In the most competitive league in the world

City have done very well this summer. They are a midfielder(or two depending on Toure) and a left back away from a team which is as good as any team in Europe. I think that they'll get those upgrades next summer, surely they are doing some good long term planning.
I thought it was going be a 4-horse race a couple of weeks ago ffs

They are building some squad. Very annoying

I'd be excited with De Bruyne but concerned based on the amount spent and the question marks over his mentality and previous time in England. Sterling again I would be excited as he is a talent but for £50 million + i'd expect and attacker who can finish. He might have got a goal at the weekend but he misses far to many chances to be a top top player. He can change that but if you're spending that kind of money you expect the finished article.
I think Sterling was £44m with £5m in potential clauses. You can't expect the finished article when signing a 20 year old player. Ronaldo was also frustrating at 19/20

I'm not complaining about FFP but getting fined for breaching it is the dumbest, least appropriate punishment possible.
Yeah, it's actually funny. 'You spent too much money so spend some more money now as a punishment.'

If it's a sugar daddy club, they won't give a feck because they have the money. If it's a club living beyond their means then FFP, far from saving them, will actually push them towards the brink.

Great purchase by City, a player at the highest level, and the perfect age to contribute right away, as well as stay relevant for years to come. Assume he'll push Navas out of their best eleven, but will he push Silva out wide? I always got the impression KDB was best operating from central positions.

I think they'll just shoehorn him in where it suits them. He will have a hard time displacing Silva, but City will of course have noticed how poor they are when Silva is injured (which has happened a few times the last season), so they just see it as a win-win, I guess. Competition and depth if Silva stays fit and in form, replacement if he gets injured.

Yeah, I guess so. Will be interesting to see what they look like when they line up with their best eleven in the top matches. I suppose he'll have to be blistering to get Silva's spot centrally, but even then, Silva's perfectly capable of imposing himself on games from out wide as well.

It's not though as it has to be paid off with the club's revenue, the fine cannot be paid off from an injection of cash courtesy of the owner, so it's another form of restraining the club's spending power.

Those fines really restrained PSG and Man City's spending this summer. Only about 250 million between them. Imagine if they hadn't been fined!

Other clubs could have spent what City have, they've just chosen not to or being unable to conclude deals for the targets they wanted. City are spending their revenue and will comply with FFP.

I'm not saying City won't comply to FFP now they've really started getting huge sponsorship deals. I'm saying fining a club for spending too much dumb.

As I've pointed out, it's not though, as the club has to use it's own income which is money that would otherwise go towards transfers, wages and any other costs the club incurs.

You'd think 1 Billion Euros would at least buy them a CL. Maybe a 2nd Billion will do the trick.

Nah, the clubs just give themselves another cash injection via a "sponsorship". It's admirable in it's brazen shadyness. Roman needs to get on it.

A business taking advantage of its owner's contacts, it's hardly headline news.

City have scored the most goals in the last two seasons. Goals hasn't been a problem for them. They can add to it hoping to make it even better but there are only 2-3 players in the world that guarantee you anything any Sterling or De Bruyne aren't on that list. They just like to buy the latest thing. They haven't solved there major problem from last season which was Pellegrini.
Sorry but Nasri and Navas are just average compared to Silva and Aguero. So 1/2 of the attackers have now been improved in that front 4. You probably haven't seen De Bruyne play last season if you aren't scared of his signing. You are basically saying that they won't improve vastly unless they sign Messi, Ronaldo or Suarez

He'll be flop of the season I reckon. Not that he'll do badly, he was Ok even at Chelsea all in all, but I can't see him justifying the price/hype.

People see £150m and immediately scream FFP is weak, but I disagree. Look at what FFP did to us last summer, our hands were noticeably tied. The main reason we can spend this money is because all of the amortisation costs from our signings 4/5 years ago are now either gone, or are tiny because of various contract extensions - they will now be replaced by this summers spendings, I see it as a one off luxury. Although we can naturally spend more as our revenue continues to grow.

Nasri was a good player when he went there and look at him now. Who's to say the same won't happen to Sterling that's what buying players mainly interested in money does.

And you are right in a sense, with the money City have I don't really worry unless they start buying the real game changers. Do you really think Sterling and De Bruyne are going to stop City getting pumped the next time Barca come to town? I'm just not "scared" of our rivals signing anybody. You don't win with individuals you win with a team(unless you have Messi etc) and at the moment City have a good team playing well so what is there to worry about.

Messi can't win you titles alone. That's being proven time and again with Argentina.

The answer to that is no, you are right, I doubt that Sterling and KDB will stop City getting pummelled by the European heavyweights (although it will undoubtedly improve them in their attacking department). That isn't the problem though, the problem is that they are adding top class players to their team in a league where their rivals (Chelsea, Arsenal and us) have done feck all to strengthen their arguably weak attack forces. Whilst they have got Sterling and De Bruyne, we are left with an dysfunctional attack with youngsters who are not ready yet and a past it Rooney. So City now have a world class Silva and Aguero and most likely have added two top class attackers in Sterling and KDB.

He looks a proper top class player.

Him and Silva feeding Aguero is slick enough on its own. If Sterling actually starts performing too...

I was hoping Bayern would go for him, he's perfect as a Ribery replacement. Instead they got Douglas Costa :(

He is bloody effective. Give him a good chance or freedom to cross/pass, he will score or assist.

Good signing indeed.

Although"bargain" is not really the word that comes to mind. I got twenty cans of Somersby cider for a tenner, that's a bargain, De Bruyne not so much. I mean, it's probably around his worth, but when you spend that much I don't think it can ever be considered a bargain, unless it's someone like Messi or Ronaldo.

He's a bargain if he helps them onto the world stage.
Remember, not so long before they won the lottery they were the 3rd best team in division 3.

Perspective is everything. I wouldn't drink that shit that Carlsberg call Cider if you paid me. ( actually not entirely true but we would have to negotiate )

If De Bruyne helps City to multiple trophies in his time at the club City will consider him something of a bargain.
