We shan't forget that's the second time in less than 3 years where Evans is one of the main players contributing to a heavy loss.

No need to panic just yet, he's not a miracle worker, i think tonight was a good match to assess which youngster is ready and who wants to stay and fight for their place at utd, lvg isn't daft and i'm confident he will get it right i think he's weighing up the situation, can't expect him to just walz in he's still a better option than moyes thats for sure.

but yeh even with a 2nd string we should have done better.

I love LvG, the difference between Moyes and LvG, Moyes would have come out with the usual "we tried and we aspire to be like MK Dons". LvG was straight to the point, praised the fans and said that it wasn't acceptable for United to be losing and he wants to give these fans something to applaud. Also said about the injuries which of course was understandable, explained that losing those players meant he was forced to choose from the youth squad.

That guy Reeves was way better than all ManUtd midfielders. Sign the beast.

For those saying that we were not this bad under Moyes, can say only even maybe if true,we would never progress and improve under Moyes to reach place where we all wants to see our club,LvG will reach that place,i dont have any doubt about that, even if we look worse now then under Moyes.

Disappointed with Evans adn Cheech msot of all. Some of the defender lads like keane, James are just not close to ready - it's no wonder only Blackett has gotten serious game. Wilson & perreira looked good.

Andersons problem has never been ability, it is staying fit. Anderson has pace and technique and can beat a man he just is never fit. Cleverley on the other hand is always fit but is useless on the pitch.
Yeah it was a cup game, but tough one and they pressed us high and some youngsters had problem with first touch and no confidence to play the right pass. Anderson looked really commposed and like he knew what he was doing, the ability on the ball was obvious he had really great release to hernandez right after he recieved it, cleverley would be controlling the ball till now. Considering how poor and clueless was Nick Powell in midfield with a lack of workrate he did brilliantly well. He also played after a year or so and comparing him to clevz and fletch who both had full preseason and fantastic run of games for them, Anderson was fantastic today.. He is my starter for Burnley game. I wouldnt mind pairing hi with pereira who looked like great playmaker even, it was just end of the game and less pressure on the players..

Is this the most embarrassing defeat in the club's history?
Not even close - that was a youth team with fringe seniors. We've lost worse games with our full squad. It's jsut shocking given our past season and our manager being hyped all summer.

    No. just Kagawa.
kagawa at dortmund was a manchester united standard player. how long do we allow the youngsters to watch him put in these performances while we wait for that player to return?

Are you judging Kagawa after tonight???? Which are these performances that you talk about? Give him the #10 role and he would succeed. Played out of position to much.

i think lvg has seen enough. hope he can now distinguish between the players he can get rid off and the ones he can develop into united-quality. maybe we get another top signing like di maria. hopefully a dm.

Don't understand all the overreaction here. We lost in the league cup just like how the commentator mentioned us losing in the league cup against Yorke 3-0, with Beckham, McClair, Giggs and Gary Neville in the team. It is a worthless competition with the sole purpose of giving the squad players and youngster a run for the bigger teams anyway. I really don't give too hoots if we progress in the league cup or not. You can't really read too much into good performances from players in this competition anyway. If say Anderson played well today, people will still sensibly be calling out for him to be shipped out.

I prefer to focus of the positives, one lesser cup competition to be involved in which means we can clear out the deadwood without the need for a bigger squad. We are only involved in 2 competitions and the FA cup only starts on January. That means the likes of Anderson, Young, Cleverley, Hernandez should all leave before the end of the transfer window. I don't get why the supposed clear-out hasn't started taking place yet. There are several players in team who clearly aren't good enough and it's time we shipped them out instead of persisting with them. I know it is hard to ship them out with the salary that some of them are on but even loans, with us paying a percentage of their salaries, would be great. Its time we stopped the rot from setting in.

Never really valued the league cup, it's useless, and the only downside to this is that the youngsters won't be getting game time. It has been baptism by fire for them and they will learn a lot from it. Just hope the loss hasn't affected their morale too much, esp the first team players like Januzaj, DDG, Evans and Welbeck... Oh and the away fans were truly brilliant as usual.

Youth team or not, it's still the best competition to play youngsters in. We'll for sure not play that many in the PL.

I am a bit shocked at the attitude of most of those kids. I could hardly see anyone being excited and giving their all in order to impress. Powell and Adnan annoyed me the most, Powell looks like he couldn't care less and Adnan has a lot to do if he wants to fulfill his potential.

    The senior players:
Welbeck started well but turned useless later on.
Chicarito if it was up to me has played his last game for United.
Kagawa did OK until he got injured.
Evans needs to sort it out quickly, he is our most experienced defender and should start acting like one.
DDG as much as I love him is getting too comfortable for my liking, needs some real competition.

Anyway, rather we get that kind of result in the league cup than in PL, but I am really annoyed at the lack of desire from our young players to stay in that competition. Now most of them can forget a match at that level for a year, unless we draw some minor side in the FA Cup (where they actually don't deserve to play based on today's performance).

So tired of this awful argument. Can you judge any player off last season. Of them 30 appearances in ALL competitions, he started 23. Of them 23 he only played #10 or AM 11 times. 5 of those in the champions league and 4 of which were his best performances...Leverkusen twice and Bayern aswell.

People like you point to his assist record. Now he played LW most of the season and even then assists are reliant on the person on the receiving end finishing them. Have you seen the chances he created...Ill get the video up.

Even with this, notable performances were, aston villa, Norwich, Newcastle and bayer Leverkusen.

Answer me this. Do you think that he has been given a fair chance in his best position?

Disappointing that our manager and his coaches stay firmly sat on the bench all game, in every game so far.
They're taking notes - I rather that than Moyes's dead stare. I think LvG knows exactly what to do - problem is it's not an overnight solution so we will have more difficult times ahead before it gets better. Rome wasn't rebuilt in a day etc

Really 18% for MK fecking Dons to win 5:0? Now that is just silly, when did redcafe become this miserable? I know the results aren't what we are wishing to be, but the team is an utter mess, if you think about it, it's laughable that the likes of Fletcher, Cleverley, Young, Evans and Fellaini are playing for Manchester United.
It will get better, once LVG separates the wheat from the chaff.
I suspect a number put that up for a giggle. I know I did and I predicted 1-0.

You always need a leader there to guide these kids.Evans didn't fullfill that role today although he might not be in full fitness. We were ok until Kagawa went off.

I feel for De Gea... That's not good for his record with these numpties in front of him. Ben Amos should've been in the post since he ain't got nothing to lose

of course he has. there isn't a player in the united squad bar maybe van persie who hasn't been played out of position in the last 18 months. he didn't do enough to prove he is better in his preferred position than mata so he doesn't deserve to start there.

i liked kagawa. i wanted him to do well. just as i wanted anderson to do well. they haven't. time to move on. we are soft, weak and average. our players aren't afraid, nobody is afraid of us. time for change and quickly.

Of course, youre wrong in what youre saying. But anyway, you asked if I thought he was united quality. He is.
However, I do agree that its in his best interest to move on. Cant wait to watch him play for a manager that wants hi again personally.

my god you're a spoofer. i wouldn't mind but you're so obnoxious about it!!!

kagawa had 13 games at AM last season. during those 13 games he contributed 0 goals and 1 assist.
mata had 8 games at AM last season. during those 8 games he contributed 5 goals and 3 assists.

basically your argument comes down to "nice footballer hard done by when not given starts in attack over player who contributes towards several times more goals than him"

[edited because original numbers included his chelsea stats. just his united figures make the difference between the two players even greater]

Finally back from work and saw the score. And I thought people were over reacting after the Sunderland draw by predicting MK Dons 5-0.

Yes, very disappointing, but still only a meaningless cup. We have gone out of this competition in the past with better players on the pitch against similar tiered rivals. I see this more as many of these players last chance to prove they are worth being a part of this rebuilding project. Without having even seen the match I can assure you that many of our players will never grace a pitch wearing our shirt again. LVG has to learn these things. Silver lining is that many of these guys just made his life so much easier.

To be honest I know it was long of our strongest XI, but for players representing United it is just an utter disgrace for that to happen.

I actually think we will start picking up form and do a lot better this year under LVG, but right now it is terrible.

These players are supposed to be the ones who come into United and take care of teams like MK Dons. The odd shock result like Southend away a few years ago is acceptable but 4-0 is just tragic.

I know it's only the league cup, but still, would have been nice to go for it as it represents some silverware.

Utter shambles that was. Please beat Burnley.

    Dire.

Many of them won't play for the club again.

A few will be out the door by this time next week.
This. I feel as this may have been the last time we will see Welbeck, Hernandez or Anderson in a united shirt. Seems to me as he was giving them all one more chance before the end of the transfer window.

Heres my source before you call me a spoofer:
    http://www.transfermarkt.com/shinji-kagawa/leistungsdaten/spieler/81785/saison/2013

Now when did I compare him to Mata? I have not been arguing that he should start ahead of mata. Its mata position but is kagawa not an excellent backup/competition for him. So I see no benefit to seling him.

Before you say it, no rooney and/or Januzaj are not better than kagawa at #10.

Ps.. Mata has been shocking in the last 3 games including Liverpool. He played his best football with kagawa in the team. ie. Norwich, aston villa, newcastle

We actually have had a few of these kind results.

Remember York City in 95, then there was Coventry beating us 2-0 at OT one year. Southend and Crystal Palace aswell.

 I know, but it just seems surreal. It sounds like we didn't do anything ourselves, as if we've been battered for 90 minutes and they've not even been remotely lucky.

    Quite a worry.
