Well this was disappointing. We really shouldn't struggle to create chances with those players even with Palace putting a lot of players behind the ball.

I get that there are injuries but we still have class out on the pitch and are not putting anything significant goalbound. We are not progressing at all. Januzaj just isn't contributing like he did last year. Di Maria is struggling. RVP isn't making much happen although he looks about the only one, along with Shaw, that could put something on frame. Not very appealing football which is what we have been clamoring about being the difference between LvG and Moyes.

With carrick the team I can see bringing in mata for the big dude but what about adnan he is slowing us down as well. Maybe dm along with carrick switch adnan to left wing

Terrible half, that. Definite shades of last season there. Midfield is laborious, Rooney isn't a midfielder and the Van Persie/Rooney partnership, or lack of one, remains a massive problem.

You can't play a 433 with a static striker and another striker in midfield.
It's like a 4-3-3 but 2 of the midfielders are pleating as #10's... Never going to work. Leaves Carrick too isolated.

Knock-knock-knock the ball around from our half to their box. Dwell about, then dwell about some more, lose the ball. They clear, we win it back. Over and over. Only time something looked like happening was when Shaw just charged straight on. We are trying to hard to be patient for an opening. Just freaking force our way into their box and ruffle them up a bit for god's sake.

Very frustrating, 75% possession, but no tempo, and not a single chance created. Di Maria looks a shadow of the player he was in central midfield, Januzaj looking more future Macheda than future Ronaldo, and I can't see us keeping a clean sheet with our obvious set-piece vulnerabilities (and that's the only reason to keep a truly dreadful Fellaini on the field). All in all, it's abysmal.

Get Herrera on; at the very least, he'll quicken the game up.

Patience can be a virtue in games like this when the other team shows up and plays 11 men behind the ball. The chance that fell to Palace was because of an utter brain fart from our two makeshift center halves, rather than a coaching failure.

We've kept the ball constantly but haven't created enough with it. One feels that we need better movement to make that happen. Januzaj has been largely awful, and Fellaini is too static. I'd bring on Herrera and Mata. Revert to the diamond with Carrick anchoring Di Maria and Herrera. Mata sitting behind RVP and Rooney.

Encourage the full backs to provide the width.
Good points. Its not a good idea to watch Real Madrid in the week leading up to a game like this. I do think we will score in the second half though.

I can see what you lads meant by the whole "newbies shouldn't be allowed in matchday threads" stuff.

I apologize for ever disagreeing with it.
I rarely post in the Match Day threads anymore because of it. Obviously there are some good aspects of it too.

RVP, ADM and Januzaj have been poor for weeks, yet everyone insists that Fellaini is to blame...

Really don't understand how some players keep getting into the team playing like this, it's crazy.

Not sure what Carrick has done wrong so far to get these comments. Same thing Blind does and gets lauded most of the times.

Was nice watching Willian and Hazard going past their defenders with easy earlier with Januzaj and DI Maria falling over every time they attempt to.

Adnan needs to come off, why he's starting ahead of Herrera I don't know.

Get Wilson on for robin, Herrera on for adnan, go back to playing the diamond with di Maria playing in midfield where he is at his best.

All that early season buzz seems non-existent now. At one stage of the season we looked like we could score whenever we wanted to, but now, couldn't for the life of us, create a fecking half decent chance!

1 up top is not working. RVP forced wide to receive the ball. Nothing coming through the middle. Most of our play coming down the right through a poor looking Adnan.

Herrera on for Adnan and pushing Roo up top with rvp would be our best move.

We were also lucky twice from corners, Roo not tight enough or committed enough when marking.
I kind of agree with this, but we'll also need to go diamond I think; Angel Di Maria has gone to absolute Ashley-young-level shite on the wing.

Might be a reason, but no excuse. He's been playing as a winger all up until last season and should do a job.
Playing as a winger for united ATM is VERY different than playing as one for either Benfica or Madrid. We have no creativity in midfield and just give the ball to the winger Di Maria/Januzaj and expect them to produce magic whilst usually up against 2 if not 3 defenders. Its just plain stupid.

EDIT: Herrera on the pitch would make a huge difference, and also move Rooney up top (he is not a midfielder)

The players look shocking slow and uninterested on the field, disgusting even to watch, Di Maria should never ever again take any corner, free kick even a penalty, Januzaj .. Ok let's be honest, he is so overrated, he can't obviously play for such a big team, not yet. He slows down EVERY attack, counter attack, too much individuality, Di Maria, Fellaini, RVP waved with the arms when he had the ball, he just don't want to give it.

    We need Herrera, Mata ..

Didn't seem that bad except for the last third. But Palace are defending well. Imagination is what's missing.
