Match winner against league two opposition. Doesn't tonight just prove that MLS is his level.

He's been pretty poor this season but they'll still miss his free-kicks and set-piece deliveries. Who will take them next season? Can't imagine anyone being close to Gerrard in that regard.

So basically he would have signed a contract but nevertheless expected to be a regular and now he has seen he will be a squad player only which doesnt excite him he's off to USA.

His comments in the media are self-serving and downright deluded. I can't understand how the prospect of "managing his game time" was so much of an issue. Forever coined Stevie Me.

Tbf, I think he'll do well in MLS. He has good long range passing and above average playmaking, which is lacking in probably most teams here.

And US is good place to work/live also.
It really isnt. I was there for 7 years (admittedly between 11 and 18 so not the most crucial of years) but I will not be going back. The weather is great.
That's about it.

"I retired from England to concentrate on Liverpool. I didn't want my club games to be tailored."

Compare that to his quote about Brenton raising the question of playing a few less games the day after he announced he was jacking

"It was a very difficult conversation to have, but I'm bright enough to realise it is the right thing. I accept it."

I'm not being funny but if you think you're still up to starting every game for a side that's playing in the Europa, then there are leagues all over Europe you can have a crack at, why are you taking the money and going to America?!

He's pissing off and trying to do Rodgers over on his way out, the self important small time prat.

"What on earth would Liverpool do without Steven Gerrard?"
Jesus Christ he scored 2 goals against AFC Wimbledon, what would they do, play the rest of the season without the collected football writers of England hanging out their captains arse. The way they're going on about the tosser, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Football Writers pull some sort of lifetime achievement award out their collective arses

He literally fecking says it right here, “I never wanted to find myself in the situation where I was coming back to play against Liverpool. Even if I went somewhere else in Europe I'd be running that risk in terms of the European competitions."

You've made a lot of shit posts in this thread trying to belittle Gerrard and make him look self-important, but this one is probably the worst of the lot. How on earth is he trying to do Rodgers over? That is such a load of bollocks. If anything he's gone too far in the other direction in calling him a top manager. In every interview he's done since the news came out he's talked about Brendan Rodgers and has pointed out in each of them that he thinks he's a top manager. Are these the words of someone trying to "do over" Rodgers: “Also, I said to myself that if you want to play for a big team in Europe with a great coach then I may as well stay put because I had all that here already. That wouldn't have been the change I was looking for."?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Football Writers pull some sort of lifetime achievement award out their collective arses
You mean similar to how they gave Giggs the footballer of the year award despite him not being the deserving winner of it or...?

Then why is he coming out with this now?!

And you're right, Giggs' footballer of the year was nothing more then a token gesture for his achievements. Someone else should have won it

And sorry, the utter shite I've wrote to belittle him?? Do one! I said he was shocking against us! How does that belittle him exactly?! I said he had a terrible game against us....But, obviously Stevie Me never has a bad game and is Roy of the bloody rovers and embodies the spirit of the culture club!....Christ!

And you've some cheek saying that to me, when you're on a United forum, as a Liverpool fan, spouting bollix about United.

He's like that ex-gf I've never had who calls you after you break up with her and moans to the phone name of her new boyfriend screaming that if you fecked her two times more a week she would've still been with you but since you didn't she broke up with you.

Except that Gerrard is still in this relationship.

Think it's a mistake by Liverpool. Of course he's nowhere near what he was, but he's pretty much the only big figure in that dressing room. There's continuity to be lost there. They could have offered him a contract and his performances would have dictated how much game time he was going to get. But I think the way they've dealt with it lacks class. And I don't blame him for going to the US. He can still be viewed as having only played for one club, he's going to the retirement home for an indian summer. He's already got the name for the US market in Stevie G.

Annoyed me over the years but a remarkable midfielder in his prime.

He'll be seen as having played for two clubs, nothing less.

How can you be viewed as "having only played for one club" when you've played for two ?
Do agree that Liverpool are making a mistake though, he can still make his mark and could have a pivotal role if used at the right times.
One club and one man you can count on to make a hysterical bollox of it all though.

What the feck has that got to do with this discussion? To be fair, you are trying to discredit Gerrard in almost all of your posts, trying to prove it's all about him and even saying he's doing Rodgers over while Gerrard himself has stated the exact opposite in every single interview he's given since his announcement. Try to see this in an objective way, and let "what you really think of Gerrard" not get in the way, please.

On topic: sources say an 18 month, £76K per week deal will be confirmed later this week.

Moment !! We've six months of this shite.
My money's on a last minute U turn after leading Liverpool to top 6 glory.
I know I know....Dreading the Sky montages.....

But, considering grown men are saying, "I haven't slept properly since the news broke" on Liverpool forums, just let them have it.

As I said before, Robbo didn't even get this kind of send off or anything of the kind. Then again, he went out a winner so...

In fairness, if Robson had retired in the time of 24 hour news channels then he probably would have.

They're a sentimental set of twats, the montages, the tributes, the emotional turmoil his 'retirement' :houllier: will cause. Everything the pundits and journalists throw at it, they will lap it up and those in the media know it.
Slap on a Gerrard tribute and they know the plucky scousers will give ratings a boost, papers will sell, every story of his iron will and tear stained copies of the echo will stack up on coffee tables across Merseyside as the legend orbits just above legend.

It's been different for us, we've been busy enjoying success and the retirements have been an emotional blow, but we have seen how the strength of Ferguson deals with such partings. Were just not as susceptible to the media ramblings, and they know it.

They are the strangest bunch I've ever come across.
Don't get me wrong, I am a sentimental tosser but, Jesus Christ they are off the chart.

You just know, the United game at Anfield, Sky will be all over it.

Football is a place rammed with sentiment but when it comes to success, it's just business :)
They haven't caught on yet and it's not looking like they will, anytime soon, certainly not with bullshit man at the helm.
Let's hope Stevie cometh in a similar manner to his no show at Old Trafford and he just might. He's shown the club great loyalty in being forced to stay and now he's gone to shite they won't even offer him a new contract.

Alright alright, factually speaking he'll play for two clubs. If Becks hadn't had like a 100 loan spells in Europe during his time "in" the US, I'd have felt like he had retired. That's all.

Love them talking about him lifting the Europa league as a parting image. I can't see them getting past the next round let alone getting to the final and winning it.

Our chances of winning it are very slim but we've always got a chance in the elimination rounds, you never know ;) I'd rather we win the FA Cup on his birthday.
