First time I ever saw him was in an England victory shield game a few years back (maybe against Scotland?) and he seemed to be playing loads of through balls and taking the oppositions defence completely out of the game by playing perfectly weighted balls over the top to the strikers. Awesome vision by someone so young. He must have been 14 at the time. Didn't realise he hadn't been making England squads of late though. I wonder why?

It has to be by choice. There can't be any other explanation.

To be fair, at youth level, talent is a bit more spread out beyond the big clubs. I always see top United young talent not getting international recognition, but ultimately, I don't have an extensive enough knowledge to know whether anyone is just simply better.

Definitely like what I've seen from Gribbin, but couldn't say for certain that there aren't two more talented 16/17 year old 10s in the country.

There aren't (Edwards is probably more talented that's it) but Gribbin has always been a bit inconsistent and unconvincing when he was called up (they played him mostly as CM or on the wing though).

Surely not?
By Bates too, so that adds credence.

Not surprising.Chelsea paid 50k/month or so for Christensen who's not their first team player. If you want to poach one of the best talents from your rival who has been with the club for nearly 10 years you have to offer crazy money.

I believe they have offered Angel Gomes a quite crazy deal as well.

Not surprising.I'm not allowed to say but you'll be shocked to know how much they paid an U12 (now U13) from us to join them last summer.
Yeah I just edited as I realised it's by Bates - who I haven't actually seen get much wrong United related in the past couple years.
I'm sure I've seen some on the forums claim that City have bought, or offered to buy houses etc. to get the youth players to sign. It really is nuts.

Is the point of the article not to admit that they fabricated or failed to verify the story?
City and the Mirror have history regarding this sort of thing but still they print their garbage.
I think Mirror are making fun of City for making them retract the story.

Seen loads of stuff from city fans about that recently. They seem genuinely bothered when a negative article is written about the club. Proper weirdos.
Think how shit they'd feel if they followed a big club then. Bad press for days.

They are trying to sign Angel Gomes also. They will ultimately fail.

Negative=OK
Lies=Not OK.

Anyway this isn't the take the piss out of City with asinine comments thread so back to discussing Gribbin?

It's so predictable that our coaches know who they'll approach every year. They also offered RoShaun Williams last summer.

11k might sound like a wind up number but some Chelsea U21s players were under 20k/week so I wouldn't be surprised.

City being desperate to poach our youth proves that a lot of what has been written about our academy recently is in fact rubbish. We still have most of the top local talents and they're still more likely to get a chance with us.

Only seen those vids of him so far, but is he as tall as he looks at 16? Looks like he has talent, annoying if he becomes another who grew too much or not enough to make it.

You're on a Manchester United forum... What do you expect?
People not to call Blues "weirdos" for taking exception to a newspaper blatantly lying about their club?
Banter's to be expected, I get that.

If clubs took exception to every lie written about their club in a paper then there wouldn't be enough space to issue corrections. City are spending a lot of time working on their holier than thou image though so hardly surprising.

The figures might not be correct but they did try to sign him and the figures aren't that far off. They also tried to sign Williams and tried to sign Rashford last year. For a club who are supposedly not talking to the press anymore and are letting their success do the talking according to recent articles they were fairly quick to brief the press as soon as something was written which didn't reflect well on them

I think it's a bit whiny of a club that claims to be among the best in the world to be cringing about negative articles in tabloids. Imagine how we'd be mocked if we set about trying to correct journo's trying to sensationalize stuff! That's all the PR team at the club would have time to do. They deserve to get some stick for that.

It's not like they haven't been trying to poach the best talents around the country for the past few years and I'm sure they would have promised Gribbin a good amount as a starting wage once he signed a full contact with them.

City not happy they were getting bad press on trying to get him

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-city-correction-6787480
Pretty much sums up why it's daft to be demanding retractions on sports journalism. Corrections to normal journalism tend to be along the lines of 'We mistakenly identified Mrs Wagner as Mrs Wagger. We are happy to set the record straight', or 'We represented Mr Jones and Mr Smith as business partners when they are in fact unaffiliated. We are happy to set the record straight.'

But with almost any football journalism, the correction is 'This entire article was total, made-up-on-the-spot-to-fill-my-weekly-quota bullshit. We are happy to set the record straight.' Why even bother?

Thought he had a poor game today. Things just did go his way, lost to many balls of which one lead to a Newcastle goal and was dwelling on the ball way to much for my taste.....
On the other hand, was impressed with Kehinde - our best player today.

Part and parcel of youth development, fluctuations in form etc. He is an interesting one, sometimes looks like he could be a top player one day and other times seems to be a headless chicken.

He so reminds me of Ozil. Even in his inconsistencies. :p

I didn't think he was that bad, really. I prefer to see performances like that, where he's a bit sloppy and inconsistent but always trying to get involved and certainly showing his quality here and there than the lackadaisical ones where he just doesn't seem interested.

Kenny Swain is the last good England youth manager tbf.Cooper (U17s manager) always have some perplexing squad selection and don't let me talk about Boothroyd.
