I wouldn't be at all surprised if the targets for every season are simply these:

*Top 4
*Knockout stages of the CL
*That's it.
So like Arsenal, except for years Arsenal were funding their stadium. Now it looks like it might be coming together a bit more. Of course knowing them, they will now go out of CL again and let City win the league. We have our stadium, they keep bragging that we are the biggest club in the world. Shouldn't out ambitions we higher. That smacks of the board just being happy to get their cut of the profits.

Like you, I have no idea what the target is, I am pretty sure it is not going to be you must finish 3rd to better last year. I would hazard a guess that he is expected to still qualify for the CL for next year, that we have challenged for the title (not at the half way stage, as per scouse world, but by May), and we do well in the cups. If we are to be believed it is a 3 year plan, I would say the title is the target next year, but does it really matter if it is his last year.
Aye, he said before that the expectation was that he'd finish his third year with the title.

If it's the case then the board should stop calling United the biggest club on the planet.

He literally said a bunch of words without actually saying anything.
Yes, terrible. I lost count on how many times SAF told us the team's game plan prior to the match. He trusted the journos implicitly and gave them everything

Sad but true . As long as there is a steady revenue with increased tv money .The board will be satisfied.

He might have finished his third year with the title if we pick up form quickly and he signs someone who can actually put the ball in the net in January. If not then next season is another year of picking players confidence up, this time not from Moyes but from himself.

"so when you don't assess December"....the man is an idiot
 unbelievable. Why don't we 'not assess' all the draws, defeats or any goal conceded while we're at it. It's been great.

So he's satisfied with us being the dominant team despite us only picking up a single point in about 5 matches or so? Jesus wept.
Mate, its all about possession. LVG feels that we need to win the possession stat.
As long as we have possession, who cares that we are scoring zero goals?

He keeps telling us that we dominated every game we have played and lost. And he calls these games fantastic performances.
Surely, the board must realise that LVG is not the guy to get us back to winning ways (I mean, a winning score-line, not winning the possession stats)?

It doesn't matter what he says anymore, almost everyone has lost faith in him. The Chelsea game was better and more like what we want to see but it must be continued and we have to win against Swansea, otherwise the knives will be straight back out.

The vulturisation (I know it's not an actual word) on redcafe is reaching sick levels.
We have had enough of the draws and losses.
I backed him up for almost 18 months, but after losing to Bournemouth - that was my breaking point. No more. Enough is enough.

I want to remind you that our current form is worse than the teams in the relegation zone. Only Sunderland have a worse recent record than us.
We are currently showing relegation form and LVG is hailing our last performance as "fantastic"!

Am I a vulture now? Sure.

That leaves the F.A. Cup.
We are only in that competition because we haven't yet played in it.
When we play Sheffield Utd, it will be interesting to see if we can get to the next round.

Would love to know when the knives weren't out.

I would love them to sustain tempo during a game. They always seems to start well, then they start to tire. Is this training which is supposed to give them stamina actually doing the opposite?

The board has spent close to £300m in just over two years. I don't think it's true. Manchester United's ultimate appeal is in being known around the world as winners.

But I still think things are going to improve.
If we get 1 win in the next 2 months, that would be an improvement, so I'd damn well hope so.
Our last 8 games: DLLLLDDD
If we continue on the same run as above, LVG can't possibly survive.

Even a slightly better run will bury him. He needs to be stringing wins together.

Shhh! We're just using his words out of context, instead of calling him out on his nonsensical rubbish.

They make a big thing about how many Twitter followers we have. Talking about grasping at straws.
Funny thing is, even by Facebook fans we are considerably far off Barca and Real.

They probably have a lot of admirers that like them as they have the world's best players, whilst we haven't even one in the top 100 bar the GK.

If I remember correctly our financial projections are based on finishing 3rd in the league and reaching the 1/4 finals of the CL.

Normally I'd agree with you, but the way everyone came out after the 0-0 draw against Chelsea, talking about a "fantastic performance" and how LVG successfully managed to turn things around, I'm not so sure.

So we are in trouble if we don't at least get third, the CL has gone. He has to give the EL a shot, that might end up our only chance of CL football next season. What a flaming mess.

It was a better performance that is all, but we still didn't score.

Nope you are a fan who is angry and sad about how poor the team is playing and as I said in my next post United fans have full right to be angry at the manager and want him gone. The vulture part is regarding taking anything he says and using it to kill him even though you know already that words mean nothing in the overall context.

How did another 0-0 draw against a quite frankly rubbish Chelsea side manage to ease off all the pressure? it's not even like we conquered them Real Madrid style, we attacked for once and had a good half, the 2nd half was more of the samey pass it around crap, we still didn't win and LVG makes out he's turned the team around, okay.

"Can Manchester United score? They always score"
He does talk a lot of crap. But to be fair, all managers under pressure do.

Van Gaal wants to save his own skin, and looking for positives in this horrible spell isnt easy, but he has to try.

The fact that a lot of us want him fired (me included) means we are unlikely to buy into what he's saying.

This is the Age of Spin. As an example, if I go into my local Council's office, the walls are covered in posters with stuff like the following on 'em: "Dangerous dog patrol expanded", "We've cut crime rates by 79%", "Recycling scheme 'a massive success'" etc; yet, if I look out of my window, an unlicenced dog is running away with the tattered remains of my wheelie bin.

You missed the part where all the journos are going "LEWIE!... L-LEWIE!" as they fight like seagulls scrapping over dropped chips, just so they get the opportunity to ask a cnutish question.
Eric... is that you?

I guess because the players showed enough effort and intent to suggest that LVG hasn't lost the dressing room yet? That's a pretty big factor tbf. Maybe not in terms of the direction we're going but certainly in terms of how close LVG is to the point of no return.

He needs to stay positive and I get that, but because of how terrible a job he's done he has to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find a positive. I just loved watching all that awful football before December.

He truly thought he'd cracked it when we were top after 7 games didn't he?
