That's true, but I'd rather play with two strikers (a new striker and a fully fit Sturridge although I know that's wishful thinking). If we play a 4-3-3 with said midfield, there's indeed a lack of creativity... Both Henderson and Milner are very good passers and make intelligent runs behind the defence though, so maybe it could work. I don't think Can is ready for the holding rol in midfield either, but I hope he gets played in midfield at least because it's clear as day he isn't a defender.

I actually think it's a good signing for them. He's better than any wide player they currently have, bar Sterling, and they're getting him for free. He also adds experience to the squad.
I don't really get why he has signed for them. Taking a step down for a few extra grand a month?

Good signing IMO. Milner is underrated and I think playing a bigger role will benefit both him and Liverpool.
He's a decent squad player, but Liverpool will really need to do better than his level in regards to first team signings. Shopping in City's junkyard isn't going to get you into the top four.

Pretty good signing for them, but I have to say I'm happier seeing them bring in someone like Milner to replace Gerrard than some of the unknown quantities but possibly better players that they've been linked to in Midfield such as Kovacic, Pjanic, etc.

Free transfer though, Milner gets to absorb a lot of the fee into his wages.
Nani is rumoured to be going for £7m. That is because his wages are far higher than any buying club are willing to pay him so we have to give a discounted fee so the buying club can pay his wage.
If Nani was coming to England for the first time after the season he had in Portugal this year the fee would be £25-30m.
I think it gets to the point is more expensive to find a replacement and pay transfer fee. Especially as he's English and they now need ANOTHER homegrown player.
Don't know why people think he will be a wide player for Liverpool, he wanted to play more central and have more games, hence the step down to Liverpool.

Decent enough for them. But if Liverpool have any ambitions on re-establishing themselves in the top four, then it's going to take a lot more than Milner.

I think they bought him for Centre Midfield. Wanting to play more centrally was one of the main reasons he rejected the City contract. However, the moment the bad results start coming him I can imagine Rodgers will start sticking him at at LB, RB, RW, LW, Striker and probably Goalkeeper

He's a player you'd want in your team but surely Liverpool should be focusing on world class additions that will light them up enough to get them top 4? As we saw last season with them signing over 100mil of squad players, it ain't going to get you champions league football.

Since the competition for top 4 increased, they were forced to sign big players to keep their spot there, signing the likes of Ozil/Sanchez has done that for them. Read yesterday that he appeared in the majority of City's matches this past season. Maybe he just wanted to feel more important and valued rather than being under appreciated and surrounded by superstars.
He had a couple of months of good form this season, which is an upturn from the mediocrity of previous seasons. I dont think he's an improvement on what Liverpool have in CM and he'll probably find himself playing wingback again at some point

Problem is that Liverpool at this stage are some sort of “project” at best. They're not in the CL next season. And while they have money, they don't have nearly as much as certain others. So, how are they going to realistically land those top shelf players they need in order to catch up to Chelsea, City, Arsenal and United?
Not easy. Per now all they can do is buy wisely, really. Milner is a decent move for them in that sense. He's a safe buy, unlike the likes of Balotelli and a load of youngsters who can go either way.
I don't rate Milner at all but he's probably found his level now.
It's not 'really shrewd', it's a pretty obvious move for them as he's in the range of player they can realistically go for. And they're paying him huge wages.
