BBC said:
Leicester City: Billionaire owner 'will spend £180m' to make top five
Newly-promoted Leicester City's owner wants a top-five finish in the Premier League within three years - and will spend the money needed to get there.

The Championship title winners have returned to the top flight after a decade-long absence.

Billionaire Thai chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha outlined the club's next steps to reporters in Bangkok.

He said: "It will take a huge amount of money, possibly 10bn Thai Baht (£180m), to get there. That doesn't put us off."

Srivaddhanaprabha added: "I am asking for three years, and we'll be there.

"We won't take the huge leap to challenge the league's top five clubs immediately.

After all the talk about clubs being artificially inflated by rich owners, we might finally get to see a genuine case of a team propelled from nowhere to the very top. What are people's thoughts, are Leicester really going to end up challenging for Europe or even Top 4 in a few years? I'm struggling to find a reason why it wouldn't be possible if their owner is really serious about putting in the huge sums.

Where the goals come from.
Nah, they're the next QPR, heard it all before. When Fulham came up, al Fayed was going to make them the "Manchester United of the South". £180m? Sorry, that's peanuts these days.

They will end up will all types of mercenary players, a bit like QPR and early Man City to an extent. Its takes a lot more than £180m over a few years to get into the top 4.
On top they better make sure they have a damn good manager, and the balls to stick with the plan when things go tits up and one point, which will likely happen.

Now Accepting Positive Reps.
QPR and Spurs have spent plenty with little to no success and I don't expect this to be any different. As a neutral though, i welcome the investment and look forward to seeing what will happen.

Think we can get 15mil for Young??
Well I'm pretty sure they could do with an experienced highly rated English winger, amazingly gifted tireless Brazilian in the midfield and a Portuguese trickster winger who's got bags of potential and skill who, on his day, shits on Ronaldo. The latter two are Champions League winners. What a player to have!

Red Yankee is human scum.
180mil wont get them into the top 5.
I think he is talking about £180m from his own pocket. Don't really know Leicester's financial situation but promotion to the premier league and if they manage to survive will give them extra cash to build a team.

The question is will they go in all out muppet mode like QPR or will do it systematically under a good management team. From the snippets above it doesn't sound like he is in a hurry. Tough ask, anyway.

Even if the entire 180mil comes from his own pocket and whatever they make is added to the transfer budget, they still cant get to the top 5 anytime soon. If they plan to get there quick, it'l make it even worse.

Like Southampton have shown working on grassroot level is where the money should be spent rather than splashing out on expensive players. Try to build a sustainable model rather than chasing after glory and then being left with a massive bill to pick up.

Leicester's wage bill at the last published accounts was £27M a year. City's is currently £233M a year.

Good luck guys.

Exactly what I was thinking. We need these Billy Big Balls chairmans to come out and take our deadwood. Young, Fellaini, Cleverley, Nani. We could get good money from these from lower teams desperate to spend.

It could if they spend it wisely. City wasted a lot of money on dross early on.
That's what though, if they buy in haste early on, they'l overpay for dross. The top players or even the 2nd tier of players arent going to go there for normal wages.

If he actually wants to make them a force, young talent is the way to go. 180mil isnt enough to buy a 1st team capable of getting anywhere close to 5th place when you're Leicester City.

Someone should invest 180 million in Leicester itself, first.

No chance. 180m won't even take them near the top.

How much did Liverpool spend? Get the right manager and you can get 5th with that kind of money. Southampton with a good one have done well this season and if they were to invest 70-80m without losing any players, you would back them to compete for a top 6 position.
Of course you would need to pluck out some good young ones from championship and get veterans like Cole on free by offering good salary.

I have nothing against investment. RB Leipzig is getting much hate in Germany cause they push through the leagues. But if you built something for the region, the city then why not? East Germany still has no great football infrastructure and RB helps on that part. Hoffenheim is another example where one of the richest men around invests time and money to bring a club through 5 or 6 divisions into the Bundesliga to create a football buzz which wasnt seen in that region.
BUT what I hate is the need of show off. Look at me; I have money and I built me fame fast because I can. Look at my 25 year old girlfriend. I despise that.
And so Im not sure what to make of such a statement. Why not give you time. Top 5? Beating one of Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea,Arsenal and United? What about Spurs and Everton?
The PL really needs to get their house in oder or some day it will end like 2008 at Wall Street and the rich overplayed their cards. Look at Anzhi. You never know how long owners care. Can care.
In times of FFP the English clubs should realize that the party is over(from 2003 on).
If they do no the headache could become BIG.

Same here and I'm actually Indian.
It's like when my Aussie relatives came over here to Scotland and asked me how to pronounce the village of Tighnabruaich or the mountain of Stob na Boine Druim-fhinn. I just shrugged and carried on drinking my beer.

Leicester have just got promoted. I have no clue about their squad but unless they are special, it'd be a team that'l be good enough only to fight a relegation battle this year. Getting anywhere close to the top 5 with the league as competitive as it is now is a huge ask. Even if they get a top manager, its a project that'l take atleast 3 odd years and that if they spend the money wisely. Going after any of the top talents will be a problem as the wage they'd have to pay would be insane.

If they do have bi plans, what they first need is a manager with good ideas on how to play. Then, they're better off shopping in the young talent bracket and getting players that suit the system and give the guy time. The problem with all of that is that its incredibly risky to do so in the 1st year up in the prem and the tendency will always be to find short term fixes to stay up.
