He was horrendous last season and I think that may be clouding some people's opinions on Evans.

Overall he was a good servant for the club and he had spells where he was fantastic. Plus it's always nice to see someone come up through the ranks. Good luck to him.

Could not have said it better. Remember in the 08/09 season (09/10?) when Rio was out for a while and Evans played fantastically alongside Vidic. Think we had ten games or so with a clean sheet.

Some of the stuff being said about him makes us seem like absolute weapons. Was poor last year, but served the club well and was a model professional. Wish him all the best at WBA

Thought Spurs could do with him. I can see him moving to a bigger club - bigger than WBA - in a year or two. Good luck JE6!

Bye Jonny. Still remember watching him as a skinny little fecker playing for Sunderland, and then playing against Roma in the Champions League. Thought he was going to be special, especially after Pique leaving kind of cleared the way for him. There were times where he was absolutely fantastic, and I really thought he was nailed on to become something special.

Hope he goes there and regains some form and his confidence because he can be a really solid player. His confidence looked shot last year, and there were games where he couldn't even make a routine pass without it going out of play. Maybe going to West Brom means he is under a lot less pressure, but I still think he needs someone beside him to lead for him to flourish.

Surely 5 centre-backs is plenty even if we don't bring in a replacement? Smalling, Blind, Jones, Rojo and McNair should be enough cover.

Carrick could cover if we got into real trouble. Darmian has played games at CB for Torino as well if there's a huge crisis.

All the best to Evans but this is a good time to sell him and we get a fair amount of money for once too.

If you put these player's talent together you'll probably gather as much as Rio's left toe. Jones and Smalling are injury prone. Rojo is a bit shit, Blind is a midfielder and Mcnair is not very good either. I shiver at the thought of facing Barcelona with Mcnair and the Argentinian version of Silvestre as CBs especially if Romero is at their back

He wasn't even poor the entire season, just before the incident with Cissé he was decent.

Did having Evans in the squad really stop you from shivering?

He will be 28 halfway through the season so it's unlikely he will move onto a top club at the age of 30. If he can overcome his injury problems, he will be a very good signing for WBA. He also needs to find some confidence again as he was completely devoid of any last season when he played.

When fully fit he was better than Mcnair, Rojo and a midfielder in defense. Just 2 seasons ago he was described by most redcafe regulars as the second coming of the Christ. What's wrong with this place?

Seems he was waiting on Everton as first choice Otherwise been clear from start of the season that LVG didn't want him much.

Anyway, good luck to him.(Except when he plays us.)

Fair enough, I've never really rated Evans myself. Think I said as much in the unpopular opinions thread over the years: https://www.redcafe.net/threads/unpopular-opinions-thread.383975/page-21#post-16240524

I never overrated him but when fit he's surely better than Mcnair, Rojo and frigging Blind in midfield. Sometimes I wonder what is LVG smoking at the moment. He sells RVP because he decided that the Mexican one trick pony and Fellaini can do his job. He sells Evans when he knows that the defence is injury prone simply because he believes that some random midfielder can play in defense. What's next? A CB giving corner kicks. Oh wait.

He reminds of the time I used to play Championship manager Italia, with a 2-4-1-3 with Cantona-Ndlovu-Jess upfront. Jeez my strikers used to score 2-3 goals per game each

Because two years ago he was playing reasonably well.

Now he isn't and hasn't been for a long time.

All the best to Evans, he's been a great servant and is still a good player. His time was up, however.

LvG certainly seems to like a small squad, we just about have two player for every position I suppose, but an injury crisis like last year and you'd have to be worried.

Good look to Jonny, I thought Everton would have been better for him but guess they weren't interested.

I think Evans is currently weaker than all those you mention at CB.

Nothing wrong with that. But FFS bring a defender to replace him and not expect a midfielder to do the job. We're friggin Manchester United not Derby county

But it appears Blind is a CB for us now. Would be silly not to count him as that's where he's playing.
He is playing there but shouldn't be, in fairness he has done a decent job so far but his lack of experience in that area will eventually cost is. I feel Blind will become a utility player for us. Hopefully I'm wrong and he proves to be a superb CB for us but the jury is still out on that one.

Isn't he in the last year of his contract?

Dunno, probably since we seem to be doing stuff like that and getting low prices for our players a lot.

Anyway, wish him good luck. Thought he always looked fantastic next to somebody like Rio.

Messi has made world class cb's look like schoolboys so this would be nothing different if it happens..and Rojo and Romero will know about his weakpoints, so bring them on lol

Ahh we have made a profit this year!
No,because as Glaston pointed out, the fee for Di Maria was £65m + £50m wages last year and because we sold him this year that counts as spending for both this year and last year so we have infact LOST £170m this summer.

It's just simple Math for christ sake's.

Smalling, Blind, Jones, Rojo, McNair.

Carrick as another option.

We are well covered.

Ahh good old Glaston logic. He's just bitter that he's supports a club that's inferior to Arsenal.

He is on the last year of his deal..this is a player that we have no use especially this season being sold for almost 10 mil..thats a fantastic deal..considering that Danny welbeck at 16 mil is the 4th highest fee we have ever received.

Yeah Messi would be terrified at the prospect of facing Romero and Rojo

I like Blind atm, but the fear is he will be found out at some point.

I think lvG is just steadfast in his own opinion, ie he wants left footer and it has to be Hummels, or Ramos, if not then he doesn't want anybody, seems to be the same with the forwards as well hence no recent signings.

A third average centre-back would make all the difference eh?

He's better than Mcnair and Rojo + he's a better option than 2 midfielders in defense. I wonder whether LVG would consider Rooney as CB

Happy day for some of you miserable bastards. I always liked him. I'm sure he'll be a fantastic signing for West Brom.
