One of the clearest dives you will see all season. On a slightly unrelated note towards the end of the game before this incident there was another incident when Ivanovic got a free kick when it seemed from our angle that Blackett hadn't touched him at all (Blackett seemed pretty angry about that) anyone else saw that incident?

Definate dive. Very similar to what Young did at Old Trafford few years back to win a penalty.

Was a dive imo, he purposely stuck his leg out so it would get caught and i don't blame Cahill for his reaction either, was a sh!t thing to do.

Dive - of sorts.

He engineers the foul, if you will. Which is basically cheating – so it was a fair call for my money.

Its a funny old game
Dive. Although lets face it. 9 out of 10 players these days will go for the penalty in that situation. You've all seen it happen and a lot of the time the penalty is given. Its not seen as cheating on the continent, its seen as being clever. Having said that I don't agree with trying to con the ref.

Could have been given, he obviously went for it but there was contact. Even the pundits here in Sweden disagreed, some thought it was a penalty and some a dive. I think it's a perspective thing but I definitely don't think we can be too upset that it wasn't given.

I have the same opinion about most handballs. I am actually of the opinion that most shouldn't be given as they appear more ball to hand than hand to ball. Seen these type of things given, but not surprised it wasn't.

Stone cold dive. Not even sure how there's an argument otherwise really.

It probably was, but Chelsea won by scoring a goal that contained an element of cheating, they got away with it, we didn't. He won't do it again, I am sure.
That wasn't cheating. That was a referring mistake (Chelsea's goal).

He created the foul by running into Cahill. It's not exactly a dive - but it was def no penalty

If you foul someone to gain advantage it is still cheating if you get away with it. Ander's would have been a refereeing error if it had been given. It wasn't. We got done by bad refereeing, Chelsea benefited from good refereeing. I am not going to ostracise the lad for what he did. We were desperate because our forwards could have played all day and not scored. It has happened before and it will happen again. We will suffer for it and at times benefit from it.

Tried to con the ref by leaving his leg dangling. Never a pen, but in real time I thought it was.

If he created it then surely it's not a foul? You can hardly say Cahill fouled him by allowing him to randomly clatter off him.

I bet if you watched most penalties in slow motion you could find a good reason why they shouldn't have been given. The old, he went down too easily there stuff. The only ones that are definite are defenders knocking the ball over the crossbar with their hands.

Same, I was in the middle of a proper hissy fit until I saw the replay. Very convincing dive, the ref did well not to give it.

Dive. "He played for it" as they say, rather than one of those where they dive over thin air. Not that it makes a difference, but the latter ones tend to look incredibly embarrassing on slow-mo replays.

It looked clumsy as feck from Cahill in real time though.

I still would have loved for it to have been given, and scored, just to reintroduce Mourinho's tinfoil-hat.

He put his leg out to create the contact. I'm really not sure how anyone can try to argue it's not a dive, it's really blatant.

Didnt Malouda do pretty much the same to Smalling a few years ago and get a pen?

Didn't Van Gaal say after the game it was a definite penalty? Our Belgian pundits mentioned something about it. If so, that's a silly thing to do. Just admit it was a dive and get on with it.
Not sure what he said in the press conference after, but in the post match interview he dodged the question and said "if we are talking about the referee, then what about the foul on Falcao for their goal?" or something along those lines. Didn't say anything about the penalty.

To be honest I haven't been able to find an angle that proves whether it's "both" or "dive". Herrera moves his foot towards Cahill, but I can't tell whether there would have been contact even if he hadn't.

Bit of both. Herrera knew the contact was coming, so he left his leg trailing a bit.

Yep that's what I heard as well. He's got a point though.
