Today? BF4 resolution comparisons, Xbox OS issues, Xbox online issues.

Tomorrow we get actual BF4 footage which should actually get us talking about games thankfully.
The article directly addresses the issue of sub-1080p launch titles though, so I don't see how that can be perceived as deflecting attention. The article represents a rather thorough examination of exactly the issue at hand - you're essentially accusing me of supposedly deflecting attention from an issue by posting a detailed and expert examination of it.

I posted it yesterday, yes, but not in full, and it's clear from many subsequent posts in this thread that it wasn't paid attention to, if it was ever read at all.

Digital Foundry have no association whatsoever with Microsoft.

No direct association, but they are quite obviously in league with Microsoft for a long time. Which other publications are allowed to dial in to board level discussions at Microsoft.

Kinect Sports Rivals is an Xbox One launch game after all - free ""Preseason"" trial announced

Microsoft's decision to delay Kinect Sports Rivals till spring 2014 caused a bit of a hullabaloo in July - with the possible exception of Fighter Within, it's the most compelling demonstration of what the new Kinect sensor can do. Good news, fist-shakers - one of the game's six sporting pastimes will release as a free digital ""Preseason"" trial alongside the Xbox One itself in North America, Europe and Australia.

The trial features wake racing, and supports both online and splitscreen multiplayer - the latter feature has to be unlocked by completing challenges, seemingly. Download it between 22nd November and 30th November, and you'll receive exclusive bonuses such as a "Founder" player title and a branded Kinect Sports Rivals wetsuit for your character.

You'll also be able to tap into the Kinect Sports Rivals Hub to participate in monthly challenges - solo, co-op and nation versus nation. Complete these to nab exclusive rewards that will carry over to the full version of Kinect Sports Rivals in the spring.

The trial will ship with a specially recorded all-new tune, Collide, by "rising musical group" Youngblood Hawke, as revealed by the goodly Major of Nelson. He and Xbox PR compatriot Graeme Boyd will appear in the game as multiplayer opponents.

It's not clear whether the trial Hub also supports the full game's Drivatar-esque ghost system. "You'll face off against other Champions from across the globe, either directly controlled by players or competing in their stead (using a playing style remembered by the game itself) while they're offline," reads a blurb for the latter. "Friends, rivals and other intelligently matched challengers line up to be taken on and taken down. Boosting your skill and fame leads to ever greater rewards and opportunities."

Besides wake racing, the final game will offer climbing, football, target shooting, bowling and tennis. Aoife got to grips with Kinect Sports Rivals at Gamescom, and considers it thoroughly worth a peek. Here's a video of her scrubbed-up digital double strutting its stuff. And here's our full list of Xbox One launch games.

------------------

Good news.. Of course, it still sucks that there is no Kinect based game on Xbox One at launch, but this is at least something - and the wake racing actually looks good.

These types of games usually give the impression of interactivity but in reality they are nothing more than on rails games with little require input from the user.

I'll never be convinced Kinect will be good for gaming, and in turn expect zero good Kinect games to be released. It, like all other motion control peripherals will go the same route as this current gen and become unnecessary and expensive additions that seldom get used.

Speak for yourself, mate. I'm gonna use the feck out of mine.

In reality what for? There are no games at release, any future games will be as I described in my last post. The integration with apps will be buggy and slow for a while, if not all the time. Even the video Alock posted on the last page makes it look shit and that's the official M$ advert for it. As a gimmick of controlling your console with your voice you might get a few weeks out of it before you become sick of it not recognising what you said and realising it is quicker to navigate with a controller.

There are probably more examples, but I know for a fact that both Battlefield 4 and Fifa 14 use Kinect at launch. The repeated accusation that there are no Kinect compatible games at launch is just nonsense.

Personally I'll use Kinect frequently to control my Xbox One in keeping with the overarching design of the machine. Your overtly negative hyperbole is rendered entirely meaningless when you stop to consider the fact that Microsoft have designed the XBO console to have full Kinect functionality within every feature. If Kinect didn't work, or worked in the retarded $ON¥ fanboy fashion which you've constructed to help yourself deal with it, then Microsoft wouldn't be persevering with it with such confidence.

It's somewhat amusing that the $ON¥ boys have been reduced to treating as gospel random tweets whilst in-depth technical analysis and renowned expert rebuttal repeatedly stifling their boastful inaccuracies is routinely ignored.

What's most amusing is your ability to soak up Microsoft orchestrated PR as gospel. You read that stuff and don't even understand a fecking word it says.

I mean real games, not shitty concept demos, where you'll have little interaction.

I doubt you'll use your Kinect for console navigation, but expect you to claim you use it all the time. There is nothing to warrant the amount of blind faith you're putting into Xbone, and Kinect specifically.

Not quite sure how you've established I'm a Sony fanboy seeing as I'm getting neither for the foreseeable. M$ have to perserve with all the BS, it's going to cost them otherwise. Once the reviewing censorship ends I expect some real scathing reports on the bone.

 the actual game will be there but controlled by that new fangled thing you hold, the fecking controller. Can you play either game in its entirety with the Kinect? No. The Kinect aspects will be nothing more than concept demos.

Most seem to be trying to warn off it as much as they can without breaking the embargo.

The fact M$ have imposed an embargo should be evidence enough they are not happy with the machine. With reports coming out today their online services are lacking in comparison to PSN, which seems to be one of the few wins the Xbone crew tried to claim, I'd be worried as a Xbone preorderer.

It's clear that your apparent expertise have entirely abandoned you in favour of outright $ON¥ loving, Weaste. I use the word 'apparent' quite wrongly btw since your expertise are anything but.

You come out with such obvious horseshit as "The XBO will be to the PS4 what the Wii U is to the XBO" and expect people to believe you know what you're talking about, all the while labeling any testament in opposition to your moronic tripe as PR bullshit?

I'm absolutely pissing myself laughing at you here, Weaste, you've outdone yourself!

The fact you can't even reply properly shows you know I'm right.

Seeing as you seem to be struggling with this I'll ask the question in a different way. What full playable games will be available at launch? Not some shitty afterthought that has been added to justify the inclusion of a unneeded peripheral.

Concept demos

You've already told me how much I'll use my own Kinect on my own XBO, so what's the point in my arguing with you? I can tell you that you're wrong, with full knowledge of that being the case since I am me and thus know what I intend to do infinitely better than some clown on the internet I've never heard of until five minutes ago, but what's the point?

Battlefield 4 and Fifa 14 both make use of Kinect in interesting and practical ways, and since I'm getting both on day one I'll say that the Kinect will prove as being very useful from launch wholly independent of the UI navigational aspects which I can tell you now I'll be using the feck out of.

Clown: "No you won't!"

FIFA with Kinect will probably be as inept and pointless as with PS Move. There's just no need for such gimmicks in it.

I'd certainly be considering cancelling at this stage, had I one on pre-order.

Cider won't cancel though because he's too intent on being original and going against the stream, he's going to be one of the two people on here who pick it up at launch.

What did the PS Move do?

Fifa with Kinect allows you to change formation and make substitutions with vocal commands so as to avoid lengthy pauses in the game whilst players fiddle around in menus. A very useful feature imo.

In Battlefield 4 the Kinect allows players to lean around corners by simply leaning slightly in the appropriate direction. It sounds like it would be a very natural and instinctive motion and an entirely valid and practical introduction to a game otherwise controled via a pad on which button functionality is limited.

Fighter Within is a full Kinect controlled XBO launch title btw. Kinect Sports Rivals Preseason is available at launch and D4 will be available shortly thereafter.

It allowed you to control movement in some silly manner. Pointless.

I would never change tactics with voice command anyway, I need to go into menus to check stats and player's suitability. Leaning seems pointless too, you wouldn't be able to move on your sofa because game might think you want to lean?

Those are to nuances btw, not full control in any way.

 Very true. You'd have to have an extra button like L1 to choose when "leaning" affected your character... and then you might as well use L1 and an analogue stick.

If you say so. Personally I'd use both features a lot.

I'm pretty sure I don't waver around on my sofa when gaming currently so the mis-lean problem wouldn't be an issue for me. I could definitely incorporate slight leaning as an intentional gameplay aspect though and believe it would enhance the experience as well as simplify the controls. If I did have to change position on the sofa and my character on-screen inadvertently leaned momentarily as a result I really don't think that would represent the end of the world.
