We're shit as a whole, but we're garbage away from home. Hopefully we get a result with an away goal, but the performance will probably be yet another shitfest. 5 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats away from home in the league with a goal difference of 18-20 and 1 win, 1 draw and 3 defeats in Europe so far. It's beyond embarrassing.

I hope LVG can get at least two more Liverpool wins before his departure. Only good thing he has brought us in his time here. My fear is that will come to an end sooner rather than later. Our last win against the scousers was far from convincing but Liverpool are as unpredictable as we are so who knows.

This is the Europa League though. Someone wondered if him and Pereira have picked up knocks. Strange that neither of them were even on the bench yesterday.
Well they're not injured because they are playing right now in a reserve cup game. Pretty strange to omit them from the squad giving our lack of attacking options. I'm not sure if they're being punished or what but we needed them vs West Brom.

this liverpool side is unbelievably shit, any of SAFs united sides would tear it to pieces and dick the corpse
sadly atm were unbelievably shit too but at least they occasionally look bothered whereas we practically never do anymore

think it'll be 2 pretty shit games. yawnfest of a 0-0 at their place, slightly better but ultimately crap score draw at ours.
united out at the end of it

We beat Ferguson's United with worse sides than our current lot. United rarely played well at Anfield under SAF.

Both sides are very poor at the moment though.

I have a really good feeling about this one.

Basically, I think the only thing stopping a solid victory here is DDG (again, again, again).

I think we'll get through this tie and I'm expecting Mata to play well.

West Ham in the cup concerns me more to be honest.

I think our luck will run out against them. But I hope they prove me wrong. Hopefully we can nick a goal at Anfield and Depay can continue the form shown in Europe.

Odds on Mata putting in a two footed lunge on Henderson?

    I reckon we'll lose by a goal.

I can see disaster looming - I reckon we'll be out before we go back top Old Trafford.

Nah, it needs to be 3-0 or more if you want it to be over after the first game and that's just not going to happen. I reckon we'll scrape out a win but more likely it'll be along the likes of 2-1 or something like that. Going to Old Trafford without having conceded at home would be brilliant.

I just saw the report of the game. It is a strange one. He has promoted the other kids over them completely. As though he is trying to prove a point and he doesn't consider those two as his kids.

I'd rest Blind, drop Carrick and Darmian, and play Mata, he's got a performance in him to make amends for today IMO. Lingard being out is a blow, his hard work and the fact he gets that this rivalry transcends the Europa League would have been handy, as you never know what Memphis you'll get.

    I'd go with this;

Would go with the same, Rasher as a supersub, why is lingard out btw, is he injured or picked yellows?

Jeez it was one match...we can win this if we play as we did prior to today.

Our first team players (players who lost/drew every game in December) are returning, which means that we will play the boring, possession, side/back passing football we are used.

It is strange that our U21s team is better than our first team, but that is what we seem to be seeing.

If you want us to play like during that 4 game winning run, we'd need to bring back as many U21 players as possible, as they have been infected with the LVG philosophy. But bear in mind, if they continue to play under LVG, they'll eventually be infected and will perform exactly like our first team players.

And before anybody says that LVG has faith in youth - he doesn't. He'll exclude a well performing youth player and replace him with a poor performing first team player, at the first opportunity.

The usual caf doom and gloom before a big game despite history telling us strangely that's when we're at our best.
We were all expecting a trashing against Arsenal just last week.
I've consulted my oracle and it's going to be a 2-2 draw at Anfield, we sneak it 2-1 at OT.

Is Fosu-Mensah not registered to play in the EL?

Edit* He's not, that means either Riley gets a chance, Darmian plays at LB or Blind continues to trudge on without rest.

I hope I'm wrong but I fear we may get a bit of a tonking here but then I thought that when we played the arse.

Based on Liverpool's decent results recently, especially the City game, you can see a good home win is likely. However, two legs creates an additional consideration which can affect a team's approach. Think it'll be cagey.

He can be drafted in as he is so young?

What is the B list of players?

A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1994 and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.

Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than midnight CET on the day before the match in question.

    De Gea
    Darmian--Smalling--Blind--Rojo
    Schneiderlin--Herrera
    Pereira--Mata--Memphis
    Martial

Yeah I forgot that Fosu-Mensah is ineligible too. I hope Borthwick is back otherwise it will have to be Blind at the back, unless we start Riley LB or Poole at CB.

I won't start Rashford (Should have rest him against WBA though), the teenager has never experience playing 4 or 5 games in 2 weeks before.

United will probably sit back and invite liverpool on to them, and then hit them on the break. Need to defend well, and take chances when they come.

It's a Euro away not a glorified PL fixture so we have to approach it in that way. They'll be bouyed by their recent wins and we will be the opposite after the reverse against WBA so it makes for an intriguing contest. I can see a draw here and a win at OT

The only thing I'm certain about, from a Liverpool POV, is that we 100% must take a lead to OT to stand a chance.

If we can't look like we give a shit for this one, then when can we? I'm going for a 0-0 and a nervy 1-0 at OT.

Origi & Firmino or Sturridge & Coutinho?

At Anfield? Cou Firmino & Sturridge. I'd go something like this...

    Sturridge
    Milner Firmino Coutinho

With Milner being the more defensive of the three, and the others moving around fluidly. We'll need Milner to drop back and cover Moreno, because if LVG has any sense, he'll target the right wing (our left side) with everything he's got.

    Edit: Scratch that...
Actually, with Lucas out, I expect us to go 4-3-3.

Liverpool are inconsistent, but on their day and if the opposition isn't careful, they can demolish teams. That said, we've done great against the bigger teams under van Gaal. I expect a 1-1 draw.

The real disaster will be the funereal atmosphere of the second leg if Liverpool tonk us three or four in the first game. It could be unprecedentedly bitter. Will be the first time I've watched a match wearing a full balaclava. And holding a _______.
