Wouldnt they have mentioned his name? sounds like a briefing from the press office.
It'd be a bit pointless for them to say something about it literally an hour after the CEO talked about it and said they didn't put him up for sale. I doubt it's anything more than just that.

BBC just repeating the unofficial briefs every other english journalist has had from the club.

"We're not interest. There's been no contact".

The brief could easily be a lie and Juventus could easily be just saving face.

Yes.

People shouldn't be prone to such mood swings - every high-profile United transfer contains this sort of episode.

There's too many sources saying the deal is dead for it not to be true.

Shame, but getting one of the world's best midfielders here when we don't even have Champions League to offer was always going to be a long shot.

Dude don't do it to yourself, seriously.

They're not sources, they're journalists. And in this case all the english journalists have the same source - United. And the club could easily be lieing.

I'm not too worried. If we are not in for Vidal then we are probably in for another class midfielder, and doing it quietly.

i dont think its down to United not being an attractive prospect, he said himself we're a huge club. My guess would be there's lingering concerns over the knee injury being too much of a risk to pay big money. Now both sides are hushing it up to save face.

It seems a few are jumping ship after todays updates. I wish there was a facility where we could see which side of the fence posters in here are on. I'm firmly settling down in the 'We're signing him' camp until the window is closed.

They're all saying we weren't interested at all though which isn't really true now is it? I think we're just denying all reports to journos, mitten said as much as well. Vidal saying we were an option goes against what all the journos said so I wouldn't trust them too much. I'm sure we'll continue denying everything to everyone until a deal becomes official, if it does of course.

I really think nothing has changed and the evidence suggests that the odds are in our favour for Vidal coming here.
Folks need to chill out a bit.

Agree. Marotta and Allegri were never going to say anything different. It became apparent a few days ago we were denying everything to journos, nobody ever said they were making stuff up, even Jackson himself basically said it could all be lies or it could be true, he's just saying what he's been told.
I think we might end up getting him, it's by no means guaranteed of course but the way I see it is if we offer the right amount (around €45m according to reports) then we'll get him. If not, then he'll stay.

Wonder who we'll actually be in for if Vidal is off the table. Will be another one to add to the classic Caf pursuits, up there with the best (worst?) of them.

It looks ike some of us were right that this would be resolved one way or the other in the next couple of days. Juventus couldn't afford to let these rumors circulate for much longer with the managerial situation.

Until Vidal rules out a move, I'm not ruling it out. People are judging if it's on or not hour to hour now. Nobody has a fecking clue on this one. Juve were hardly going to go come out and say he want's to go, the price is £35 and we will agree soon. They have just replaced their manager. United have been quiet with how business is being done this Summer, no leaks so far. Look how quick Herrera got sorted this Summer. It was done in a few hours. Let's wait and see on Vidal. It's not panic stations yet.

Nurse saying it's a smoke screen could mean we've someone else in mind. But then if we were using Vidal as a smoke screen - why the feck would we so adamantly deny our interest.

Woody: Hey I know, let's use Vidal as a smokescreen

*picks up phone to journalist*

Woody: Hello?
Journo: You interested in Vidal
Woody: Absolutely not.

*hangs up*

Woody: Oh bollocks!

Couldn't agree more. Utd brief press that we aren't in for Vidal (clearly, if it goes wrong, we don't want to look like berks again like last year). Maybe we get him, maybe we don't but to say that it is off because Juve say "we have no intention of selling him" is ludicrous. Surely a more forceful "Vidal will not be sold. He will play at Juve next season.." would have been more definitive???

Or maybe i'm a full muppet, who can tell where the line is anymore.

It's possible that with the new manager coming in, and with Vidal not coming back until the 28th July, there's value in Juve coming out as dismissive to the press, and for United to appear dismissive also, especially if there are legitimate talks ongoing between both clubs. Afterall, It's disruptive to have to contend with the avalanche of crap the media has spouted, especially if you're the new manager of Juventus and you're adjusting to the task ahead.

Given both clubs now have new bosses, makes sense to try to keep things quiet.

Normally this would be enough for me to pretty much think the deal is dead. However, I'm given some hope by the fact that the English press have a) been kept in the dark for a lot of our transfer work and b) been reporting the clearly nonsense story that we never even made contact with Vidal.

Maybe 5% chance we still get him.

I definitely don't buy the idea that this was just a smokescreen or that we have an equally brilliant signing lined up though. If we've failed to land both Kroos and Vidal then the most likely scenario is probably that we're being knocked back, much as we don't want to accept that.

Didnt the exact same thing happen right before the Shaw and Herrera deals were confirmed?
Atletico released a statement saying they rejected the bid for Herrera (some folks in here went nuts) then the next day he was signed.

With LVG... Woodie has to keep his mouth shut till Vidal signs on the dotted line...Vidal-ON.

Not the smokescreen bollocks please.

This. It's daft to think that feigning interest in a player to hide our pursuit of another player is even a tactic that Sir Wood of Ward would even think was worth the effort.

Not to mention, if we were trying to hide our true intentions by creating a Vidal link, surely the club would be briefing journalists that we WERE looking at him, and not as has been widely reported that we don't even have him on the radar?

It also suggests the kind of clubs that can afford world class players don't actually scout them, and rather that they sit in front of Twitter waiting for news of who other clubs are linked with to identify their targets, which is obviously not the case.

If there's a quality player out there that we're secretly scouting whilst half the population is mooning over Vidal you can bet your ass that all the other 'big' clubs (and probably Liverpool) are looking at them too, and if we thought they were worth a bid then we wouldn't be the only ones going for it?

Chelsea- Costa, Fabregas, Pilipe Luis, Courtios (Finished 3rd, CL Semi Final, they have massively upgraded their squad)
Arsenal- Sanchez, Khedira, Debuchy (Finally won silverware, and they want to build on that, and win the premier league)
Man City- Mangala, Fernando, Sagna (Already stacked with world class players, won 2 trophies and have improved squad depth)
Man Utd- Herrera, Shaw, Vermaelan, De Jong (We Finished 7th, our worst premier league finish ever. First time out of the top 3)

It seriously looks like we have zero interest in Vidal, on the other hand Vermaelan and De Jong have both been heavily linked with us, so they're the deals that seem most likely right now. But what a shite transfer window this would be if that was the case, we finished 7th...so realistically we would need to out spend everyone and bring in 3 more more quality players!.

Obviously we might still sign other players, but ffs

What's wrong with James McCarthy? You laugh at the notion of signing him yet you think De Jong would be a good signing! McCarthy was one of Everton's best players last season.

I was laughing at the negative suggestion that we would "settle" for a McCarthy type of player and De Jong would actually be a good signing for us.

Why does Woody seem surprised to be speaking to the journalist? He made the fecking call. No wonder we can't sign Vida, the cnut doesn't even know how to work a telephone.

He'd be a great signing, but the problem is that he plays for Everton. They are most likely to demand a price in the higher end. If Fellaini was £27.5m, how much is McCarthy going to be?!
