Bosnian star to join Old Trafford side this summer…

Read more Manchester United transfer news.

Manchester United have launched an official transfer bid for Schalke’s left-back Sead Kolasinac, reports Bosnian publication Reprezentacija.

The Red Devils badly need a new left-back, because stalwart Frenchman Patrice Evra’s contract is expiring in the summer, and has no plans to extend his deal.

It had been rumoured that United were close to securing a mammoth £30m deal for Southampton wonderkid Luke Shaw, but this latest story pours doubts on the potential signing.

Kolasinac is 20-years-old, and has enjoyed a good season in the Bundesliga. He’s made 19 starts, and impressed everyone with his strong tackling and ability to step up and intercept opposition possession.

The report claims Kolasinac would cost United around £5m, which seems very reasonable for a talented youngster who’s already holding down a regular spot in one of Europe’s biggest leagues.

Only seen him a little bit in the Champions league. Would be a good signing at that price, imo. Talented young player, hard as nails, who can cover a few positions and push for a first team place in future.

It was only a bosnian source that put this (hardly anything concrete...). He's a very good young player, physically a beast, really strong and fast. Good defensively but still only 20 years old, not ready yet for United (not sure if he has it in him to get to that level, remains to be seen). Becoming Schalke's first choice left back at the age of 20 is certainly impressive though, he's been playing in the champions league since last year and had an impressive game against Drogba I remember.

Mainly a left back, can play in the middle and defensive midfield as well. Starts for the national team already, though he's only got a few caps because he only recently got his papers to play for the national team. Guaranteed starter in the world cup though.

Sounds promising. It's good to see such a young player targeted with all the focus on immediate needs. Long term thinking here.

Surprising official bid - reports Bosnian publication Reprezentacija.

I wouldn't rule it out, but I love United-based stories at the moment. Titles are so misleading.

If this ones true and so many sources saying Shaw is almost a done deal, looks like its curtains for Buttner then.

If we get this kid its good he can play centre back also, no doubt he would be needed there at some point when we have our annual defensive injury crisis.

It would be great if we could pull off a couple of signings like this (providing he's of the required standard) and sort a couple of positions without paying massive fees. It would hopefully allow us to mount serious bids on the players we badly need in key positions.

We need some shrewd signings to get our squad back on track like we managed in 2004-2006 when we did some good deals on players like Heinze, VDS, Park, Evra, Vidic.

Any regular Bundesliga watchers know much about him?

Big Left Back talent, which is not surprising giving the quality of Schalke´s youth academy (top of the nation IMO). Had a solid season as starter for them. There is no talk in Germany about an interest by United, though and the boy has contract until 2017 with no known release clause. Would be surprised to see Schalke letting him go for little money, especially with so little affordable LB talent on the market.

"Official" bid yet no one from Germany or England is reporting it. Seems legit.

Like I said, only a random bosnian site, hardly very reputable. No chance that a bosnian paper would pick up United related news before all the sources here, and nobody else go with it.

Fixed

Why is no one asking the obvious?

Why the feck are united signing players without a manager for the summer secured yet?

I don't really get why we'd sign a player before we have a manager - unless of course we do have a provisional 'yes' from one of our main targets behind the scenes. However, I doubt it would have all come about so quickly.

The only reason I'd want us to sign a player like him is if Buttner and Evra are both definitely leaving (and we're signing Shaw/Coentrao as well).

So that's Luke Shaw, this fella and Fabio Coentrao.. not to mention this apparent extension Paddy might be getting all fighting for the left back spot next season.

I like the reviews I've heard about him.

And for £5million, sounds like a potentially good signing.

I think this points to Evra and Buttner both leaving, with us signing only one of Shaw/Coentrao.

Ed Woodward probably felt Fellaini was a waste of money so he wants to show the club how it's done. Leading by example etc.

Why are people so surprised that it is reported initially from a Bosnian source? The guy is the Bosnian so they may know something we don't.
Didn't we have a thread earlier about a Serbian newspaper stating that we're about to sign someone or someTHING from Serbia? :D

We've signed no one so far, it's only rumours and speculation.

But if you think we've already signed players, how do you know we haven't also secured a manager?

Signing a left back is a must with or without a manger.

You've got no one working on these deals properly qualified to determine their sporting value.

If you're going down this route, a Director of Football should be making these calls. Not a CEO.

Scouts should know a thing or two about a player's "sporting value".

Official bid, yet no official sources are reporting it?

Erm we have scouts. Scouts usually suggest to a club how much a player should cost.

Don't you play FM ffs.

Can somebody change the thread title?. This clearly isn't an "official" bid so it's quite misleading.

Any of them going to hold themselves accountable for those decisions then?

It's a mess of a setup.
A mess because you're believing some source called fanatix? We haven't signed anybody.

There's been plenty of links to other players trickling out from well connected journos to suggest United aren't sitting on their hands without a manager.

If anything, it looks more like Moyes' departure has invigorated Woodward's transfer zeal.

Is he Schalke's first choice or just starting games due to an injury to Fuchs?

If we sign anyone it will be under the jurisdiction of a manager. That is how we operate. So if we sign players van Gaal (or someone else) will be laying the groundwork or agreeing to suggestions we've offered up re targets we were close to. We won't just go signing players with no plan or direction.
We get linked to what seems like hundreds of players every single window. Don't believe all the baseless conjecture.

We have to have at least three United stories in the paper every day. Who cares if they have no manager. Just make some up.

Would be delighted if this means Shaw can feck off.

He has successfully displaced Fuchs. Rightly so. He's a good leader and quite ambitious for his age. For Schalke's and his own sake I hope he stays.

Who is deciding on putting this bid out if it is true. If we have made a bid, clearly the board are starting to make decisions on who we sign, which I don't think is a good thing. We should be locking in a new manager before we start signing players. Only thing that would make sense is if we have already sorted out the next manager unofficially, but are waiting until the end of the season for them to finish up with their current club or something like that.

If Evra leaves we might need two left backs so if the price is under 10m it'd be a great deal. Kolasinac is a big talent but not good enough to be a starter for us at this point. Very solid defensively from what I've seen but can't put a decent cross to save his life.

I still feel crossing is one of Evras weaknesses to this day.

Is there a special course for this or something?
