The last two wins are huge. Title is between them and City. Hard to know which will do it, although I edge to City.

Carbon copy of last season at Newcastle. Judge Arsenal in Februrary/March and see if they can get over that mental block they have with those months.

They need a better striker than Giroud but they are picking up points currently and that is what counts.

How many litmus tests are there?

Arsenal have proven that come end of the season, they will at least be in contention.
Of course, but it wasn't long ago that some thought this would be the season Arsenal would drop out of the top four and/or Spurs would overtake them.

They'll challenge, no doubt. But saying with they'll win it is a different matter.

I'm caught in two minds. On the one hand it's a huge win for Arsenal and fair play to them. On the other Newcastle were so poor that it's difficult to give Arsenal much credit for that. They weren't put under the cosh like they should have been against a decent side playing at home. Difficult to draw conclusions really. Newcastle played like Stoke on a collective hangover.

Say what you like about our scrappy wins recently but at least we had to dig deep and wake the feck up after the initial storm from our opponents. Arsenal could have played with nine men today.

They'll definitely be in contention. Their form isn't just an aberration. They've been this consistent over a calender year. There's no reason they'll suddenly stop playing well.

Newcastle worked very hard to stop Arsenal playing but other than a couple of moments didn't really look like scoring themselves. They've gone to Newcastle who are in great form and won 1-0. I don't think they'll win the title because of that run of games in February, unless Wenger brings in a couple of players. Good players.

Newcastle created feck all. I'm sorry but you got to expect more from a decent side in great form. They didn't take the game to Arsenal - that's my only issue.

This is the sort of win we had come accustommed to under Fergie. Doing just enough to get the points without playing well. It's an important win for Arsenal.

They were all over them at the end and for some reason decided not to attack the ball in the six yard box. Also Ben Arfa showed himself up as the player he really is. Bags of talent but a complete moron.

They look like they'll stay up there especially if they can get Ozil back into any form but to get all the way over the finish line they'll need more up front, is my unoriginal insight.

Szczęsny could have been responsible for them conceding again today, if it continues it will likely begin to affect their results in the same way that Hart's errors did for City earlier on in the season.

Considering our two best players this season in Ramsey and Ozil (harsh on Mert) were absent, and we were playing away to a team in top form, it was a big win.

He's been brilliant this season, though he had two hairy moments against West Ham, and that clearance today too was a shocker... What the hell was he thinking?

But shows that they are more consistent than many on the caf seem to acknowledge.
They have been good, no doubt, with Mertesacker holding the defense together and Ramsey/Giroud firing them at the start, and now grinding out results. But I think its well known that they have been massively helped by managerial changes around them, which helped them maintain that "consistency".

PS: I am not at all berating them, or whatever, before anyone jumps on me!

Hopefully we finish the season as strongly as we have been these last two seasons. It's a different situation entirely mind you, and a different kind of pressure.

Definitely. And it should give the players a lift.

You're in it along with the two oil clubs imo. There seems to be a slight gap now, a break-away group almost. Arsenal, City, Chelsea. I'd have City and Chelsea finishing above you, due to sheer squad strength, but hope I'm wrong.

I just don't think they can possibly sustain it. Wouldn't be surprised if the oils pulled away and Arsenal ended up scrapping for top four with the rest of us.

In The Game podcast today Marcotti did a theatrical cough when talking about Ozil's shoulder injury and said "His shoulder injury. Because that's what it is. Nothing else." Does anyone know what he was alluding to?

Still sticking to my opinion that Arsenal are a convincing shout for the title and that the way they're being regarded as an inevitable spring drop-out by most of the media is ridiculous.

Although it's possible that I come into this thread and say that every now and then mostly to get horrible images of City lifting the trophy out of my head.

Few injury problem arising for Wenger now, will be interesting to see how they come through this period.

I was under the impression that Wenger was resting Ozil, as he's not used to playing this many games at this stage of the year.

Walcott's a big blow. Such a productive player who has arguably been Arsenal's best attacking player this month.

Ridiculous number of injuries in such a short space of time.

People are coming up with their own theory that his pre-season was geared towards a winter break so people reckon we're resting him but the club and player are saying he has a shoulder problem. I wouldn't disagree with him getting a break because I know pre-season training in this country is very different to others, the work you do there is meant to be the foundation for your whole season fitness wise.
