I think we'll get him for around the £30m mark. Hoping it'll be tied up nice and swiftly once he's home from Brazil. Him and Herrera would be a superb start to our rebuilding process, two proper United-like signings.

With each passing day I'm warming more to Blind over Shaw. Especially with some of the fees being quoted, one good season and Southampton reckon they're the dog's bollocks.

Keeping Evra looks a shrewd move, means we aren't desperate to get a LB in straight away and can let it run till the end of the window if needs be, when Shaw might get jumpy and start agitating for a move.

I'm not one of these fans who cares a great deal for how much we spend as long as it's the right player, but you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. If it's true that Southampton want in excess of £30 million then I think that line, for me, has been crossed. If we spunk £35 million on a left back, clubs are going to think we are desperate and just keep upping their asking prices.

We are too clean for my liking. Madrid or Barca would have got his Grandad on CNN saying how much he would love to see his grandson at Old Trafford before he dies. Or something cheeky like that.

I would hope that we seriously talk to the clubs / representatives of Rodriguez and Moreno to demonstrate to Southampton that there are clearly other young talented left backs who could still give us 10 years service available at potentially much lower prices - because if we wont pay the fee they want then I don't see PSG or City beating a path to them offering crazy money so you would hope they see sense.

If they do push for 35/40 million I would be happy if LVG walked away from the deal as we dont have unlimited money to spend on players and we need to sign some midfielders at some point as well!

Without European football and having Evra for another season we are not as desperate as some seem to think so lets just hope he has a howler of a game tonight and Southampton are suddenly happy to take 25 million

Need the United players in the England camp talking about how much they'd like Shaw over at Old Trafford a la Barca and Fabregas. Maybe put a United top on him or something :D

If we pay 40m for him we'll have dropped our pants for a prolonged pounding.

I really want Shaw, and TBH I don't know what is going on in the background, so it's just a load of speculation, but, I was happy to pay around 30m, not that he is worth it, but he is young, and he is English, so that bumps up the price.

The thing is though, if Chelsea are really in for Filipe, then the only clubs who are in need of a left back are Liverpool and and us.
I really cant see Liverpool paying anywhere near the 27m we bid, so Southampton don't really have much of a bargaining chip. Yes, they could keep him, but they won't get this sort of offer anytime soon, so I would definitely stick to my guns here. There are other options of similar quality out there, just not English

£34m has to be bollocks. £28m is bad enough but he is a good player. If they ask for over 30 we should look for others.

Even if it's 30 million or so a deal for a young player like Shaw will include a lot of add-ons which means if we end up paying the full amount he'll have been worth it. I seriously doubt its a 30 million straight cash deal.

We received £80 million upfront for Ronaldo, any potential Shaw deal could be similar with regards the lack of add-ons. We don't really know what kind of deal Southampton are demanding.

Kevin Palmer's article:
http://www.espnfc.us/story/1907897/...alks-with-southampton-over-luke-shaw-transfer

Luke Shaw's move from Southampton to Manchester United appears to be edging closer with sources telling ESPN FC the clubs are in "advanced talks" over a deal.

A report in the Daily Mirror on Tuesday suggested United were willing to pay 34 million pounds to secure Shaw's services, but ESPN FC sources insist the initial fee being discussed for the teenager is not so inflated.

However, United remain the only club to have lodged a firm bid for Shaw, with his desire to join United having been expressed to Southampton officials.

ESPN FC reported in January and again last month that United were confident of signing Shaw and it appears the talks are now reaching a conclusion.

Southampton stated last month that they would not sanction further sales of players until their new manager was in place, with Ronald Koeman's appointment earlier this month setting the wheels in motion on the Shaw deal.

While Koeman has expressed a desire to hold on to Shaw for another year at least, all involved appreciate the size of the potential transfer fee will make it tough for Southampton to reject United's advances.

Saints do, however, remain hopeful of persuading skipping Adam Lallana to stay at the club, despite the England midfielder expressing an interest in following striker Rickie Lambert to Liverpool.

Good, young, EPL proven and English. Would be delighted if we sign him, but for the prices quoted it will be a big risk and in that cse would prefer Rodriguez.
For 34million he would want to step up straight away and make the position his own, I couldnt give a toss if hes english quite frankly, I want the best we can get but id imagine Shaw is taking a huge chunk out of our budget and Southampton want to squeeze every penny out of us, but I agree id rather sign a 21 year old Rodriguez for half that fee.

Shaw's hype actually overshadows the reality for me, If he wasnt English he would be half the price and half the hype IMO

Boys, I just drove past St Mary's and they are putting a red carpet down. I see no other reason than to give Shaw a proper send off when he gets back.

Weren't there stories a few weeks back that he already told the club they wanted to leave? He's going to get pissed off if this drags out and if they put a huge price tag on him. If he starts to agitate, he's ours basically. Can see this dragging on into the latter parts of the window, which makes the decision to keep Evra look like a wise one.

I know it's not my money, but I feel like if we can get Blind for much less, then we might as well give up on Shaw, especially for the prices quoted.

I find it really hard to believe Southampton would reject a bid of £27m. Even if he has another good season for them, he'll surely want out sooner rather than later (if he doesn't already), and they'd be lucky to get £20m for him from another team

Have you gone mad?

This much for a LB.
Mad or desperate? Or are we paying this much with the knowledge (and a hint of hope) that we will get 12/14 years good service out of someone who could go on to be a world class defender for club and country?

Nobody is buying Shaw for 40 million.

Shaw will go for around 22 to 23 million if he is sold at all.

Feck off. We really are not that desperate in that position and there is alternatives. He's an LB for fecks sake. Am I the only idiot who watched Switzerland vs Ecuador and saw a great LB boss that match? Are we even interested at all in Rodriguez :(?

We can't afford to get shafted on a fullback. He still needs to prove it over a longer period before he is worth anywhere near £30 million in my opinion. Blind looks like he would be a fine, cheaper option. Leaving us with more money to strengthen elsewhere, i.e. wingers/wide forwards.

The fee going up is all pure media knowing they have feck all else to talk about. Once he's back from the WC he'll force a move if he wants to leave, which will bring the price down considerably. This isn't going to go anywhere near £40m, try half that.

OK this is how I see this..

ON the plus side:

Young,dynamic,potential star,english (could stay for 10-15 years),great player..

ON the negative:

30m-35 is his final value, we won´t get more if we sell him later on (Alves left for 23m, 7m being add-ons being one of the best LB in the world)..
Pressure moving to United on a high signing fee could break him.
Needs to play all the games to develop which could become a problem at United.

I want to sign this guy but this is getting to the crazy side of football..
