Steven Gerrard

We're not talking about Gerrard in his pomp, we're talking about Gerrard this season - or, at least, that's my impression. Neither Mata nor Cazorla can hold a patch to Gerrard this season - they were probably both better last season, but that gets us to "class is permanent, form is temporary" doesn't it?

Cunto's post read like he was.

Yeah, he's holding them back atm, but they have to look for a midfielder who suits their game who can instantly step into his shoes and deliver. If the player can't do that then the manager will find it really difficult to explain the decision to leave him out. Judging by the direction that their manager is taking the team to, stevie g isn't going to help much.

Unfair on both. Cazola struggled from injuries early on is still getting to peak condition while Mata is stuck with a manager who simply doesn't rate him.

They were vastly superior last season (in comparison to Gerrard). Cazorla is yet to reach full-fitness this season.

Anyhow Gerrard was a beast in his pomp, one of my very favorites.

Gerrard was outstanding last year. Caf favourite Gary Neville even had him in his TOTY.

Stevie isn't holding us back. I've said it before, he's ridiculously talented and still offers us a tonne.

Liverpool win one game without Gerrard and people say that he's past it and they're better off without him.

The guy's not as match changing as he used to be. He's still easily good enough to be there.

Has Gerrard scored all of his goals in the league from the penalty spot this season? I can't think of goal he's scored from open play.

He's scored a couple of free kicks and one from open play I think.

He's given a big "feck you" to all those that said he was past it this season.

Thanks. The free kick was against Hull, right? Checked the stats and apparently, most of his goals have come from the penalty spot. This isn't a criticism of his play, I was genuinely curious.

I know it wasn't, the latter comment wasn't directed at you. He scored two free kicks, one was against Hull the other was against Sunderland. He's scored once from open play too.

keep looking smug Gerrard, as it'll only hurt more when city win it.

Yeah, scoring a sh!Tload of penalties does that

Anyone else taken 10 penalties this season?
From OptaJoe - Steven Gerrard has now scored 10 penalties in the PL this season, only Andrew Johnson (11 in 2004-05) has ever hit more.

Gerrard, in his prime, was a tour de force. A talent so good that many would have had him at Old Trafford in a heartbeat, which is saying something as we often scoff at the talents over at Anfield. I also think the notion that he couldn't play in a midfield two is quite pretentious and utterly bizarre. He fecked us over many times from that central midfield role and made our deficiencies in that area of the field all the more palpable. Gerrard proved last summer at the Euros that he's still a top-class player capable of producing on the big stage when he practically carried a pretty ordinary England side out of their group.

I join in with the "kisses the badge on his chest" chant with gusto whenever we play that shower, but I'm also a lover of football, and to me, Gerrard embodies football as much as Scholes or Giggs do. An altogether fabulous footballer who definitely deserved more honours but will rightfully go down in Anfield folklore anyway.

I must have been drunk when I wrote this back in August.

I don't want him winning the league title. No way.

His long passing is nearly as accurate as Scholes.

Come on, that is a ridiculous statement and you surely know it? Gerrard is a fine footballer, but that is so blinkered an opinion it's disappointing.

Scholes was the master of long range passing, Gerrard has been famed for his inconsistent long range passes, when they come off they are great, but they often don't or didn't. He is closer to Rooney in the category of long range passers. Than the Pirlo and Scholes echelon.

He is though, the whole famed for inconsistent long passes doesn't register with me. No one hits 100% of their long passes, not Scholes, not Pirlo or Alonso. If you play these type of passes, you have to know in your mind that the chance of failure is much higher, thats why the likes of Alonso and Pirlo who are fond of long passes, rarely attain the passing accuracy of the likes of Xavi and co.

And he is far away from Rooney with his long passing, because he can actually penetrate defences from 50, 60 yards rather than just pass it to the winger, he has more variety with it as well.

I think your statement comparing him to Rooney is more ridiculous than mine.

I could post several examples of him doing something like that.
