Er because the season is over and they've basically got nothing to fill the airtime on the channel.
That happens every summer. They never fill it with random International matches purely on the basis that a couple of United players will play in it. It's normally repeats, old United games and goal compilations.

They had a Northern Ireland game on recently and a Galatasaray match. Clearly they've decided that airing football matches that they can probably get for pretty cheap which have a vague link to United is a good way to fill their schedule.

And these are very very useful help Van Gaal needs. To be coming to an English club and to just spend spend spend like Chelsea and City and win medals would be easy. But we are United and we don't provide a platform to spend endlessly to get our players in order to succeed. The management of our club will be different from Chelsea and City because we don't have bottomless pocket and it's also not our way of doing things. If Van Gaal wants to have a breakthrough in his career, he has to learn how to make use of what we have while improving on what we don't.
£696 million shelled out in interest payments by the Florida parasites. We had a very deep pocket 'til they arrived.

Just watched the extended highlights from today's game, beautiful goal from RvP. One of the main advantages of appointing van Gaal is that he knows how to "handle" him. It seems that Robin trusts him and he's happy playing for him. Van Gaal's teams are known for depending mostly on their ability to score many goals to win matches and if he can manage to get 40 goals from both RvP and Rooney, it's almost certain we'll have a good season.

Another thing worth mentioning is the assist for the goal ala Scholes from Jordy Clasie, absolute class. Right now there are 4 young players in this Holland squad who have great potential. Clasie (22) had a very good season at Feyenord and so did de Vrij (22). Veltman (22) and Blind (24) from Ajax are the other two. It would be nice if van Gaal could bring two of them with him at OT.

Fair enough, but that's 3 over the last year or whatever. It's not something they seem to regularly do. There are lots of friendlies with United players involved, why only choose this one?

It looks an obvious nod to Van Gaal to me. "Check out our new manager manage".

Do you just ignore facts?

It's incredible. We routinely break our transfer spending records now and you just pretend none of it happens.

Yeah, I reckon all the Van Gaal rumours probably did play a part but I don't think the people at MUTV know anything more than the fact that it's strongly rumoured.

You don't reckon they're told what to put on? I wouldn't be sure, they regularly toe the party line. I'd say those involved in scheduling are given agendas to work to.

MUTV knows what's going down. United will want to have something on video of van Gaal to show when the announcement is made

"Here's an exclusive chat with our new manager...." etc

Pretty much. Rooney had to bust United's balls in the recent contract negotiation in order to be afforded some insight into the wider strategic manoeuvrings of the club so I'd be extremely shocked if anyone at MUTV is being briefed on who the next manager will be.

Still trying to work out the answer to that question Plugsy? I've never known anyone as quick to defend the Glazers as you.

It's because people like you just ignore reality. We consistently break our own transfer spend records and yet people like you immediately still come out with "we have no money" cack, then when called out on it ask why people "defend the Glazers".

Are you a Glazer defender if you refuse to ignore reality?

Why? They're an in house TV production company, they'll be told to schedule things that need broadcasting. Take the Mata deal for example. The camera crew and presenters didn't just happen upon that Helipad by fortune. They'll be told what agendas to run with, what to show and where and when to schedule certain things. They'll know to keep space open for interviews or press conferences with Van Gaal before it's been announced to us, the wider public. They'll probably break the news there first.

But we don't drill on that! It's not like you can so anything but as supporter we have to be grateful what we have now and what success the club has enjoyed through these years.

I think you have a point with the camera crews and presenter possibly getting a heads up the day before but I don't think they have any input in the scheduling or choosing of shows. Why would they even care if we show this friendly or not?

Have you ever seen the MUTV schedule? Apart from on a match day nothing MUTV show can't be binned at any moment to be replaced by some breaking news interview. The vast majority of the shows are repeats and even when they're not it's nothing that can't just be shifted to a later date.

Yeah, I have it. That's why I said they rarely show random international matches just because United have a Dutch player and an Ecuadorian.

You mention breaking news interviews being able to be thrown in at any time, fair enough, but who films it? Who sets it all up? Who asks the questions and presents the show? These things need planning. Van Gaal won't just pitch up at MUTV, grab a mic and talk into a running camera. Certain people at MUTV will know if something has been agreed, if they need to know for scheduling purposes.

What reason do they have for showing that match tonight, other than showing our new manager at work? RVP happened to be playing? Why not another friendly a United player was playing in?

Don't know if it would be a good idea to bring one of those four in. Blind was voted Best Player of the Dutch league and he's nowhere near the level we require.

The three young players with most potential in tonights squad would be Depay, Bruno Martins Indi and Janmaat. Indi and Janmaat are the two young players Van Gaal seemed to like the most during the qualifiers and they're available on the cheap, perhaps suited as back-up options for us. But if they have a bad World Cup I doubt Van Gaal will take the risk.

Is it me or was Van Gaal quite annoyed in his post conference today when he was interview by Hans?

You're from Ireland but you saw the post match interview and know Hans? Very interesting.

And yes, van Gaal was not pleased at all with the performance of today. Do you speak Dutch/was it translated? It became pretty hilarious when Hans asked about Sneijder.

Yeah, I'll concede there most probably are a few of the staff at MUTV who do know a bit ahead of time about a player or manager arrival but I don't think there would be any need to let the schedulers know so they can schedule something easily binnable as every show on MUTV fits that bill. Two United players were always likely to be playing in the match and the man rumoured to be our manager was involved as well. That's more than enough reason for them to show it without having 100% confirmation Van Gaal is the man especially when you consider that they showed a Northern Ireland match that no current United player was eligible for (Evans was in the studio as a pundit) and a Galatasaray match solely because we had to play them midweek. Also, there are no more games involving United players this weekend and the next over a week away on a Monday meaning it is unlikely to attract as many viewers. So it's not really that random a choice.

There is no possible scenario where I could envisage someone high up at United telling MUTV to purchase the rights to this game and letting them know it's because we're going to sign Van Gaal and for some bizarre reason this means they should show one of his friendlies.

Janmaat would be a great buy as back-up/competition for Rafael. Cheap and Dutch :D

Born and raised in Belgium so that answers your question:) That's exactly what I was referring to, he got annoyed once the questions were focused on Sneijder. I personally had the impression Hans was not nervous at all and wasn't held back when Van Gaal criticised his repetition of questions on Sneijder.

Don't know mate, I'd say some of them are kept in the loop for some things, and I'd be willing to bet they all sign confidentiality agreements.

Tbh i think MUTV had a interview with Van Gaal after the match which will be shown when its confirmed. They had to do it now as Van Gaal is going to Portugal for the dutch training camp this week.

So its only logical they went to The Netherlands today. The reserved space on MUTV will be replaced with Van Gaal coverage.

If anyone on MUTV knew, it would be out in the ether. They know what we know - which is we want van gaal and discussions have taken place.

As for certain personnel being given heads up, i believe they are given hours notice.

I just wonder if we are holding off the announcement of Van Gaal in order to maybe announce a signing or 2 at the same time!

I don't see why we'd do that. We'd get more attention doing them separately.

What would be the reason for doing that?

Stop the tease. Just announce it already.

that would be nice,

as long as it not Robben or Sagna, getting a tad concerned about the age of some of the layers we are been linked too.

but hopefully it just press rumors and Van Gaal has the best interests of united at heart, and isnt just intrested in winning some trophys and then retiring after a couple of seasons leaving an aging team.
