leaves, I'm going to sit in a corner in the dark, hugging my Patrice Evra autographed football, and shed big, manly man tears, whilst blubbering East 17's "Stay Another Day", because like East 17's Tony Mortimer, I don't think I can take the pain either.

It might be a good time to move on, but damn you've got to love Evra and it would be awful to see him leave.

Our goal-scoring machine will not leave us.. If we'd just made him to score from corners a couple of years earlier, he'd have loads more by now..

Yeah, I loved that moment too.

He's had so many brilliant moments like that.

He might stay :(.

What is it they say about sentimentality and football?

If Moyes wants to improve left back and signs Baines to replace Evra I'm all for it. Whatever Moyes thinks he needs to be as successful as possible as United manager, especially early on.

Obviously I'll support the managers decision like, I just wouldn't do the same if it was me.

Would you say the same if one of our top players left for a bigger club? No place for sentimentality in football?

He's been a fantastic player for us and his impact goes deeper than what he does on the pitch, ofcourse people would be sad to see him go.

I think Baines would do very well for us, but if Evra leaves football is dead to me and I'll never watch a game again.

One of our top players leaving would have nothing to do with sentimentality. Evra is 32, not at his best and we're talking about a currently better player coming in. For all we know it could make or break our title defence next season

He was excellent last season. I wouldn't mind seeing Baines here, ready to take over in a year or at most two, and to allow us to seriously ease Evra's workload in the meantime. But I'd be disappointed to see him go. Still easily good enough for us.

I got your point. What am saying is its easy to say no place for sentimentality when we're getting someone better in but would you have the same opinion if a player showed no sentimentality and left for a better club? No. You'd hold it against him. Loyalty etc.

Baines is too good to be a backup. He's as good as Evra is atm if not better.

I think Evra himself wants to go in this case. There is nothing Moyes could do except to find a replacement

There was a mutter few weeks ago that Monaco were willing to offer 10m for Evra, that is good business if you ask me although we will all hate to see the player go

I'd be sad to see Evra go just as I was sad to see Gary Neville go. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be the right decision.

Both of those situations are completely different though. Evra is still a top class player, Neville was a shadow of his former self.

Yep, most definitely. If we have to sell him, now's probably the best time. Monaco being the buyer works great for us.

He's already mentioned that he thought of leaving previously, but the presence of Sir Alex convinced him to stay on with the club. At 32, he's at the end of the peak of his career if not already past it, even though he's still up there as one of the best left backs in the league. While I'll hate to see him leave, it might work out to be the best solution for all parties* involved if it means we get Baines in to replace Evra, as it'll give Moyes some support in the dressing room.

*Well not for Everton

I believe Evra as being a shadow of his former self. Obviously not to the extent that Gary Neville was in his final season, but very much an inferior player to the Evra of old regardless.

Oh. Yes I see what you mean but no player is bigger than the club. It should be at the club's discretion when to move players on and Moyes is in charge of the club now. If he feels Baines would be a big enough improvement then great. On the flip side it could easily be that Evra has decided that with Sir Alex moving on its time to do so himself. He doesnt have too many years left. Who knows?

A shame Evra hasn't been here long enough for a testimonial. He's been an influential figure in one of the most successful periods we've had, regardless of fluctuations in form over that period.

Most accept that if he leaves it's for the best as he has already started declining, that does not mean you cannot feel sorry that a player you loved watching is leaving. What are you a fecking robot?

I disagree Evra now is inferior to the Evra of old. Last season, he was very good, though I believe he was also very isolated, due to rarely employing a proper left winger who tracks back. He's often lambasted for being out position, but when Kagawa and Nani go running all over the pitch, then what is he meant to do?

I still think Evra's got at least 2 very good seasons in him.

I maintain that Baines isn't that much better than Evra. The difference isn't all that great and Evra still eclipses Baines in terms of aerial ability, dribbling and general link-up play.

And Evra had a very good season last year, I see some people are trying to down-play it in the Baines thread, but really, he was very good for us.

I can only think of 4 players who had a better season than Evra, and those are the following: Carrick, RVP, DDG and Rafael.

Easily one of my favorite players.

If it is true that he wants to leave because we are interested in signing Baines then I am sorry but as much as I love Parry but he can go.
He has had the LB spot to himself almost as long as he been here, yes we have had a few others in his time but none that really threatened his regular place in the side, even when half of us on here were dissapointed with his form before last season he knew his place was almost gauranteed.
Baines is different though and he knows he would have to compete for it, he wouldn't automatically be in the starting 11. So all of a sudden he has some competition potentially and he wants to leave, as much of a legend as he is this is a poor show from him.
I understand he wants to play every game possible but he plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world and has had things his own way for most of the time he's been here, most other players have competition for their place, why should he be any better? If he was as staunch united as some like to think he is surely he would see that it would only make us stronger.
Sorry paddy but if this is your stance on it then maybe it is time to move on.

Reports suggest he wanted to leave since around April or so, presumably before any bid for Baines this time around, so what you stated doesn't really make sense.

Of course if he wishes to leave, then I'll just be glad that Evra performed so well for us over the past 7 seasons or so and he can enjoy his next chapter in his life. He had that blip in form for about 2 seasons (10/11 and 11/12) where his lack of tracking back and being easily beaten was infuriating, but its hard to bear a grudge against him because of what he has represented during his time here.

There have also been reports suggesting he wants to leave because we have bid for Baines which is what I am referring to, so it makes perfect sense. I will presume you haven't seen any of them though.
I do not doubt his service to us for one second and my post wasn't intended to come across as any form of paddy bashing but if the reports I am referring to are correct then I stand by what I said.

He has asked to leave more than a few times, even admitting himself that Fergie was able to convince him to stay.

Now that hes gone its no suprise.
