Any tips on how to cope with the piss takers? Amongst my mates I've got ones that support Leeds and Southampton, but I don't think "how can you talk" will cut it for this one.

De Gea should have done better with one or two of the goals, but the defence in front of him was woeful.

Keane looks out of his depth at times.
Evans had the massive cock up with the first goal.
    Vermijl was good and bad.

James is just too slow to be a wing-back. He can't beat a man, and it doesn't help that he has to run the full length of the wing when he can barely pass a player when he's not out of breath anyway.

Anderson and Powell completely lost the midfield battle. Passing was off, but they actually attacked the space which is the only encouraging thing from them.

Januzaj hasn't found his form yet.

Welbeck looked fantastic at the start, but became like a ghost as the game went on.

Hernandez was just useless. What was he thinking with that chance at the end?

Wilson and Pereira were the only positive notes of the whole night. Showed more effort and talent than the rest in the cameo appearances they had.

Really is an embarrassing night. I don't like using that word, but it really is. 4-0 to MK Dons is just unbelievable. Improvement has to be shown against Burnley. It's not right that we've actually deteriorated since pre-season.
Give this man an award! The most sensible post all day. I agree

Everybody but Wilson and Pereira were hopeless, LVG did say that there is usually a bad start when he joins a club as he asks players to change the way they play but some of these players will never be able for it.
At least we hopefully have not got long to wait before we have a proper football team out on the park again. I will be able to take the slagging tomorrow hopeful that we might turn it round sooner rather than later. Lets see who we buy in the next week before we get too depressed. Crap night tonight though, utter crap!

This is the problem with playing an experimental (to what they are used to playing anyway) formation with what is essentially your B (youth) team in the "Mickey Mouse" cup. Hugely increases the risk of getting humiliated. A loss like this won't help the young guys confidence or development at all.

Saying that, certain players did not look interested at all from kick off - notably Hernandez. He usually radiates jolly

Wilson impressed me. Some details of his game really caught my eye.

Pereira was good as well. But he will need to go on loan sooner than later. He has all the elements to succeed, but needs to play regularly at a higher tempo. Still a bit slow on his decision making i thought... loved his workrate today.

LVG has to assess the players in competitive matches. Time for the winners to shine and the dead wood to be discarded.

When asked if he regretted making so many changes to the team, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal said: "No, you have to analyse the problem and I've done that. We have nine injuries and had a very young team. I have seen them trying to do their utmost best so you cannot expect more from players. Fans have to believe in our philosophy, we are building a team which we cannot make in one month or even one year. It's very disappointing but I hope they maintain their confidence in our club."

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, when asked if the club would be signing any more players in this transfer window: "No. This is same question your other colleagues have put. We know exactly what we are doing. We have lost in the Capital One Cup, and so tonight has cost us the chance of a trophy, and that is disappointing

Don't get the hate with Vermijl on here.Apart from the 3rd goal he did well tonight. You need to remember he hasn't played CB until the last U21s match and even that he's better on the right side than left side.

I can't understand why we keep playing with 3 centre halfs when that is a weak point. Surely we should be playing to our strengths and not to a pre planned system. Im all for it if we had the players to play it !

That should end a few United careers really, with Anderson and Hernandez being the 1st two out the door.

Anderson did ok. Hernandez was very poor and I think Wilson should have started. I think though Anderson looks better then Fletcher and Cleverly.

Moyes is pissing himself right now. I know it was second string and MK dons love a good cup run and giant killing but, that was the worse match I've seen united play in a long time. Turned off after the 4th went in and I never do that

As a United fan who lives and works in Glasgow the only saving grace is that Celtic got pumped out of Europe tonight so I'll probably get left alone, no texts or dicks on Facebook yet.

Can you believe I stuck a fiver on United when we went 2-0 down.

Its nothing about dead wood, this formation does not suit the players that were out today and the players in the first team, it just doesn't fit. That does not mean the players are shit, its simple change the formation.
Hernandez is at his best when he is the lone man upfront, today Januzaj looked like a league 2 player and we know he's far better, again the formation does not suit him. This formation is pushing out a lot of talented individuals who in a 4-3-3 would be top players and were doing this while keeping dross like Valencia, Young, Fletcher and Cleverley. Why is Januzaj looking such a bad player when he was top quality on the wings last year??? He needs to play as a winger with a FB supporting him.

My thoughts are that Powell is our best player today?
I'll have to strongly disagree. He's only what 20/21 so he gets a pass like the other U21s but he was lazy (as were all the defenders), didn't make a tackle, didn't run, misplaced several passes etc The only thing he did right was shoot off-target twice.

I deserve every single bit of abuse I'm getting from my mates tonight after that. The good think about it is that the majority of tonights team won't feature in games that matter this season.

MK Dons played well and were clinical in capitalizing on all our errors, but boy were there plenty of errors to go around, in the first half we could barely string 3 passes together.

It was a hotchpotch team selection but when you see professionals not even doing the basics properly it's disappointing, and I thought Evans, Hernandez, Anderson and Welbeck were poor as the senior players out there tonight, Evans and Hernandez were actually the worst 2 players on the pitch.

I'm not as angry as some seem to be because in the bigger picture this isn't that huge of a deal, and Wilson and Pereira I thought did quite well when they came on, so that is a plus. The truth is there is no confidence on the pitch right throughout the club right now and that will take time to rectify.

Andersons problem has never been ability, it is staying fit. Anderson has pace and technique and can beat a man he just is never fit. Cleverley on the other hand is always fit but is useless on the pitch.

Taking the next corner instead of Jones!
This morning SSN were playing a loop of lower league sides edging us out of league cups over the years and it made for painful viewing … but none were as inexcusable as this!

Does anyone here really think any of those second string players out there tonight would have dared to turn in performances like that under SAF?

A real shame that the youngsters will not have these cup appearances to gain experience. Seems to be a real psychological problem permeating through the club right now, and it's really exposing some of the weaker mentalities.

some of the reactions to this show there are people on here who have no business being united fans.
that said, this must be the game the coin drops for van gaal that there are simply footballers in this squad who are not good enough.

de gea didn't have a hope. no blame there.
vermijl, keane, james, janko, powell are youngsters coming to terms with a new system. i'm not going to vilify them.
evans, welbeck and januzaj were poor but are allowed an off night as all 3 are good more often than bad.
wilson and pereira were fine and did the best they could all things considered.

anderson, kagawa and particularly hernandez were awful and along with young, valencia, fellaini and cleverley are awful on a regular basis. i feel kagawa has the ability but not the confidence and can only be given so many chances.

a lot of people have spoken about the mental weakness in the squad. i think that stems from the culture that grows when poor players are given the shirt over and over and over again.

when united were mentally strong, you knew you had to perform or someone would have your shirt. if you didn't perform, you would be shown the door no matter what your name was or how much you cost.

those 7 should be told they can leave this week. if they can't find clubs then they should be training together and separately from the first team and reserve squads so they cannot continue to drag them down.

our youngsters and first team need to learn that mediocrity is not acceptable at manchester united.

Anderson did ok? He was awfull, absolutely useless, and at fault for the second goal. He sucks, can't wait to see the back of him.
