It's really not for me.

The majority of our issues last season came when Rooney, Blind or Herrera were shielding the back four.

We now have Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Carrick. In terms of goals conceded we weren't actually that bad last year once you get past the freak of Leicester. With Darmian I expect that to improve further.

I can only see Smalling and Jones improving while I think Rojo, at CB, is better than people give him credit for.
I do fully understand your point but our current centre backs are always injured and for that reason alone can't be relied upon . We need to get shut of evans and bring in an experienced replacement to play alongside smalling .
If the club think that they can go with smalling jones rojo and Evans again this time around (after last seasons injury record) then that's suicidal .
People keep waffling on about "getting better""improving" and the like but we need players that we can rely upon and unfortunately our current crop of centre halfs do not meet that criteria.

Why are you so bothered about what we spend Jonny?

Who gives a monkey's man - aslong as we get the best possible players in, this window, is all we should be concerned about.

United can spend £300m on top-class players & i'd be delighted - aint my money & we've just started our new record Addida kit deal, so i want us to be spending a shitload on the best players & not hearing fans commenting in being proud of a very reasonable net spend, when the team is still lacking in major areas that are key to our goal of being the best in England & in Europe..

No offence intended btw
None taken, I'm not fussed about the spend personally. If we spent £300m I'd trust that the club knew it could spend it but it was more a comment on whether we could realistically hope the club would spend that. I don't think they would spend £300m but £100m-ish is realistic.

Are we actually going to sign anyone else? Even Pedro rumours have gone quiet.

I'll be so disappointed if we don't make a new signing we still need a couple, I really don't want to be signing players when the season is underway.

There's no way LVG will go into September with no new CB and CF. he isn't stupid, Rooney get injured at some point every season and Wilson isn't PL standard yet. Our CBs while being decent while fully fit also can't be replied upon due to injuries.
I think we'll make 3 more signings Pedro, a CF and a CB.
Also DDG leaving this summer think he'll put trust in Romero.

I cant believe we havent signed a centre back, the mind boggles really. Surely LvG has seen the injury record of Smalling and Jones. Blind is not a real CB and Rojo is just okay. I am fully aware that top CBs are extremely rare but we should be at least looking for an option what happened to prioritizing targets in every position?

The fact that we haven't been able to field a consistent back four has hurt us more than the quality of our defenders itself. We need a Terry.

A CB, a RW & a striker.

It looks like the winger will be Pedro. I can't see us signing a striker but I'm hoping we get a centre-back.

Ideally I think we need a world class winger to replace Di Maria but Pedro will have to do for now.

Obviously we're not getting Bale etc so I'd love to see Stones and Berahino come in once Pedro is sealed. I don't think there's much available world class talent out there that can be snapped up even for insane money. Berahino would give us more options and a lot more pace up front until Januzaj is ready after a couple of loans in a year or two....Stones looks like he is going to be rock solid and so far he doesn't look like a sick-note like all of our other central defenders..he'll likely become a top top defender

Two days before the start of competition the team should be ready and all players signed , especially when almost everyone believes that there are positions to improve. If there are new players they´ll need weeks to get ready and some positions, as CB need a lot of work with team mates to get a good understanding.

Don't see why we haven't made a play for stones. We've got some assets we can shift to Everton as a part deal that they'll probably like(Jones and Evans) yet for some reason we don't seem to be making any major moves. We aren't getting a defender of Stones' quality for any cheaper than he is.

Lovely principle but how often does this happen exactly?

I can't believe for the THIRD season in a row, there are glaring holes and issues with the squad. We have had a year and a half to scout a decent CB, yet tomorrow we will likely see Blind playing there. We sorted the midfield, now look desperately short of a striker, I thought this year would be different.

Fecking useless.

If you guys want to challenge for the title, you need a top quality CB. To think you used to boast Ferdinand and Vidic.... now Blind and Jones?

Add in someone like Bale (not going to happen sadly) then you can do it. Also not sure Depay should be playing where he is, but hopefull;y he flourishes.

if we ignore the keeper situation, the CB situation, losing pace and creativity from Di Maria, and the bare bones if Rooney gets a knock then .

erm

we're well set

LvG has confirmed he wants two more and it is now clear he intends to simply ignore our CB issues which is madness. I am guessing Pedro for the attack and hopefully him and Woody have something up their sleeves for the keeper and it's not Cillessen.

He used a word 'maybe' in that statement. Could be other number than two easily.

Seems like lvg wants Pedro and a gk for when Dave leaves. Absolutely shocking that we have not signed a CB it's just crazy even as cover ffs!

We clearly are not after a CB, I think LVG would have got one by now. Ramos/Hummels are a no go and Otamendi is not worth 50 million euros. Who else is available?

Bale ain't coming and to be honest I can only see Pedro coming in maybe a keeper if De Gea goes.

We're obviously only looking for a ball-playing centre back. That's what LvG likes to have and that's why Blind is playing there now. There really is no one available. Stones and Laporte are decent shouts, at least for the future, but Laporte would cost a huge amount of money (how much is his release clause?) and we doesn't seem to have any interest in Stones. I wouldn't mind Laporte though, he's left footed too so I'm sure LvG likes that..

We need a goalkeeper if De Gea leaves, a winger and I would like to have another top striker too but I doubt we're getting one.

Number 9 still not taken. Perhaps a serious bid for some power striker will balls that even Van Gaal would be proud of in the upcoming weeks ?

We could easily afford Benzema or Zlatan after wage reduction in departures of Falcon & RVP. Surprise us Louie.

Laporte 35m pounds (50m euros), Stones apparently a little bit less.

Yes, Stones is good, but if he is willing to play Blind at LCB then why buy yet another RCB. I think we rush young defenders too much. Think Laporte needs a bit more developing before he moves to a big club. Jones should be a warning.

Would love Zlatan for a few years. I know he's old and all, but he doesn't rely on pace and he's all about his brilliant football IQ, techinical skills and power. Could easily see him doing well for a few more years and then leave for MLS. It's a bit sad he never played in the Premier League as he would be perfect here. Anyway, his relationship with LvG isn't the best supposedly so we can most likely write that off. Real Madrid will not sell Benzema and with Lacazette signing a new contract with Lyon there aren't many options left. Kane would cost too much. Maybe Aubmeyang, Higuain or Griezmann, sadly none of those are probably realistic targets either. Honestly feel that we should've just kept van Persie and Nani for another season.

Decent price, probably worth it in the long run but is he ready for a move to Premier League and make a big (positive) difference for us? I have doubts about that.

I really hope selling RVP won't kick us in our arrogant ass. He wasn't the same football institution when Fergie left his station but we could really use someone who would just sit on opposition's half like a proper sting and keep scoring throughout the season. Zlatan can do this but Premier League tempo could be unforgivable for him at times but yeah... not that much of a choice and not that I don't believe in LVG's scouting skills, perhaps someone young and less known would do this job just perfect.

I don't see us winning anything meaningful with Rooney as the main guy. We've just never done it with Wayne as the main man for one reason or another. Think Ronaldo, Van Persie and hell even Berbatov that season did the business.

Why are we still buggering around with the CB, Otamendi at around 30-35m is business that we need to do, stop messing about and pay the money or else we'll regret it big time. If not then pay the same amount for Laporte, simple as that and this should have been done ages ago. Add Pedro and we're almost there with a surprise signing towards the end of the window.

If LVG thinks we dont need a CB then he'll be in for a big shock..

Shame Vlaar got a big injury just when he was available on a free. He would have been a much more solid back up to Smalling as opposed to Jones or Evans

According to Wiki, he signed a new contract until 2016 with a release clause of €27.5m - makes him an attractive proposition at that price.

Still have to keep in mind he's 21 so you can't expect the world of him.

I can see us taking him in to help him recover in January. Would be good to have in the squad when back to fitness.
