We need a backup striker, otherwise we are going to be in exactly the same position as last season with RvP/Falcao and then Rooney playing in midfield. Let's see if Wayne can actually score goals, have a good young backup. A wide man like Pedro who can provide goals along with Memphis/Mata/Herrera. I won't say Young as he doesn't score.

We need a top draw forward. Rooney gets injured or goes through shite form, we are in massive trouble.

Personally I would have a front 3 of Rooney, CF, Depay, there isn't really need for Pedro if we use Rooney as a wide forward - something he has done numerous times.

It's worrying that we just over a week to go, we need at least 2 players of significant quality (3 if / when DDG goes). After such a positive few weeks, it is all feeling very much like last year all over again. Looking forward to (if / when) we get these players, hearing the same line of "We are a few weeks behind, these players need to learn our philosophy".

Same mistakes are being made, Blind at CB is a stupid call - so much for getting the squad sorted early, still glaring issues throughout the team.

Whats happened to Hummels, really thought with Klopp gone Borrusia might have been taken apart this summer.

Winger. And a centre back to play beside Blind. Yes Blind. From what I've seen so far I'd rather have him in there than Jones (erratic & terrible positioning) and Smalling (horrible touch and distribution that gets the team into trouble all to often).

Soooo.. If de gea inevitably leaves in the next few weeks, who do we have lined up?
With Valdes out of favour I don't want to see us starting with Romero. :(

If Di Maria goes, our net spending this window would be around 20m.. and we would have saved a further 300-400k/week in wages on top of that

Should have plenty of money to throw around in the next few weeks... Bring on the galacticos.

Stones (even let Jones go if it reduces the fee drastically), Kane and (one day) Bale

Priority for me is winger, CB, striker.

If DDG goes it's GK, winger, CB, striker.

Given Memphis seems set to play central and we know Rooney will be ever present, plus the returning Hernandez and Januzaj as back-ups, I don't think we will buy a striker, dangerous though that call might be.

With Memphis playing centrally and Adnan looking better centrally as well I think along with Pedro we should try and get another goal scoring wide player in to bolster the Rooney and Memphis central attack, maybe activate Griezmann's buyout clause.

A CB is an absolutely priority I think, we can't be using Blind and can't trust Jones. Personally I think we should be all about Stones but if LvG must have a leftie to partner Smalling and compete with Rojo then Laporte is the obvious choice.

We shouldn't need a keeper as we should not let De Gea go at any cost now.

If a choice was made: sign a CB or a ST, what would you choose?
On principe, CB.

Obviously that might change if it is Ronaldo or whatever CB; or if it is Muller or Stones.

But assuming realistic targets like Lacazzete or Otamendi/Laporte/Stones, I would go with the CB position.

Centre Back. What we have won't be good enough. Especially if De Gea goes.

Full month to find quality. It's enough time but looks like we're patiently after the same names we always were. If nothing changes on that front we'll have to make a slightly new approach which may happen even next week for all we know.

Everyone pretty much know already what we need but apart hearing the same names like Muller, Ramos, Bale and Pedro wouldn't be great to also get some talented but less known youngster who will inject the needed energy into the mix of new players ? We may also need that as much as big names.

When it comes to defenders it's hard to spot one with superior ball control these days however any solid defender on international level would be a strengthening and raise of healthy squad competition.

probably waiting for De Gea and Di Maria to leave before we see a GK and Pedro come in....

after that a CB and Striker would be very useful

Well think Di Maria to PSG and DDG to Real, probably Valdes and maybay Rafael may leave after that aswell.

We'll bring in Pedro and a new Goalkeeper and I got a feeling that will be it for us this summer.

LVG will see Blind as a new centreback and continue with Rojo, Smalling, Jones, Evans and Mcnair as the other ones. For the striker Rooney will a 100% play upfront and Hernandez will be kept on as back-up together with Wilson. So I'am afraid we won't be seeing a new striker and centreback.

Don't like that at all but seems like it is going to be the case.

GK - Cillessen
CB - Stones
AM - Pedro
CF - Kane/Cavani/Muller/Ronaldo

Yeh I went increasingly muppet. I think we'll bag pedro after the ADM deal is done.

IF DDG leaves we'll go Cillessen.

Stones may be a struggle and I can see us going into the season without another CB if too much is asked for.

Striker wise I could also see us heading into the season without another and just using Rooney/Depay/Pedro/Wilson around that area. But after whats been said you'd think a big name is being planned. I actually think Kane would thrive here, his finishing is sublime.

Id actually be happy just getting Pedro. Romero/Darmien/Morgan/Bastian/Depay/Pedro in one window is bloody lovely. Anything else added on is just ballticklingly sensational.

I've got a strange feeling that we aren't making another signing. Maybe Pedro but that'll be it.

We still need a decent CB and a decent striker to be challenging this year. Yet it's really quiet at the moment.

That's what I am thinking.
For various reasons, our fans over the last 2 years, have gone to the extreme of basically wanting the entire team to be replaced with new players...just for the heck of it. BUY BUY BUY! I just dont think that buying an entire brand new team is the way to be successful in football.
And buying new players on Sept 1st is not ideal for any team wanting to get the best possible results. If this is our plan, then basically we are going to have to write-off this season, too.
I think the squad we have in 1 week, will be the squad we keep for the entire season.
I'm not expecting any more additions/departures except for Di Maria/Pedro.

If we finish outside the top 3 again (which we will if we continue to buy new players, who don't perform immediately), LVG will probably get the sack; and the excuse of "the players are still gelling", won't work.

We've already signed 5 new players. If we really upgrade all the needed positions that would be another GK, CB, winger and ST coming in. That's 9 new signings and too much imo. I hope we compromise on at least one position to have a bit of continuety so we won't be bedding in just about a new XI.

My guess is that we'll see 1 or 2 but tops 3 more signings. Reckon a winger is guaranteed and the others may happen.

I agree in part it's not a good thing to go out and buy a whole new starting 11 but the thing is we need to our squad is actually quite bad compared to arsenal, chelsea and City.

We've spent £200 million thereabouts and we don't really have anything to show for it apart from a much weaker squad than our nearest rivals, I think we will fight for third this year, with our current squad and the way LVG is messing around (blind at CB, Depay at 10) there's no chance of us finishing top.

If rooney gets injured then we've havent got anyone good enough to fill in for him and score our goals, at the back if smalling gets injured we could be looking at a Jones-blind, rojo-blind, Jones-rojo partnership which is quite possibly the worst in the top 10. If Shaw gets injured we could be looking at Blackett playing there.

It's funny because our midfield has been awful for years and years but now we are absolutely stacked with quality in those postions, we probably now have the best midfield in the league but our attack and defence is so ridiculously weak it'll be our downfall this season.

Starting to wonder what we're playing at. OK, we've made some good signings but...

Season a week away

Striker position is woefully short
CBs not good enough
Not enough creativity in AM

I am talking if we want to challenge for top honours.

If our aim is to consolidate top 4 then we're good.

Striker: Hernandez
CB: de Vrij
Gk: Cillessen
Rw: Pèdroe

Job done.

Not sure if anyone has said so but how about a cheeky 10m punt on Charlie Austin? Cheap and scores goals would be a good squad player.
That'd be fine by me, classic number 9 would probably suit our system. I'd imagine he'd be more than happy with playing second fiddle as well.

Yeah I think it's been said, I would definitely be okay with it. Scored 18 league goals for a crap QPR side.

Assuming Pedro is a done deal, can we really complain with an offseason haul of Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Depay, Pedro, Darmian and Romero? If we hold on to De Gea for another season, I'll be very happy with that. Sure we could still use help at CB and Striker, but I think Rooney is good for at least another season, hopefully backed up by Hernandez and Wilson/Januzaj, while any two of Rojo, Jones and Smalling should be good enough (not ideal, but good enough.) I just hope Van Gaal doesn't persist with Blind at CB.

Unless Rojo does a Smalling, it isn't good enough. And even then, it would still be weaker than any of the top 4 central defenses (let alone compared with other European teams).

I prefer Hernandez to him. I think that we are fine in attack if we want to play with one striker.

If Rooney fails, then next season we need to upgrade that position, but that is something to think one year from now.

Is there any chance, in the name of Cantona, we will buy a bloody much-needed CB in the next six days?!
