We dont need a hulk to just sit there. We need someone dynamic, with pace, someone who will run at players in midfield , get momentum, get players ahead of him making runs. Thats di Maria. Hes a great box to box player. Regardless, what we DEFNITELY do not need is someone like Carvalho sitting pretty in midfield making bad passes similar to what we had today

Ok. I've not watched Carvalho play much. My point is we need a CDM, who can prevent us from getting over run in midfield, not another forward like di Maria.

Mata was our best player? What game did you watch??
Enlighten us with your wisdom then. Which player was a standout? we all have opinions. Mata was always looking to do something positive, he was tackling more than normal and trying to make something happen. Most of the other players were static and did pretty much sod all.

So bench our current record signing, Mata?
Think we're gonna have to do that. Just being realistic because Rooney and Van Persie aren't gonna get dropped and Mata isn't exactly proving he should be in the team at the minute anyway to be honest.

Neither are Rooney or van Persie to be honest. I think one of them has to be dropped.

Interesting post match interview for the press and someone mentioned him bringing on Januzaj and not Kagawa. Louis said that he had tried Kagawa in that position on tour and that he wasn't able to play there to the standard he wanted. That they had talked it over and agreed he was a Number 10. Does that put Kagawa's position at United in jeopardy?

The way the team are playing I think they should all feel their place at the club is in jeopardy? The problem is we've got too many players who believe their own hype and not enough down to earth footballers who play with a purpose...Cleverly is the modern day Ray Wilkins, negative passing and when he does get forward gets flustered and just seems to want to get rid...no composure or thought

I am not even mad Chelsea and Co are 5 points away already because they arent our direct rivals this season.
The sad thing is that United have already lost one and tied one against teams that will be direct rivals this season. Honestly, playing someone like Chelsea or City or Liverpool right now would play merry hell with morale that must already be low.

Finally saw the match. Can't think of a better word than wow. We are just a truly mid table club. No drive, organization or passion. Our defense looks terrified on the ball. Our wing backs have no idea what they are supposed to be doing either going forward or playing defense. I've been saying over and over again, our central midfield is so dismal, and we saw it again today. Clevs and Fletch would have a hard time finding a starting position on many BPL clubs...and we just started them both. I was all for Moyes out, but I kinda feel bad for the guy because clearly the players are simply not up the standard that we as fans expect. This season is quickly turning into a repeat of last season. Hard to imagine this squad getting anywhere near 4th place.

After two games last season, United had beaten Swansea away and drawn at home to Chelsea for a total of 4 points. This season, the team have lost at home to Swansea and drawn against Sunderland for a total of 1 point. At this rate, many would be happy if it was a repeat of last season, because right now it's considerably worse.

How many "chances" does Kagawa need?
How many times he played as n.10 with our first team players like Herrea, Rooney,Welbeck and rest of the first team? In USA he played only 30min with players like James, Cleverley, Nani, Zaha...

Wouldn't waste my wisdom on you pal. Mata was poor, sideways passing and created nothing which is his role in the team. We had no standouts today although I thought Jones was decent at rcb.

I thought our CBs were our best players today. All 4 acquitted themselves well.

I do find it odd that the Di Maria "agreed fee" was "leaked" straight after the result today.:wenger:

    am I the only one?

As much as we need to bring players in, we seriously need to get rid of Young/Valencia/Fletcher/Cleverley/Hernandez/Anderson. They offer NOTHING to this team, we'd be better off with youth players.
Agree on all apart from Hernandez he's a fox in the box type player and sometimes you need that! I'd like to see the rest go to all our rivals tho! I think what we need is the three of RVP Rooney and Mata surrounded by pacey players get Rafael and shaw back Herrera firing and di Maria with rojo who has pace and fine shot and were a different side altogether! We have 1 loss and a draw but by next week our business needs to be done maybe a cb or mc either or and I reckon we're ready to go then we need a run of wins where we beat some top teams in that run and it could look different by Xmas! Keep the faith! We will bounce back!

This isn't something everyone doesn't know. That's the issue. The question is; is manchester United a mid level team or was it JUST the team out there today?

    - Evans and Rojo will start with Smalling or Jones .... defense not the best .... but 300% better.
    - Wing backs were dismal .... I agree with Young, I thought Valencia was usually pretty decent. Either way, they are backups ... both of them. Rafael and Shaw will improve that greatly.
    - CM problems, well that is an issue we all knew. Herrera and Cleverly will fix that 300% as well, any addition signings of Vidal, De Jong, ect... improves that even better.

RvP was coming back from injury and because of the bad midfield, Rooney again tried to put it on his back and failed. Once they can ocncentrate on actually being good strikers and are in form, we are fine.

For most of the game there literally was no midfield. Either Van Persie, Rooney and Mata had to come back past the half way line get the ball, or the centre backs had to venture miles up the pitch with the ball in a desperate search for anyone who might want it.

Cleverly or Fletcher were both terrible on the ball. Apart from the fact that we all no they only pass backwards and sideways, it was always so obvious to whom they were going to pass to. What was'nt obvious was why they always took so long to make those slow, predictable passes. Fletcher in particular got caught in possession a lot. And Cleverly kept darting off up the pitch after a pass, as if he were making a run in to space or something, except all he was doing was isolating the player he'd given the ball too. His forward runs might actually be useful if he passed the ball forward, or if he had actually ran into some space rather than into a sea of players were he could'nt receive a return pass.

Wonder where this match ranks in relative to the Olympiakos and Fulham ones last season.

Oh, yeah, the difference was stark!

It was, RVP initiated a lot more than Hernandez and he didn't even play well. If you wanna argue that or the fact that RVP is a lot more versatile, feel free.

Please. He was as anonymous as a telephone operator. "Initiated a lot more" indeed!

Jones, Blackett, Young, Valencia, Cleverley, Fletcher, Keane..

Is it really any wonder we struggled? Thats the core of a mid table team.

And why was that ask yourself? Because the guy who selects the team sees him every day in training and would play him if it was warranted by his performances in training?
