Who was the most exciting signing we ever made?

Who made you think "Feck me!" when it was announced?

For me, it was Veron. Obviously it didn't work out, but he was easily the most exciting signing I can remember.

Di Maria. Nor did that work out.

There's a running theme already.

Van Persie, I didn't think in my wildest dreams that we'd get Arsenal's captain right after his best ever season.

Veron for me as well. I watched him a lot for Lazio during their Galactico era and he was incredible, one of the best players in the world at that time. His technique and passing was ridiculously good and I could hardly believe it when we signed him.

Shame how it never worked out.

Veron for me.
However the first time Ronaldo played for us was probably the most excited I have ever been when seeing a player in a Utd shirt for their first game. I thought at the time we have signed a player who is going to be a superstar.

RVP was good. I also loved the Tevez one if that counts, I was in France and trying to get news in French papers ( I was 15 with no internet access so it was tough going!) dragged it out. Delighted when I got home and saw it on the news.

Berbatov was probably the most fun deadline day. I wasn't that excited about Falcao because I was worried about his injuries.

Rooney has to be up there, looked like a ridiculous talent at the time (and hat-trick in his first game helped).

From the more recent ones - believe me or not, De Gea - I loved him for Atletico and was hoping that we would went for him.

The day we signed RVP gave me a huge boost of optimism and excitement - as I'm sure it did for millions of United fans.

What a season that was.

Veron, for obvious reason. English teams just didn't buy a Serie A star at that time.

And Mata was my 2nd. We'd never had a real world class AMC under Fergie. So it was very exciting to get (at the time) one of the best.

For the 3rd, believe it or not, it was Hargreaves, as he's back from THAT WC performance.

Rooney filled the 18 year old me with so much hope. With him and Ronaldo it really felt like a lot of great years were ahead of us.

Van Persie just felt so strange, probably our most unbelievable transfer.

Falcao was a shock but a lot of people on here grounded me quite quickly with fears of his injuries and form. I remained optimistic but in the back of my mind I knew it unlikely to work out well.

Schweinsteiger or RVP - either.

But, the most excited I ever got about a new signing after it was announced was when Ronaldo made his first sub appearance!

Ronaldo - i saw THAT game and i wanted him to join us so much.

Van Persie - as i didnt think we could pull out such a trick

Belive it or not...,Schneiderlin. Beacuse he is something we were missing for a while.

My emition to out going transfers are usually much stronger there. I was angry as feck when we sold Becks.

In recent years, I'd say: Veron, Rio, Rooney, Ronaldo, RVP, Di Maria, Falcao.

RVP - no other signing reached the same level of :houllier: that that one did, especially after the years of "value" that had left us all so starved.

Though I did legit start giggling like a mental patient when we scored within minutes at Anfield of Berbatov's first game for us when he set-up Tevez - I truly thought we had the greatest side ever and Ronaldo wasn't even on the pitch, and then 90 minutes later we'd lost the game

Rooney and RVP, one as at the time he was potentially England's best ever. RVP because he was absolutely ripping the Premier League to shreds and appeared to be over his injury problems.

Di Maria and Falcao for obvious reasons, but the theme with exotic foreign big names is that they just don't seem to work out.

My last one has to go to VdS though. At the time it was originally reported at £2m (I don't believe that is true for one minute). And I couldn't get over the fact he spent so long at Fulham despite constantly being a great keeper in the PL.

Nani/Anderson double swoop. 2 of the most talented kids in Europe and we nabbed them in one go. This adding to the established talents of the still young Ronaldo and Rooney.

Rooney and Ronaldo excited the pants off me. We had the best two youngsters in the world.

Barthez excited me too though :nervous: thought we finally had the solution.

Has to be Rooney really. Absolutely fantastic in the Euros which got the juices flowing and then he goes on to score a hattrick on debut!

With Ronaldo I'd had never seen him play so it was more curiosity more than anything else when we got him.

Is there anything more exciting for a fan than waking up and a new signing has been announced officially while you slept - a World Cup finalist!
