Manchester United under 21s dropped in to meet youngsters at a special school

Manchester United aces showed off their skills on a visit to a special school.

Rafael da Silva and Andreas Pereira joined the club’s under 21s squad on a trip to Kingfisher Community Special School in Chadderton.

Players chatted to pupils for about an hour and a half and even joined them for a kick-about in the playground.

Michael Unsworth, business director at the Foxdenton Lane school, said: “It was fantastic.

“We weren’t sure how many of the lads were going to come down and how long they were going to be with us for.

“There were about 16 in total along with the coach, Warren Joyce, who is an Oldham lad.

“Our kids really love having visitors and they went around all the classes, met all the children and even played football with them.

“They really interacted well with them and were immaculately behaved, a real credit to the club.”

That's just mental. Our best right-back playing for the u21s (full time, apparently)... I like LvG, but this is one of the things that irritates me most about his tenure so far.

Edit: Fair play to the squad though, seems like a great cause.

Good signing for the u21s.

Joe looks quite sad in that first picture. Probably to do with his trackies shrinking in the wash and not being able to find any socks.

While I'm filthy with the way van Gaal has treated Rafael this season, I wouldn't put any 'official' label on anything like this. Amazing how he can keep that smile though, obviously still loves the club and wants his fortunes to turn around

Really hope he keeps his head down and tries to change LvGs impression. Love this guy. But somehow that seems impossible. Complete injustice happening to him. Who can be surprised if he's sold this summer

These are only pics and say nothing more but tbh Rafael will be sold. Him leaving will be another sign of LVG's stupidity.
Has he been fit for awhile now? Rafael has such a great attitude. He comes across as the last player you'd want to freeze out.

Strange, and probably not a good sign for Rafael fans. Just another idiotic decision by van Gaal though.

Could well be Rafael's own wish to join the lads for this event. I do not believe for a second that he has been completely frozen out of the senior squad.

fecking hate LvG for his treatment of Rafael.

Gives everything on the pitch for us, is by far our best RB.

it's stupid decisions like this that are going to cost us 4th place, and LvG his job

Nope it's decision like this that need to be taken! We need better than Rafael who is ropey at defending constantly switching off! A real fan favourite I agree but for a club like United we can't rely on a player who Ms injury record is this shocking when in reality he's not that special. Get rid and buy better!

So Valencia and McNair should be played ahead of him?

Jettison flair players like Rafael, Nani and Mata.

Embrace limited footballers like Valencia, Young and Fellaini.

Philosophy.

Hopefully Rafael realizes that LVG won't be here for long and endures the next few months.

Every manager has a player/players where it doesn't matter how good they are or what they do they might as well be dead as far as the manager is concerned.

Moyes, Wenger, Redknapp, Fergie, Pulis are some of the worst culprits.

I'd suggest there's an attitude problem or something similar behind the scenes.

He's been just as injured as the other defenders so I can't imagine that having an affect.

I refuse to believe Valencia is a better option than him, even with LvG's need for defensively solid full backs.

It's bizarre either way, he's always been a brilliant attacking threat and a very good defender a lot of the time, albeit error prone and sloppy.

But he does play for the U21s and not the first team...for absolutely no reason...every single week.

So the answer is to play a winger or a centre back ahead of him? Valencia of course proved how to keep his concentration against Arsenal didn't he? He might not be the answer for LVG (disagree by the way) but he is by far the best right back we have and he should be played until a replacement can be brought in, its ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

This, basically. Is he a better right back than Valencia? Yes, but since 2008 he's made more than 30 appearances once in 6 seasons. Valencia for all his faults has done a decent job most of this season and has very good injury record. He's been fit since the turn of the year so people are questioning why van Gaal's not picking him but it's seems he's had enough of his injuries and we'll be buying a new right back in the summer.

Which could explain why Rafael hasn't lost hope. I do think we should be looking at a RB because Rafael's fitness record is dodgy, but playing Valencia at RB when Rafael is fit is insane, and fits well with Rooney in CM, Di Maria on the right and Fellaini up front and benching Mata.

Too bad if LvG's revolution will not only fail to reach the top 4 but will drive DDG out of the club as a result.
