Actually Nostradamus
Blind and De Jong.Wonder who we'll actually be in for if Vidal is off the table. Will be another one to add to the classic Caf pursuits, up there with the best (worst?) of them.
Contain your excitement.

Yeah a Man City and AC Milan reject would be a unbelievable signing tbf.
De Jong would be a pretty good signing actually..

I was laughing at the negative suggestion that we would "settle" for a McCarthy type of player and De Jong would actually be a good signing for us.
Really? I've always rated him but he's a pretty limited player and not a good age. I'd hope we have something better up our sleeve.

Oh, is this going to be this years passive aggressive Leon Osman joke?Blind and De Jong.

McCarthy is clearly a better player than De Jong, not to mention also much younger. As has been said he is very under rated on here. It doesn't make sense that you could think that De Jong would be a good signing for us yet laugh at the idea of us settling for a player of McCarthy's quality.

Why would they sell him then? He has hardly all that when he was at City anyway so what makes you think he will be a success here? What does it matter where he played for before if the manager thinks he's good enough?
De Jong is a class DM, and I would like to see us employ one sitting behind two central midfielders. McCarthy, while good, is in my eyes not a good enough central midfielder for us - if that makes sense.
You've did the old 'depict the worst case scenario for United and compare it with the best case scenario for everyone else'Chelsea- Costa, Fabregas, Pilipe Luis, Courtios (Finished 3rd, CL Semi Final, they have massively upgraded their squad)
Arsenal- Sanchez, Khedira, Debuchy (Finally won silverware, and they want to build on that, and win the premier league)
Man City- Mangala, Fernando, Sagna (Already stacked with world class players, won 2 trophies and have improved squad depth)
Man Utd- Herrera, Shaw, Vermaelan, De Jong (We Finished 7th, our worst premier league finish ever. First time out of the top 3)
It seriously looks like we have zero interest in Vidal, on the other hand Vermaelan and De Jong have both been heavily linked with us, so they're the deals that seem most likely right now. But what a shite transfer window this would be if that was the case, we finished 7th...so realistically we would need to out spend everyone and bring in 3 more more quality players!.
Obviously we might still sign other players, but ffs

No it doesn't, because McCarthy would be just as good behind a midfield two, but what set them apart is the fact than McCarthy is clearly the better footballer. If we sign that type of midfielder, I want one that can play football as well, I hate players that is as one dimensional as De Jong.

While it is pretty much the worst case scenarios for us, for the others I feel like it's the most likely scenarios. At least Liverpool look pretty weak after selling Suarez and replacing him with Lapland, lambert, can, markovic and going after more average players like Davies, bony, etc. You've did the old 'depict the worst case scenario for United and compare it with the best case scenario for everyone else'
It's better looking at it like that, as it can only get better, if we indeed do end up bringing a few world class players here. So far the signs are negative which is why I'm looking at it in a negative way. You've did the old 'depict the worst case scenario for United and compare it with the best case scenario for everyone else'
Wow.......The difference between Sanchez, Ozil and Khedira compared to De Jong is huge. Why would Barcelona sell Alexis Sanchez? I don't think Arsenal care why now that they've got their man. Just like I doubt they'll care about Khedira or Ozil having been surplus to requirements at Madrid.
I don't think we'll sign De Jong but how highly he was valued by other managers is irrelevant. If Van Gaal wants him then so be it.
Nurse saying it's a smoke screen could mean we've someone else in mind. But then if we were using Vidal as a smoke screen - why the feck would we so adamantly deny our interest.
Woody: Hey I know, let's use Vidal as a smokescreen
*picks up phone to journalist*
Woody: Hello?
Journo: You interested in Vidal
Woody: Absolutely not.
*hangs up*
Woody: Oh bollocks!

You forgot to mention the most important change: van Gaal instead of Moyes. We finished 1st the season before last, simply doing 'last years position + signings = next seasons position' doesn't work in reality. Also, there's every chance we'll sign more/differently/better than the signings you listed for us.Chelsea- Costa, Fabregas, Pilipe Luis, Courtios (Finished 3rd, CL Semi Final, they have massively upgraded their squad)

smoke screen or smoke·screen (smJesus. Smokescreens again. Still waiting for someone, anyone, to explain to me how they work.
Looks like our transfer window has ended.
How so?
In the sense that we already got our biggest signings in Herrera and Shaw.
If we sign anyone else it will be on the low end. Don't expect any splash signings. All the muppet names are taken.
Bollocks. I expect at least one marquee signing. If Herrera and Shaw are our biggest signings I'll be monumentally disappointed.
Maybe it's because Van Gaal has a system in mind to suit our current squad and maybe Vidal doesn't fit that system. Van Gaal seems to be all about the system. I'm not saying this is the case here but it could be one potential explanation. Its weird after reading old Van Gaal quotes about his huge admiration for Vidal that we wouldn't be interested. I mean Van Gaal tried to buy him before and couldn't but now he's at a club that has the stature and money (well should have anyway) to make it happen so why wouldn't he go all in?.
Knowing us, i'm not going to get my hopes up with Vidal (quite the opposite knowing us) but i have a sneaky feeling that this whole Vidal thing might not be totally over.
