Fecking gutted. When I saw Memphis playing like he did yesterday, I was salivating at the prospect of having a player who can create the same kind of havoc on the opposite flank. With Pedro gone, I really don't know how we can build that 4-man attack capable of hitting from all angles.
Exactly, we could have had two players who are tailor made to actually play as wide forwards, making great runs to support Rooney, Pedro is not a star name but he would have been a shrewd addition and big upgrade to our system.

He plays Mata there because he wants to get him in the team due to his passing, and of what we currently have he's the best option, but he has said through the summer he needs to add pace to the position and wants a player to do that.

Yes, crazy to think we could possibly have simply gotten beaten by another big club willing to stump up the full amount straight away. Like it's somehow inconceivable that we have lost out.
If LVG wanted him, Pedro wanted to come, and Barcelona were okay with selling to us... then yes the idea that we were happy to miss out on him for a couple of million is insane. He has either chosen to go Chelsea, we have another realistic target, or LVG is happy with our wingers.

I can only think that LVG pulled the plug on Pedro because he has Muller lined up.

Pedro is crap anyway; why do you think Barca don't give him a look in.

Massively overrated, in my opinion. If he isn't good enough for Barca, then his isn't good enough for a club like us.
He is a quality player, he is just not as good as Neymar or Suarez. That doesn't make him crap.

As for not being good enough for United because he's not a starter for Barca, I hope you're not serious.

That's just down to Everton being small time and refusing to give the richer club what they want. Stuff like that sickens me.
You would remember that conversation.

Ah well, maybe bid £120 million for Bale or Muller, eh Woodward?

Fecking clown will pay £27 million for Fellaini but won't pay £21 million for Pedro.
We may have overpaid on Felliani but that was down to Moyes not woody. Play felliani has turned out to be a valuable player for us. We didn't get Pedro but we have significantly reinforced our team and Shaw is like a new signing since he was injured most of last season. We have a proper RB in place and I still expect us to challenge for the title. Pedro may prove to be a valuable player for Chelsea but it could have been the Barca team making Pedro look better than he is, clutching at straws but it's conceivable.

You just knew that when Chelsea's name was mentioned he would go there. The Spanish journalist was talking with such confidence.

There is some reason that, despite endless speculation week after week that United haven't signed him up. Strange he is going to Chelsea when they have so many options in that position.

Because it's never happened to us before, where we've haggled and then gotten beaten to a player, come on.

May be "the process" doesn't take as long when Chelsea are involved?

Sad but surely no longer that surprising? Sounds old man-ish but the internet means people spend twice as much time reading transfer gossip than they do actually watching football.
It's crazy. People spend so much time drawing up conclusions and coming up with scenarios off every bloomin' tweet or article.

From the Mail:

Chelsea will sign Pedro from Barcelona on Wednesday in a £21.1million deal.

Manchester United pulled away from the deal on Tuesday night with the 28-year-old Spain international keen on a move to London.

United manager Louis van Gaal and executive vice chairman Ed Woodward held more talks about the move on Monday but decided not to push through their initial interest.

Pedro was understood to be unimpressed by United's pursuit after failing to be convinced that they really wanted him to join.

Manchester City and Chelsea have both been in contact with Barcelona for a number of weeks, however, the Premier League champions moved quickly after a weekend in which Jose Mourinho made it clear he needed improvements to his squad.

The Blues will pay £19million up front to the Catalan giants, an improvement on the £17m offered by United.

The World Cup winner, who will team up with friend Cesc Fabregas at Stamford Bridge, is expected to have a medical on Wednesday afternoon with Chelsea's Spanish doctor Paco Biosca overseeing events.

Sportsmail understands Mourinho personally spoke to Pedro to convince the winger of his worth to his new suitors in order to seal the deal.

Pedro's camp were unaware of United chief Woodward's trip to Barcelona to try to get the deal over the line in what became a breakdown in United's attempt for his signature.

A United source said that the club had decided to end their interest in Pedro and that the decision was made by Van Gaal.

They added: 'Money was never an issue given the buyout clause. If it was clear cut the deal would have been done weeks ago.'

Pedro's arrival will likely trigger the departure of Juan Cuadrado with Juventus waiting in the wings to sign the Colombian. His pace and work-ethic will also add greater protection to a defence that has come under scrutiny in the opening Premier League games.

United were in pole position to sign the World Cup winner after Woodward flew to Barcelona for further talks on Monday.

But Chelsea went toe-to-toe with their Barclays Premier League rivals, with Roman Abramovich particularly keen on signing the player.

Chelsea need to boost their own attacking options before the close of the summer transfer window following a miserable start to the new season.

Mourinho's side were handed a 3-0 drubbing by Manchester City on Sunday after a chastening draw at home against Swansea in their opening game.

Chelsea first had an interest in Pedro earlier in the summer but Mourinho wasn’t sure.

United’s neighbours City were also interested in a deal for Pedro but have made Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin De Bruyne their top target.

Pedro had appeared to be ready to join United for some time and expressed his intentions to quit Barcelona after a trophy-laden 10-year career at the Nou Camp.

But United's prevarication over the fee - Pedro has a £22m buy-out clause in his contract - opened the door for one of their main rivals.

Regardless of how hard I want that to happen, it just wouldn't make any sense for the future Bayern Munich captain to leave right after the guy who was supposed to be the next captain.

It's a massive gamble all along and I usually hate we put our eggs in the same basket with a huge risk of coming back empty-handed.

Was hoping that Pedro brings his pace and Barcelona experience to United. United are out of time. No other recognizable striker will be ready to come now. Not sure what goes on in LVG's mind. Lots of tweets saying that LVG pulled out of the deal because he was not sure of what Pedro would bring to the table, how come this is not done before the bids are made and Woodward goes to Barcelona? Looks like Chelsea did win this transfer and we dithered.

We sell the wrong striker (rvp), keep Rooney (even more baffling), Play mata on the wings which is not his best position. Going to come crashing down on LVG when we lose a game badly.

Never got the impression he's too thrilled to be leaving Barca and if he's not keen to join us or LVG doesn't want him then the right decision has been made. Would be a good player to have but if the player/manager aren't happy we will just have a Di Maria situation again.

Always knew he was useless without Messi in the team. Actually, knew about it today.

I'm shocked so many are disappointed.

Pedro's big quality was always his clinical finishing. He lost that a few years ago, now he's just a weedy little player with a mediocre touch who gets bullied off the ball and who Barca occasionally let play when there's an injury.

Look on the bright side. Young as signed a three year contract.
At least that shows he wants to be here.

Unsure on why people are getting so bothered that we missed out on a player that didn't even want to leave Barcelona in the 1st place and he was hardly the marquee signing most of us are wanting.

I find it very hard to believe that we've missed out on Pedro over a couple of million. The most likely scenario as I see it is United were quite happy to keep the deal bobbing along while they tried to secure a more "elite" player with Pedro being the fall back option. When Chelsea came in one of two thing happened, Pedro thought feck waiting around for United and chose Chelsea or Pedro gave the club an ultimatum and United pulled out. Either way if Van Gaal had really wanted him the deal would/could have been done weeks ago. At the minute the club and Woodward in particular look foolish and the hacks are lapping it up but does that really matter in the grand scheme of things? Either the club moves on to another fall back option or the pursuit of the elite target becomes the sole focus. We'll only know how costly missing out on Pedro is when the window closes.

Its interesting to see these Barca players going to play for Jose. Barcelona and Madrid had pretty intense fights on the pitch and Jose was seen as the anti football against Pep. Its like seeing Sir Alex moving to Barcelona in the early 2000's and signing Arsenal players.

So English media say LvG pulled out, Spanish media say Pedro chose Chelsea over us, we dithered etc....

I am not that bothered, said yesterday Felipe is still there, hopefully we snap him up, unless we want to give youth a chance, which would be a good decision too. Never was that convinced, although i warmed to the idea of Pedro coming here the alst few weeks (some posters did a lot of convincing). Think he will be good for Chelsea, but i guess we have to wait and see what the club does/or doesnt do in the next few weeks. Dont understand the overraction, it is just Pedro, not Ronaldo/Messi.

If he settles well in that Chelsea team, then its like adding Sanchez to Hazard.
Is how its perceived I mean
