Probably doesn't deserve its own thread but I can't think of a more exciting time to be a United fan right now... is anyone else feeling ridiculously excited about the QPR game and the remainder of the season? actually looking forward to a United game for the first time in ages, it has become a chore of late. By no means do I think the season ahead is an easy one nor that victory against QPR is guaranteed but I just have this feeling that after years of no entertainment, whilst we will endure some growing pains no doubt.. we're going to see some entertainment once again.

I've been watching some Luke Shaw games from pre-season, the lad was very impressive.. he got some very undeserved criticism from alot of quarters but feck me his first touch, his ability to pick out a pass and ability to drive with the ball are top class, I think he's going to be a star I really do. He just needs to work on his dribbling in the final third against a deep set defence and add some variety to his dribbling skills.

Herrera also had moments of class during pre-season but imagine him in a team where he isn't the only player capable of producing a pass, imagine him with more time and space on the ball if ADM gets all the attention. Another player who I'm looking forward to seeing in that new look side. I see people moaning about Pogba, Fabregas, Kroos.. but one thing our boy has is that his mobility is superior to all three and he has such a fantastic personality. United badly needed some energy in that midfield, we were so static that Cleverley was the only midfielder we had with abit of legs.. seriously dire situation. Herrera is ideal in that respect, he has boundless energy and enough quality about his game to make a big impact on our style of play immediately.

Di Maria at Old Trafford.. we saw moments of class against Burnley and we saw him dismantle a German team, now we get to see him run riot at home, supplying the likes of Falcao. For me the above three players.. I feel so certain they will definitely be hits.. age, quality and athleticism is all on their side and I'm excited to see them all on the pitch at the same time.

Blind, Rojo and Falcao.. are slightly more unknown quantities for different reasons.. seems weird saying it about Falcao but is he the same player etc obviously no one can 100% guarantee that. But if these lads come in and produce .. then we have a very exciting team on our hands and it will only get better this january and next summer.

There is alot of uncertainty about the place and doom n gloom i.e. loss of welbeck which I myself wasn't too pleased about but this summer we have brought in some serious quality, signings I can't even find fault with especially the first three. This team is definitely better than the one we were subjected to a year before and for that we should all be grateful. It could have been Baines, Cavani, Kroos and Moyes in charge.. which I don't think would have led to the drastic changes we needed.

So yeah an OP that isn't really going anywhere but if you too are feeling incredibly excited.. please share - makes a change to the identity crisis posts. 2007/08.. was that the last time we had such a feeling?

Definitely. It almost feels like the start of the season for me again. I feel like the first 2 games were a crappy dress rehearsal.

I really hope we go all guns firing, blaze QPR away 4-0, and serenade Rio out of the ground with a "you got murkd" chant.

Yeah, haven't anticipated a game like this in ages. And I actually think the international break came at a great time  (who'd have thought).

Let's hope we play some great stuff.

That is the thing.. I don't care about losing etc, I just want that feeling where I'm enjoying United again.. I hate going into a game and expecting Valencia to be the main source of attack and not liking any player on the pitch cause I think they're all shite. There are a number of players in that first team now which I can actually get behind and support as I have faith they're good enough and they actually excite me.. I enjoy watching them because they have pace, flair, work-rate. They are Man United quality footballers.. and that is priceless. It is a big step forward.

Jones could be out, yet another new back 4/5 lineup that won't be too solid. Rio back for QPR will probably be world class for one match at last. Certainly possible.

That would be 'fun' on here.

* look at Van Gaal, he's just sitting there! *

* I wish Rooney would break both his legs! *

Some sense in a world of silliness.

I'll start getting excited when I start seeing good football. No way I'm jumping on this bandwagon at this stage. We've had enough false dawns, people were giddy enough after our pre-season!

Right now I don't care how we win, I just want us to win a game again. Even a Young dive resulting in a pen or OG would do!

Rape as a metaphor :nono:

Yes, I'm excited, especially for Di Maria to light up OT again. For us to start playing well again.

This thread feels like the 'We. Are. Back.' Thread after youse won the preseason. These threads always end up cursing you.
Barney genuine question, as a Liverpool fan.. when did you feel like Rodgers was finally having an impact, like you got excited about the fact you felt the club is heading in the right direction. I know Liverpool fans get excited regardless whomever is in charge but seriously.. was there a moment, or a signing etc that made you feel.. this team feels different and is going to go places.

"Lul" is the Dutch word for d1ck. 'Raping' the German national team, Louis van Gaals balls that'll probably get thrown in the mix. Not quite sure where this thread is going... :smirk:

Good point. You would know better than 95% of this forum when it comes to false dawn. People should wait and relax.

From my psespective, I would say the 6-0 away win to Newcastle. That was a demolition. However, it wasn't until the 5-0 away win against Spurs last December that I really sat up and realised he was having an amazing impact.

Although big wins are not everything, they do represent great team performances. Rodgers has built a team. So far, LvG has built a squad. I think the bumpy days aren't quite over for United.

I just want us to start playing some exciting stuff, and I'm sure that will come when all the new signings bed in. A run of wins is pretty vital now though.

Not sure I can pin it down to one thing. The January we signed Sturridge and Coutinho was massive. The Spurs game last winter when we smashed them at their place also felt massive, as if something just clicked in the team and that was when it felt like we could stick four or five past everyone. When we beat Fulham 3-2 was when I thought we were challengers for the title rather than competing for 3rd and 4th.

I honestly don't know what'll happen Sunday. It could easily a 4-5 goal margin in United's favour, they could huff and puff to 1-2 nil win, or another underwhelming result might be on the way.

Excitement levels couldn't be much higher right now. As the OP says, the season kicks off in a few days' time.

And just think, if we hammer QPR and all other 18 teams lose (), we'll be right back in the title race. Bring it on!

Seriously, can't wait for this side to click and switch into LVG mode. Don't think it'll happen overnight, but a win on Sunday wouldn't half help speed things up.

Uhuh. I'm still a long way short of the kind of bullishness in the OP. Let's start seeing the team performing before we can start making predictions of greatness.

To be honest, even if we do turn into a great team under Van Gaal I would be amazed if we look like one this weekend. I mean, we might still smash QPR but that won't mean much after Spurs spanked them only to get destroyed by you lot. They're really crap. Despite this, I can still see us struggling to a scruffy win. You don't go from absolutely atrocious to brilliant over the course of two weeks.

I was looking on Betfair earlier, United are like 1/4 on to beat QPR, probably the most cert odds we've had for a while. They know that as and when our team (especially our attack) clicks, a side is going to get hammered. I really hope we get into gear quickly.

Haven't been this excited about United in a long time to be honest.

So many home debuts to be potentially handed out and finally chance to get a look at what van Gaal wants to do with personnel now at his disposal.

He has , he did, they have gone places ? Nah.

I knew it was the same old song when Goofy engineered a pay rise for the last few weeks of commitment to the cause and they gave it to him. They will be heading in the right direction this season below us. As for Q.P.R .......... so exciting, early goal and it will be day to remember.

I have not been this nervous.
I remember having a similar feeling last season when our tough games in the beginning got over. We had a couple of home games coming, it was Vs Newcastle and Everton. A lot of us were considering it to be the real start to our season and all. I think we lost both games.
Had a similar feeling before the league opener for us. We lost that game.
We have shown nothing in the games this season to think that we will be spectacular. I don't expect to see all rojo, herrera, shaw, rafael, di maria, blind and falcao starting. I see Valencia starting, Fletcher starting. I seriously hope we don't see a 5-3-2 or ashley young in the team. I want us to win, will be super happy even if its a scrappy lucky win. I believe the best we can get out of that game is a scrappy lucky win. Let's just get that. It could be a lot worse too.
A glimpse of what could happen:
LvG could be unsure of the readiness of Blind, Falcao to start right away. That would mean Fletcher starting.
Shaw and Rafael both as starting full backs after having played no games at all, seems unrealistic. That could mean a 5-3-2 with valencia and young as wing backs.
Jones could be injured, that could mean Evans starting(if smalling has not recovered.

The only people certain to start are:
Rooney, Di Maria, Herrera, De Gea.

Yeah our start to the season feels like it was postponed until now. So many injuries and our transfers being done, its almost a completely different starting 11 for this game and the first 3. Its why I wasn't worried about those first ones, it sucks we didn't get the results but its only the first 3 games and hopefully we really kick on from now with the players back. Sucks that Jones and maybe smalling are still out though, same with Carrick.

This is the problem all non United fans are going to have to suffer on Sunday evening. You will slaughter QPR, if not for the fact you are due a win, then for the fact they are woeful and away to United. To be fair I think you would beat QPR even if you didnt have ADM and Falcao added to the mix so try not to get too far ahead of yourself ;).

Most fans know it's going to be a long road, however the difference from this year to last is we can see the direction LVG wants to bring us. We were crying out for several things last season, a few good signings, getting rid of the deadwood, sorting out the midfield, changing our style of play, van Gaal has delivered and fingers crossed we will have a good run now in regards to injuries.

I was very excited for this game, but even more so after reading the OP!

My only worry being that my hopes and expectations are uncontrollably being built up. If we don't perform on Sunday then I fear I may dive hard...

Extremely excited for Sundays game, it's as the op says we're looking forward to a United game for the first time in ages, it feels like the start of the season but not just that, the start of something new and it is, a new era.
Not expecting too much performance wise but I do think we will win just through the sheer weight of the players at our disposal. Hoping to see all the new lads get a run and perhaps a vision of how they will fit into the system, I would like to see a move away from 3-5-2 but I feel we will see it again on Sunday.

We'll probably be the same vs QPR unless we move away from this very negative formation. We're more likely to win with a moment of magic from di maria or falcao. In x amount of games with holland and man united we haven't seen that 3-5-2 is capable of anything other than effective counter attack, mostly with a ball to robben. we have the players to move to 4-3-3 but we probably have too many star strikers to do it, which is sad. Imagine we paid falcao rvp rooney mata di maria 1.2m this week and only played 2 of them
