We all knew this was the case, but it's still quite sad. He's more than good enough to play for United, but injuries got the better of him.

He was 3rd choice RB at this stage. Such a shame and I can see him leaving and being injury free as well

I read that as "Real" officially for sale and thought we could buy them so they stop buying our players.

He's a great lad. If there's one player leaving us you feel like getting behind it's Rafael. He never once went out on the pitch with the red shirt on and left anything out there and that attitude is to his credit.

But we can't carry the wounded, and the time is right to move on. If he can get over the injuries then his next team have a cracking player on their hands. Good luck to him.

He was good for one season and good in patches in some of the other seasons but ultimately has not delivered on his promise. Very injury prone as well.

Considering his brother who was at similar level in 2010-11 is currently a squad player for Cardiff in Championship I hope Rafael can do a little better for himself.

Unless he's on big wages? I don't see the point selling him.

On the contrary to all the popular opinions, may I offer to drive Rafael to his next club please just to make sure he goes. Biggest liability to wear a United shirt in the last 10 years. I usually refer to him as a walking red card nowadays, just bracing myself for the bad decisions he makes a living out of. Hopefully in Darmian we will see a much more responsible player.

About time this became official (not like it was the clubs worst kept secret or anything). At least some on here can move on from him and stop fooling themselves thinking he will be here next season. I like him but ultimately he's not reliable due to chronic injury issues and LvG obviously doesn't rate him.

Sad to see him go. Really wanted to see him and his brother play a crucial role in the United team. Good luck to him and thanks.

Dont know how to feel about this, but looking at most of the comments on this thread i should apparently be sad.

Considering he has 1 year left on his contract and with our selling track record I can't imagine us getting any more than £5m unfortunately.

Gutted that he's leaving, one of my favourite players and a great right back when he's fit but of course we all know how rare that has become - wish him well

He's not worth more than £5m all things considered now anyway. Was a £20m player three years ago mind.

It isn't to do with wages, he's been told he's surplus and that's that. If he stayed here, when is he going to get a game? Darmian's been bought as first choice and Valencia is clearly favoured by van Gaal and won't mind playing as a backup/utility player.

It's disappointing of course to see him go after looking like he could make the step up in 2012/13 but I can't honestly believe that anyone's surprised by this, it's been on the cards for a while.

Apart his injuries he became one of the best performers and most consistent.. I was always proud of him wearing the red jersey. It's a big shame I think he should have another preseason with the team to fight for his place, he's still much better and proven than Darmian and yeah he is also younger.. Good luck wherever you end Rafa..

Be interesting where he ends up. Probably won't be a big club.

Good thing for him and the club. He needs to go somewhere else and see if he can overcome his injury issues, club needs to free up the wages. Could have been a good player if he had stayed free of injuries, but he was such a crock for most of his United career.
