Horrible performance. Welbeck and Chicharito were the biggest disappointment - really expected them to take responsibility, but didn't seem bothered for parts of the game... Chicha should just put it in the net, but tries a trick shot 3-0 down 15-20 minutes to go... Young team, but also too many that won't cut it. Keane seems too slow right now, and too nervous at the moment... If half the team showed the spirit young Wilson showed, going on a overlap with 10 seconds to go, we would have won. We have too much deadwood - but the lack of mentality and belief is frightening...

Still - we have lost early in the league cup before, and had horrible performances... Anyway, the deadwood needs to go.

I've forgotten who Chicharito is. He seems to have left when Fergie retired. Evans was supposed to be the leader out there today and he completely and utterly let the team and the fans down.

Can anyone remind me how does this performance fared compared to when we lost with the same scoreline against West Ham? The only thing I remember from the game is the performance of Jonny Evans
I was willing to laugh that one off, as that was a quarter final, and we were leading the PL. Also John O'Shea had a legendary shot in that game

Voted Kagawa man of the match because the teams were level when he was on the pitch. Pereira was the stand out player though.

I'm sorry but that Bayern side had quality all over the park. This United team is extremely top heavy, the defense and midfield is atrocious. Van Gaal may be a genius, but he's no miracle worker.
That Bayern team was top-heavy as well. Their goalkeeper was a 35-year-old Butt who wasn't world class. They had no proper left back besides Contento and Braafheid (both of whom weren't close to the first team) with Badstuber playing as a makeshift left back for the majority of the time with Pranjic (left winger back then) being his main backup. Their central defenders were Demichelis and van Buyten. Their right back was Lahm. Their defensive midfielders were Tymoshchuk, Schweinsteiger, and van Bommel. They were almost as top-heavy as we are with most of their talent up front. Out of their 1st 13 league matches, Bayern only won 5 with a team that, in the end, did very well in van Gaal's first season there.

Ultimately, our players need to change their mentality and believe in themselves and this new system. Seeing world class players like Mata and de Gea play within their shell shows that improvement won't be as instant as we expected.

I personally would make evans as captain apologise on mutv. Absolutely disgraceful. That said van gaal now knows more about our youngsters and i hope he brings an axe to them. Nick powell has talent but if he doesnt have the desire he'll just end up as another cleverley.

Didn't even look like any players went to acknowledge then. Just a joke, no passion at all by the players tonight.
I've noticed that to. Fergie would have made them acknowledge the fans for that. Pity

LVG seems so short minded and bullish with his 352/philosophy/system stuff. If you want to change the system of a big team on long-term, buy the right players for it and so on okay. But if you play youth players and averagers against a motivated little club with a record crowd you obv can not use a new system! feck that
I think he does want to buy the players, he was trying to give the players a chance and they have embarrassed themselves. This squad need major surgery.

Van Gaal just has to accept that this formation does not work in England, many teams have tried and failed at it, it does not work in the UK. He has to switch to 4-3-3 formation with 'Dutch Total Football' approach.
Our team today, even though there were many youngsters are not as bad as they looked today. This system does not fit the players we have and nor will it ever.
Even with only youngster were should have won this game, we have far too much talent in the squad to be embarrassed in this way.
Van Gaal needs to take a hard look at himself and not be stubborn, change the formation - 4-3-3 is the way forward.

    Amos

    Vermijl--Keane--Thorpe--James

    Pereira----Powell

    Januzaj
    Janko--------------------------------Zaha
    Wilson
This would have been far better and with only youngster, even if the likes of De gea, Evans, Anderson, Kagawa, Welbeck or Hernandez were to start. Changing the shape is vital to 4-3-3 and the players will fit, if not then there will be a lot of player who will have to leave.

De Gea should have done better with one or two of the goals, but the defence in front of him was woeful.

Keane looks out of his depth at times.
Evans had the massive cock up with the first goal.
    Vermijl was good and bad.

James is just too slow to be a wing-back. He can't beat a man, and it doesn't help that he has to run the full length of the wing when he can barely pass a player when he's not out of breath anyway.

Anderson and Powell completely lost the midfield battle. Passing was off, but they actually attacked the space which is the only encouraging thing from them.

Januzaj hasn't found his form yet.

Welbeck looked fantastic at the start, but became like a ghost as the game went on.

Hernandez was just useless. What was he thinking with that chance at the end?

Wilson and Pereira were the only positive notes of the whole night. Showed more effort and talent than the rest in the cameo appearances they had.

Really is an embarrassing night. I don't like using that word, but it really is. 4-0 to MK Dons is just unbelievable. Improvement has to be shown against Burnley. It's not right that we've actually deteriorated since pre-season.

No great shock, I predicted 4-0 to MK Dons before the match. We are beyond useless as this stage.

Lost any kind of attacking threat once Kagawa came off. Rest of the players did nothing until Wilson had that shot and a header.

Really 18% for MK fecking Dons to win 5:0? Now that is just silly, when did redcafe become this miserable? I know the results aren't what we are wishing to be, but the team is an utter mess, if you think about it, it's laughable that the likes of Fletcher, Cleverley, Young, Evans and Fellaini are playing for Manchester United.
It will get better, once LVG separates the wheat from the chaff.

For 2-0, Anderson was the only guy trying to be a CB. Failed spectacularly at it, but at least he tried

Any tips on how to cope with the piss takers? Amongst my mates I've got ones that support Leeds and Southampton, but I don't think "how can you talk" will cut it for this one.

Felt intentional from both LVG and the players. He chose a team largely of players he wants out, they gave him a performance that showed they don't care anymore.

Overall, I'm not too concerned. A bit frustrating to not see someone like Adnan take more initiative when he came on in that team but good to see Wilson and Pereira show something.

    Darkest before dawn, etc
