Sky Sports just went live to James Cooper outside Old Trafford and he said this is more or less a done deal. He has spoken to Utd reps inside the club and they're extremely relaxed that this is going through. Also, relations between Utd and Bilabo are "cordial" and they're just playing games.

Herrera has passed his medical and agreed personal terms. They are just waiting for Utd to pay the fee for him, indirectly, as he doesn't have that kind of money in the bank.

I sort of understand the release clause jargon. What I want to know is do the club have to pay that in full or can they pay like they would a normal transfer over a number of years?

We owe Bayern a debt for their trailblazing during the Martinez transfer. Think we can pay it off with Ashley Young?

A question for jojojo, do you think the lfp and tax authorities will clarify these clauses in the future for foreign clubs or will the current vague wording remain? I know they have been very rare, but it seems to be happening more often.

No maybe theres some other way of maybe "transfering" money from one place to another perhaps?
Maybe electronically, but I think clubs still favour cheques. Besides most transfers are paid over the course of years, not many clubs give the cash all in one bulk.

Nobody uses cheques. Much less companies on transactions of this size

Ah, I see. Thank you.

I always thought that these clauses would be easier and less time consuming than trying to negotiate with a club. I was very wrong.

Just how complex are these clauses ?? They seem very time consuming.
The issue is the difference between a buyout + release clause and the Spanish system around buyout clauses.

Not this time. Cooper has been chatting with Utd officials all morning. They've briefed him - basically, this is a matter of 'when' not 'if' now.

Herrera will be a United player next season, lads.

Why are you so worried about how much United are paying? Are they asking you to help out with the deal?
No im pointing out that most of us are a bunch of hypocrites plus i don't think hes worth it.

To the other guy asking why i don't think hes worth it, i follow la liga every week and although he hes by far above average his passing is just pure sloppy and he loses the ball a lot. Still doesn't create much chances from midfield (what we actually need) and isn't really a full defensive midfielder also. hes just another jack of all trades master of none. We got Rooney for that already.

V poor and embarrassing again why do City Chelsea etc not have these issues?

Seems to me that Woodward is out of his depth and either needs help or needs to go.
Well this deal seem a tiny bit confusing, but it doesn't look as though Woodward has done much wrong here.

Was in a meeting the whole day. Would appreciate it if someone could let me know what happened today. And how could we alreday have Ander in Manchester (it was reported he was at Carrington) when our offer was rejected by Bilbao and when the process with the Spanish league regarding fee/ deposit isn't solved yet?
And does the deal still look very likely to happen? THANKS

The thing is release clauses are hardly ever used. That's why there's no real case law.

I suspect we're more likely to see agents putting a better worded version of the clause into individual new contracts (maybe turning it into a direct release clause rather than a unilateral cancellation/compensation clause) instead of any revision of the clause itself. The reason I say that is because I don't think the clause is a Liga thing for them to amend and vote on, it's backed by law and may require amendments to actual national law.

As for getting a tax office to give a definitive ruling on anything like this, other than in an actual court case instituted by them, it almost never happens.

Can we stop blaming Woodward etc? This is far more a complex deal than City's or Chelsea's for Fernando and Fabregas.

We are dealing with a Basque club who play by different rules. We're basically doing everything right with this deal and the only thing that matters is that he signs with us and has a full pre-season. It doesn't make a difference if he signs today, tomorrow or next Wednesday.

Nev smash!!
well if bilbao agreed to him having a medical thats fine.
people having been saying it dosn't matter whether bilbao have said he could come or not becuase we are buying out his contract. which i dont agree with, i dont think you should have a player at your club untill an agreement is in place. which it dosnt seem to be yet.
The whole point is that he's breaking his contract to come to United. Once he's made Bilbao aware of that, and has paid the compensation fee, which he reportedly has done, then he's breached his contract and can talk to us if he wants.

Why did we bother going for Herrera? Surely he would have known it could be complicated

If (when) we land him, are you going to complain? None of this matters right now. All that matters is that he signs before the season starts.
