Steven Gerrard

Never hated Gerrard too much but really seeing what a twat he actually is. Having a great season, no doubt and has always been a great player but showing what a wanker he is.

Who would you call the best long passer of the ball in football history, out of curiosity?

Gerrard is a fine midfielder, I just dislike him as a person and for what he's done to the England team. But he doesn't pick himself to start in a midfield 2, does he.

A few in modern history Koeman, Pirlo, Veron, Becks, Brady, Ruud G , Hagi to name just a few

Italy is my national team, been supporting them since 1990. I wouldn't say that Pirlo is a better long passer than Scholes.

I've never seen anyone else who could hit a ball 50 yards onto the toe of a winger running at full pelt, flying a few inches over the defender's attempted header 99 out of 100 times.

Becks I did see once live and his long passing was stunning, but no one on the Galaxy could watch it onto their foot. He's before my time though, United wise.

Don't wanna pick 1 as the best? I can sympathize.

What did he do to provoke this?
Just the way he comes across as if he is used to winning titles and knows the feeling.

Again, this is me being a United fan, I'm sure he is a great guy but of course any Liverpool player with a smile on their face is going to piss me off, the same goes for Liverpool fans when our players do well.

Looking for something to make me feel better :(

If he wins a prem medal he have it take off him for being into Phil Collins and for twatting a Southport DJ for not playing his CD.

Haven't seen too much of Liverpool this season but I thought Gerrard controlled things pretty well yesterday, albeit against West Ham. He has certainly improved in that deep role compared to a few seasons ago.

Still immensely dislike him more than anyone in the league. He is probably joint holder of that title along with Suarez, Terry and Cole.

A legend that deserves the utmost respect from me.
If anyone here were to bother watching his interviews they'd see an intelligent, honest, modest and humorous man who has Liverpool FC running through his veins. No wonder 'Pool fans love him and United fans hate him.

He's a fantastic player, a real Liverpool legend. I always find it respectable when the players who start and finish their careers at the same club.

I just want to crush him mentally when I see the excited look on his face in every interview lately. I can see it in his eyes he thinks they are winning this, so I just want his dream destroyed. After he retires I want him to be forever known as the best player never to win it.

At this stage of his career, he is picked because he is a great influence on the side, a penalty taker and someone who occasionally lands 1/10 hollywood passes that quite a few midfielders could do if they were playing in that position with all the time in the world to pick the pass. If he was injured then they'd have nobody to take their customary average of 2 pens a match so would obviously struggle.

I seriously wonder if you've ever watched a Liverpool match this season. If you had you'd know those comments are so far from reality that they belong in a Roald Dahl book of fairy tales.

It's taken straight from the "Sterling is another Lennon" book of football analysis.

He has been brilliant in that role since the new year, still a top player.

He's a penalty taker.

He has scored 11 pens this season and still missed a couple an amazing stat. But with S&S hitting the floor more than Travolta in a 80s bar that's not overly surprising.

Better than average footballer ... Have we really become this bitter?
Its crazy Bebe, isn't it? One season of relative difficulty and a big segment of our fans are behaving like spoilt kids, bitter as fcuk as if we hadn't won a pot in 20 years or something. Flying airplanes with banners, getting worked up about refereeing decisions, and slagging off everyone else's players, who you know if they were in our our team we would idolise.
Its a bit embarrassing, and stupidly, I didn't expect it, but should have done.

That's absolute madness.

Not for me, i would never say its madness for a United fan to pick Scholes Keane or Robson over Gerrard.

Why is it madness for me as a Liverpool fan to say the opposite?

All three of them are outstanding footballers that have shone at the very highest level, some people make Gerrard seem like Barton on here.

Gerrard is clearly a great player.

Scholes and Keane were better. IMO.
Good post, giving kudos to a player worthy of it and offering an opinion on players you think were better.
Personally I think they were 1a,b,and c, and you could build a team around any and all of them. Personally I like Scholes for his quality and versatility. Keane was a born winner, who could pick the entire team up and put it on his back and Gerrard for his "cometh the hour, cometh the man" dedication to a club that let him down year after year, in terms of getting in the quality to move to the net step.

But I will always be a Roy Keane man.

You're never going to get a United fan say how great Gerrard was once/is, especially not until he's got his dirty scouse hands on Frogie's trophy...which I hope ends up in big Vinny's hands now because well it's the lesser of two evils and he has a large forehead.

You're never going to get a Liverpool fan admit Scholes was probably only second to Zidane in that generation of players. In the scousest voice possible - but but but heeeeeee doesn't 'av the goals and assists of Steeeeeevie geeee la', how can heeeeeee beeeeeeee a better player like?

I can give you Scholes but even then I think you are wrong.

However Keane is the most complete midfielder to play in the league in the last 20 odd years.

You are more than welcome to pick Gerrard over the other two. I am talking about who is the better player. Gerrard Vs Scholes can be debated endlessly. Gerrard Vs Keane is a non contest. I'd even have Vieira over Gerrard.

I think Scholes ranks up right there with Keane Viera and any midfielder of the last decade, so if you can compare him to Gerrard as you say, i don't see why you can't compare Gerrard to Keane.

Its interesting because i've seen a few older posters say that will still take Robson over Scholes and Keane, a Robson who despite his incredible ability, wasn't as successful as he could of been both domestically and in Europe. I think there is some parallels with Gerrard there, both suffered from playing with teams that weren't up to their quality but that shouldn't be used to knock their ability.

Also worth noting that many Liverpool fans would rank Gerrard above Souness, and i don't think anybody who grew up in that era including United fans would say Keane vs Souness is a non contest.
