    Reckon it's:

    Rooney

I'm definitely at the stage of hoping for a Rooney injury. Had enough, and Van Gaal, great a manager as he is, is a fecking coward. Or of course, his hands are tied contractually after all.

Rooney was moved from the 9 for being shit, then moved from the 10 for being shit, now moved from the 9 again for being shit, but not moved from the team for being shit. Had enough.
I just said similar to my old man.

Van Gaal said: “We have played well but can improve and I was not so satisfied with Rooney as a striker and Mata as midfielder and that’s why I’m changing.

“Rooney can play in more positions, he’s a multi-functional player and I have tried him in a striker’s position. He’s played well but not spectacular and Falcao is a striker and I think he can do it better.”
    This was last September.

As a striker, Martial is better.
As a number 10, Herrera and Mata are better.
As a midfielder, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Schweinsteiger and Herrera are better than him.
As a wide attacker, Memphis, Mata, Young, Lingard and Pereira offer more.

Why is Wayne Rooney playing for us?

Rooney played at roughly the same level as Herrera at the weekend, IMO, and Herrera's really not a #10. Bit of a mountain out of a molehill if you ask me. Rooney up top and Martial out wide is ridiculous though. Stick Rooney in behind Martial and change things up dramatically.
I don't think people wanted Herrera at No. 10. It's the Carrick/BFS midfield that is the problem. Not an ounce of pace between them and the combination has never worked. In fact it has been disastrous.

Rooney in at number 10 is a bigger problem then Rooney at number 9. Least when he's at number 9 he doesn't get as many touches of the ball

So one game Herrera's form dips to the level of Rooney's and he's out the team? Makes sense.
Herrera's not a #10 - that's the most important thing here. He hasn't played well in many games this season, really. He was far, far more influential last season in a midfield three. Shame because I'm a big fan but he's wasted in this setup.

It's interesting that LVG hasn't lost the dressing room yet because if you were one of Herrera, Mata, or any number of players that gets dropped and shifted around to accommodate our slow, lumbering oaf of a captain, you'd probably start a coalition to get the manager out.

It will be interesting to hear what the crowds reaction will be if he loses the ball at any time.

Well that's a bad start, Van Gaal has already pissed me off by saying he was happy with the away game

    Seriously?

Surely Rojo and Young are full backs.

Up front it'll either be Mata behind Rooney or Rooney behind Martial.

He is better than Rooney atm in the current form of Rooney, so yeah that is the most important thing here.

Have they played together more than twice? In the first game they played together, in this competition, they were imperious and we played some our best football of the season IMO.

Rooney must be taking them on these legendary nights out and keeping them permanantly drunk, that's all I can think.

Blimey - judging by some of the reactions on here I fear a full-on forum revolt if we don't score tonight!

    *popcorn.gif*

LVG refuses to confirm where Rooney will play today, denies reports that Memphis has been dropped as a result of being late to the hotel, and Schneiderlin is ill since this morning.

He's the face of English football, I can just imagine the uproar if Manchester United sell Rooney, the media went balistic when we sold Welbeck.

CSKA Moscow: Akinfeev; Fernandes, Ignashevich, Berezutski, Schennikov; Dzagoev, Wernbloom; Tošić, Natcho, Milanov; Musa. Subs: Chepchugov, Vasin, Nababkin, Golovin, Panchenko, Doumbia

Surprised to see Doumbia on the bench.

Well I am sure there is logic to that team, but fecked if I know what it is.

I wanted Young up front on the left, with Rooney dropped, but RB? What did Herrera do wrong, that Rooney hasn't done in abundance?

Pretty sure we will win, but I don't get this team.

    1.He's injured

    2. You select each player and give them a chance to impress. Lingard has, Depay hasnt
    1. Is he?

    2. feck your standards must be low. Lingard has been below average, certainly hasn't set the world alight. We haven't scored since he has been starting. This is exactly the sort of game to get Memphis his confidence back as well.

So many wrongs in this post. Anyway, Depay missed the team bus and LvG is not happy with him according to reports.
What is wrong in the post?

    didn't know that.

Lingard has looked very good in every game he's played. Unlucky not to have hit goals against both City (off the crossbar) and I forget who the other game was against (hit the post). Depay meanwhile has been horrendous and needs fans to be patient with him.

Not understanding the complaints one bit. Outside of Young in defence it's a good team.
No dude, he's been pretty average. He's not United first team quality, never has been - never will be. Shame we loaned out Adnan to BVB's bench, cos he could have been getting some minutes here. Depay has been pretty good in CL, and as i said above this is the perfect game for him to start getting his confidence back.

Same with Young over Darmian. It's got long term potential, and Young has been below par this season as well.

Bit of perspective. ... Carrick and BFS bossed it against Liverpool. And it was using BFS in a high press against Cazorla that cost us against Arsenal.

 The funny thing is, as dreadful as his football is, and as obstinate as he is over Rooney, I can't help but like Van Gaal. Imagine if we played good football under him.

I do see what you're saying. But at the same time, I find it hard that anybody who's actually watched any football the last 12 months would find it controversial or shocking.

That seems like an oddly snarky response to a completely innocent point but hey-ho, that's matchday threads for ya.
