I think it would be good to set up a long-term draft ahead of next season based on current players.

So, say, 20 Caf members pick a squad and then play home and away fixtures over the course of a season with results being decided by vote. Players are judged on current form and levels of ability.

The game would then continue for a second season so there would be long-term reward for choosing players with potential.

The bottom 3 clubs at the end of the season are relegated and 3 new managers join, choosing a squad from all remaining available players.

Any managers that lose interest can be replaced, with the new manager inheriting their current squad.

A mid-season transfer window in which each club may trade 3 of their players.

Injuries suffered in real life would make players unavailable for selection.
We did something pretty much exactly like that.

No one bothered to check back after the first couple of weeks.

Many good ideas out there..

I just find it a bit awkward to pick players from before my time.. There are limited video footage and usually it is their best moments.. I like to know how good a player was even if he was below par.. Anyone can be made to look world class if a montage is put together

@harms thanks mate

Yeah, don't get yourself banned on the way to redcafe fantasy draft domination. It's not worth it.

Of course! If we have too many managers interested in the end we will see what we do, usually a few decide they're busy/want to AM and if we still have too many we will make a random draw for the spots.

Thank you for your kindness mate.

all seemed to support the Current Premiership Draft idea I floated. How about it, whoever is selfless enough to run the next one?
In that idea you mean you pick players currently playing in the Premier League? Will there be some sort of criteria?

Current players based on current form. I was thinking 20 owners would draft a whole squad (someone suggested 2 at a time picks once we get to the bench to save time) and then vote a league table instead of a tournament.

The idea would be to draft a squad to win the league, so if you draft an injury-prone player you better have a strong backup or plan B there.

I think we'd see proper tactical variation since you can't just chuck out 11 great players, but instead need to fit 3-4 starters that aren't even in the best 150 players in the Premiership.

I didn't even vote on the all-time Euros draft since I felt so unqualified. But evaluating a central midfield pairing of say Shelvey-Coquelin is something I think we all feel pretty capable of.

I like that idea... for once it isn't the best players in the world and you really have to think about players you compliment each other etc

We should do this during the transfer window so people can try to draft based on transfer rumours, obviously if they draft someone who ends up not playing in the PL, they'll just lose a squad place.

No matches. Everyone just ranks the team from 1-20. We could draw a cup for the 16 best teams too.
You want to do that each week?

That doesn't sound like a great idea, most people won't change their rankings much and players don't get injured that easily.

Sounds good. Risky to draft someone like Depay who might sign for the PL and risky to draft De Gea knowing he might leave.

No. Just one ranking (per voter) for the league that determines the winner. Really, the goal would be to build the best team on paper; The one that the betting lines would have as favorites to top the league, in essence, like Chelsea and Man City were before the start of this year.

A cup on the side to sort of mirror the FA Cup could be fun too.

I'll add that I sort of envision teams writing out how they want to play over the season for the write up, since you may have 2 (or 3) main lineups you would expect to use with one for home/easier games and one for tougher ones (maybe dropping a 2nd striker for a 3rd CM, for instance).

That makes it quite difficult for voters to decide, team A v team B most people will have a good idea who'd win. Team 1-20 and a lot of squads will be of similar strength...

@NoPace i like the first part of the draft much more, research and building teams so i would enjoy it but there are people who like the second part more, debate in matches so dont think they would be up for this kind of game.

Can we not do a relatively simple draft for a change?

What about a free draft for everyone born on or after June 25, 1987? We did this years ago and we can compare how things turned out...

we could do a premiership draft but with limited number of players from top 4 or something like that....

Good point. How about voting 2 rounds:

Round 1 - Sort the 20 teams into 4 tiers of 5, as in a top 5 (Title Contenders) 5-10 (Europa League) 10-15 (Safety) 15-20 (Relegation candidates).

Round 2 - One thread for each tier to be voted on. Will people ignore the middle 2? Yep. Just like the Prem!

Just to clarify, this sort of ranking thing is usually done among draft managers. That is, you are not looking at starting a thread or poll but instead you will have all managers submitting a PM with their ordering, right?

If so, what's the point of Round 2? If it is about running them as polls I don't see that working.

TBH, the few drafts I've seen that get settled that way are quite underwhelming. All that time dedicated to drafting only for it all to be over in 24 hours that it takes to get and collate all PMs. It's basically as exciting as the first round draw, only that it all finishes after it.

The Premiership player one sounds interesting. Almost with an element of a sheep draft there since there will be so many players at a "lower" level than usually used in drafts.

What draft format do you prefer? I've only played sheep and snake, not tried auction yet. Are there more? I feel the snake one is better for shaping the team but i think i prefer the sheep concept. Felt more challenging and i enjoyed the anticipation before the picks were revealed.

I miss the sheep drafts. They are by far the most fun IMO

What do you guys think of a Chain draft?

1st pick is open.
2nd pick can only be a player who has played with 1st pick.
3rd pick will be a player who has played with the 2nd pick and so on.

With a 3 players/nation limit, this should be interesting.

I like it but would prefer it to be an auction draft to allow for more planning.
