It makes me wonder what Van Gaal thinks on the sideline because i'm pretty sure this football is NOT what his 'philosophy' is.

This is the type of game where you need to stretch the pitch. So congested. Badly need another winger.

Penny for Giggs thoughts on this.

We may have sorted right back and midfield but our attack is fecking atrocious. You don't win games without scoring goals and we just don't look like scoring the number of goals needed to win trophies.

One step forward, two steps back.

Aguero tends to do something with it though. Work the keeper, beat a defender, hold the ball up etc. the things you expect your striker to do like gomis has done the few chances he gets. Rooney is just messing things up completely like you'd expect Danny welbeck to do in the box.
obviously I'm not saying Rooney is close to as good as Aguero is in any way, but it's silly to suggest he'd have scored those three chances. They weren't exactly clear cut by any means and he missed an easier one yesterday than any of them were.

Few shaky moments but all in all our defensive unit is fantastic! All my bets are up, I just need us to win to Nil!.... Can we get a goal though?

    Mata off, Young on.
Expect Carrick will be on at 65/70
    Shaw is fantastic

I dont understand LVG has had 2 full transfer windows with almost unlimited money, and has spent an awful lot, and really man for man there has not been a huge improvement , in addition our attacking play has really regressed

Its LVG fault he had the whole summer to fix our attack yet he hasnt, he better sort it out before tuesday

Excuses for Rooney already rolling out by Carragher. He's had 3 decent chances and not made the goalkeeper even dive.

A decent striker would have buried thise chances.

In games like this you may only get a handful of chances, Rooney clearly isnt upto it.

We need a striker and a Central Defender, the same two positions we have needed all summer long.

LVG has acknowledged that he is not at full fitness and it is showing.
Basti has his function even not in total fitness. And he certainly hasn't shown it like you said. Nothing he had done wrong in this first half. I would however sub Fellaini in for Mata

I would personally stay with the Schmidfield unless Bastian is really tired and can not continue at the same intensity.

If one had to go off, that would be Bastian and the player to come on should not be Carrick imo. I'd go Young or Fellani. Carrick would sit deep and absolutely invite them to take control of possession and run through the midfield.

Bastian hasn't been great but he's trying very hard to create, be an option and he's defending with intensity. He's playing 'off' because he's trying more and doing more. Carrick might calm our game but I don't see Swansea stopping their high pressing and quick counters, in which case it would suit Carrick's game at all.

Rooney isn't doing enough but he also doesn't get much support. We began to sit far too deep and didnt attack as a team.

Midfield need to push up and Mata/Depay need to get on the ball more

Herrera has been fantastic, he's been the spark that's lead to whatever chances we've created, and tidy on the ball otherwise. Darmian has been fantastic, Shaw and Smalling good. Bastian has been good on the ball but looks vulnerable. Blind's struggles are predictable.

    Mata invisible and Rooney bad.

Mata's even more shit now when he has to play with his back to the goal at the #10 position. Herrera's been decent and out of the 3 shots on goal , 2 have come off Herrera's pass.

I don't quite get what warrants changing Herrera for Mata. Mata for Ashley Young would make infinitely more sense.
it's got to the point where every single person knows Mata is zero threat down the line, and will obviously come in.
And he's normally too far off the goal to be any sort of threat either.

Not so sure why there is so much doom and gloom. United and Swansea are attacking, but the defenses are on top. Both LB and RB for both teams playing well.

Only player I think is disappointing is Depay, getting pushed around a bit, and making some poor passes.

Still think United will knick this.
I agree with your (sensible) post. I think it's actually quite a good match, and I think we may just nick it. This is an important match in Memphis's development, it's very hard for him but he'll learn a lot.

Too much moaning as usual. This is not a video game.

Swansea are not a bad team at all. We are playing reasonably well. There's so many complaints about boredom so why don't you just stop watching?

I do agree that Mata needs to speed things up though.

    i think we've been good.

We were never going to go there and thrash them 3-0

Rooney has been pants and we need to take our chances more.

I don't get his reaction. He knew Rooney will be there, maybe Rooney is wearing some new trendy boots and the kid is like wow!!! You got that new kicks? Or Maybe Rooney is wearing the same boots as he. I don't think he is that star struck. Or is he?
