He was fairly good all game apart from the stunning goal. He's also put in his best performances against Barcelona, you know that small team from Spain

Or need midfielders who can compete against Barcas.

Anyway with Moyes we will just kick it long to Fellaini, then lay it off to RVP

2-3 years ago when I started following Caf, Ekeke almost convinced me that we're going to sign Banega, although there wasn't any indicator whatsoever in the press that we are interested on him.

Of course, I signed him in Football Manager.

from the youtube video he looks a lot like Kagawa
Same position for Valencia but quite a lot different.

Kagawa will score lots of goals, Banega doesnt have that yet. Nowhere near as mobile either. On the other hand Banega has one of the best final balls you'll see and a lot longer range of passing so he'll tend to create more and he wins the ball more too.

So does he play further forward for Valencia now, Ekeke? I suppose Silva and Mata leaving has left space for him.

Could he still play deeper if we signed him?

Yep, spent most his career as a cm. creative box to box player originally

Yes he was a great CM when I used to watch Spanish football more regularly. Ekeke says he plays in the same position as Kagawa though so didn't know if his role has significantly changed since then?

Yes, he plays in the hole for Valencia now. As with Mata, when he was first moved there I disagreed with it but like Mata he's improved there. Still lots of improvements to make.

I cant see any reason why he wouldnt be able to play CM again in the future. Unlikely to be for us though

Still looks too good for Southampton when he's doing stuff like this opening goal against Inter today

Good hit, but Handanovic could have done better.
Agreed, deflected and not the purest of goals but still pretty good when the player is really a creative CM and shooting is never going to be his best skill. To pop up with a few of those on top can be a great bonus

Can we waste some time trying to sign him?
His performance against Barca when they were at the peak of their powers (Xavi anyways) is up there with any performance I have seen. He was begging to get on the ball constantly anywhere between the boxes, great touches, vision, movement and kept getting a toe in and nicking the ball.

If you told me Southampton would be bidding for him 2 or 3 years later I'd have laughed in your face.

His goal wasn't deflected, the one after it was.

How did the defender just whack Jonas across his neck after the 3rd goal?
Even more, its the Brazil defender who started arguing with Rafael after he made a mistake for his country. Would have loved to have seen Juan sent off, but I'll settle for his team being humiliated 4-0

For as much as i think he is just the Argentinian Anderson i would welcome him as a signing right about now.

Well he definitely isn't because Anderson has never consistantly produced in the final third like Banega has. However Banega has definitely had more off the field problems. He's also nowhere near as good a passer as Banega who had a season where he was the most creative player in the league outside of Barcelona and Madrid. Anderson is faster and that was arguably the best thing he had when he joined, speed

If Anderson played for Valencia he'd look just as good. Injuries and inconsistancy is his set back.

Obviously not. He's not a productive player. Never has been. Wouldnt suddenly look it for another team
Well one got a big money move to United whilst Benega gets linked to Southampton real top level productive.

Anderson "played Fabregas and Gerrard" off the park in his first season

I'd take 1 Fabregas or Gerrard over 5 Andersons

Anderson was very good in his first season he just never progressed unfortunately. His power, mobility and energy were a handful for Gerrard and Fabregas that season when we matched up with them. I doubt he is as good as Banega now. Both have not fulfilled the potential they have promised I would say, but I would say Banega has a better chance of reaching it now than Anderson.

I think it'll be a breakthrough season for Anderson. Next year we'll be talking about him differently.

I think he was joking.

The only thing he's breaking through is his jeans.

There are some rich feckers in this thread from hearing that one .

But I hope he does well every year. He's very likable and not a squad twat whos moaning for play time. I'm not going to turn around and tell everyone to feck off if he goes RvP and bangs in 30/30 for the season but I'd love to see him have a big impact and would certainly take pleasure in some people realizing that he has improved as a player.

Would probably get the usual caf cynical twat response 'OMG FINALLYYY' or something.
