Van Gaal's authority, planning from the youngest department and push for attacking football plus Giggsy's unending legend and wonderful character would be some combo that could benefit the manager after Dutchman's reign.

In the end we may still be surprised of a choice but at least so far we're choosing between United spirit of 92' and experienced builder who achieved things in many different places in Europe.

Future's not looking bad and there's no randomness in all these speculations like it was a year ago.

If it is indeed to be confirmed as Van Gaal then I hope Holland have a quick exit from the World Cup.

Is any credible paper reporting it yet? The Express and The Mirror are probably just copying De Telegraaf's story.

I hope they do somewhat well though, at least leave their group. Want the world to see that when he comes here, he'll be quick to impress.

All it takes is one text message to Woodward with some names to arrive and go.

He'll probably may be our best scout ever in the Dutch camp throughout the Cup.

On all tomorrow's back pages that he's got the job. They all mention Giggs is staying on as a coach as well.
That's the one! I was just being a bit sarcastic, but he's worked with Van Gaal before and certainly likes to express his views on matters coaching.

He is backing Van Gaal further down in this article too: http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27123670

He comes across as a bit of a mouth here (although I find myself agreeing with him a lot): http://thebusbyway.com/2014/03/28/yet-another-scathing-attack-on-prehistoric-nitwit-moyes/

The Arsenal link: http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2014/04/22/mertesacker-the-new-verheijen-per-bemoans-injury-crisis/

Could be interesting to see what happens there. Patrick Kluivert has also said he would follow Van Gaal to United if he is asked, so I'm just wondering what about this as a team?

Manager: Van Gaal.
Assistants: Kluivert and Giggs.
Coaches: Verheijen, Scholes, Butt. Maybe P. Neville too, but how many coaches do we need?
Nobody takes Verheijen really seriously, would be ridiculous appointing him at United given his credentials, misplaced judgements and the fact that we have what, five(!) sport scientists on a full time basis already at Carrington since 2006 or something? Or did Moyes get rid of them, I never checked that, but I assume not.

If van Gaal orders it, it will happen. :) van Gaal has his way to make things go the way he likes.

Can we hurry up and get this wrapped up. Getting a bit scared with the rumours of giving Giggs the job permanently..
I want it done ASAP simply because Giggs and the team will finish very strongly and this will help Ferguson in his attempts to get the class of 92 led by Ryan Giggs to takeover.

Even though there is 0.1% chance of Beckham returning, Ferguson will find a way to convince him just so he can then convince the Glazers that they will financially benefit from Brand Beckham.

I mean, imagine the reputation of United and the brand if they are successful with the class of 92. There will be movies all over the world!

The class of 92 and their 442! Louis van Gaal is a strategist and he's probably identified how problematic the influence of Ferguson and his Fledglings will be. I wouldn't be surprised if he is the one leaking the stories about Roy Keane to plant the seed and get Keane thinking. He'll recruit him to keep the 92 and Ferguson from causing problems, I doubt they will oppose van Gaal's ball circulation philosophy with Roy Keane about.

Roy doesn't care about tradition, he will do whatever works to win. Roy isn't the sentimental kind of guy, he would ban Ferguson from Old Trafford if he interfered with their goals. And Roy doesn't think he should be praised for covering every blade of grass, this is what he expects and it's what Louis van Gaal also expects. Like Louis van Gaal he will ensure the players sacrifice themselves for the good of the team but if they don't he will sacrifice them.

I know it could feck up our transfers but I would quite like a World Cup winner as our coach. Also image the momentum coming into the start of the season if Van Gaal and RVP had just won the World Cup

Yep, but it is unlikely. Van Gaal really likes sports science and all, so I think he is going to be impressed with Carrington. Also Verheijen was availabe but Van Gaal did not take him on his current with the Dutch National squad. He's not a prophet or a pioneer or something, everybody at the top clubs in Europe know what Verheijen preaches.

I will shit myself on a daily basis for a month straight and not wash if that happens. We have no chance, might not even make it to the second round :(

I wouldn't want that verheijen arsehole anywhere near the club.
I don't know much about him other than the fact he's certainly been talking a lot this year.

I didn't even know who he was until he layed into Moyes at the start of the season.

He does come across as someone trying to bring attention to himself and who likes to blow his own trumpet.

There will be all kinds of post mortem of each and every Holland game here in that case and discussion on whether Van Gaal is right choice or not will get really tedious. I hope they progress till around quarters (which will be what, early July?) or so and then bow out ;)

Good news. The best advantage of retaining Giggs-Scholes for short term will be, they will tell Van Gaal more about likes of Lingard-Powell-Wilson-Keane twins etc and he can then decide on who is good enough to make the cut. If there is no connection with past structure, Van Gaal and his team might take time getting acquainted with academy/reserve players at United.

The rumored contract being offered to van Gaal is that of 3 years. What's to say it won't be extended if he's successful? It's not like he's 70! He could end up being here for 6 or more years and retires as a Manchester United manager.

The true north.
If I'm not mistaken, van Gaal is credited with kick starting Bayern's golden era of today right?
By some, not so much by others. I think a fair consensus would say he played a significant role but there were other equally decisive factors. Look up some of the Bundesliga poster's thoughts in this thread, I know there have been some good summaries but I don't have time to search them out right now.

If they can make it to the quarters they can make it all the way , since they have to beat Spain and Brazil to reach the quarters .

I don't think they'll make it too far. Chile and Spain in their group will be difficult, and if they do go through, it'll probably be second and they'll get someone very difficult. I'm not sure about the Dutch lads on here, but all the ones I know are in the same sort of boat as us England fans; not expecting too much but would be happy with a decent run.

Wonder when this'll be announced. Sunday seems unlikely. I'd bet before the NYSE opens, so any time before 2pm our time?

Good point although in that scenario they can meet Spain again later and there will be Germany, Argentina coming from other half. You never know. Anyway, no point wondering about it too much right now.

I personally don't think he'll be announced before the end of the World Cup. It's just not professional to announce something like this when he's still got a massive job to do for Holland.

It shouldn't matter, the players already know he's finishing up with Holland after the world cup.

I'm growing slightly concerned by the Giggs love-in at the moment... Given our propensity to make silly decisions this past year or so, I'm scared our board won't see past the sentimentality of appointing him full time manager and rejecting LvG in the process.

Read somewhere that Dutch FA are OK provided all formalities are completed before May 7th when he is supposed to be back from holiday and start on his WC task by announcing first list of squad.

The speculation would be ridiculous and unsettling for us though and the stock exchange and all that bollocks, we can't leave it until July. We will definitely announce it before the WC. Everyone in Holland knows he's leaving them anyway so saying he's coming here won't make too much of a difference to them.

Does anybody know anything about Kluivert's coaching credentials? He's always come across as a bit thick to me but if van Gaal has him assist him in a second job, obviously he must see something in him.
