Thanks mate!
Yeah, we've been lucky with the class we've had between the sticks in recent times.
But Pete was an animal, always bossing & bullying the box and beyond. Even his own players hated him at times!, I recall Keano coming to blows at half time :-)
I always thought he was the favourite in 1 on 1 situations. Scary really how often he save us (and then scream the head of bruce/pally etc).

If DDG can be persuaded to stay for the contracted period, his desire to leave may also diminish in the same proportion. For one, he will feel more and more at home with Manchester United, will have more and more success (we hope!), and Real Madrid, with its fickleness ( he is an Athletico boy, so I don't think there is any sense of involvement with Real) will have less and less appeal. And who knows, he could be our skipper by then!

Good point regarding future skipper.
Will be very interesting to see who Jose appoints.

I think young Dave will stay, particularily now Mourinho is the manager.
I don't think it would necessarily have been the case if Van Gaal had remained in charge.
A good point about him being an "Atletico boy."

If only Manchester had a Mediterranean climate,we wouldn't just be talking about him being a future skipper but also a future manager, maybe,eh !!;)

I was the biggest Peter Schmeichel fan but if DdG stays then he does have the ability to surpass the Great Dane.

I like everyone else hopes he does, having to replace his quality ain't easy and it would be a massive step backwards when things seem to finally be going in the right direction.

I hope the appointment of Mourhino has given him extra thought for staying and who knows, maybe Madrid have indeed cooled their interest.....Navas has been playing well for them after all.

Future skipper?maybe but at this moment in time he still seems a bit quiet for me......and I'm old fashioned.....I like my captains at either centre half or midfield.

I think it's going to have to be Rooney, at least for the first season. After that, who knows? He might give it to one of his own players that he trusts. De Gea never struck me as being captain material but maybe he will grow with a manager that he actually enjoys playing for. He was new in town under Fergie so I can understand him not being more of a leader then but hopefully these last years have given him some experience in that area as well.

I think the captain should be part of the whole process on and off the field. I have no problem with Rooney as a player, but Degea is coming to his prime. His appointment could give extra impetus going forward. Jose needs a leader that can give consistent performances, not someone that is constantly having to worry about his own form. If a player can provide leadership and guidance I really don't care what position he plays. I'm a little biased though, I've wanted Degea to lead this team for a long time. Just do it, Jose.

I agree the captains job is indeed both off and on the field but it's the latter where I have a minor issue with,as I said,I just think he's a quiet lad.....maybe that will change but as much as I love him and think he's the worlds best.....I have never looked at him and said "he should be our captain"

I respect your opinion so I'll just ask: who should be captain? And who will take over from Rooney?

At this moment in time I would remain with Rooney.....if he indeed is going to play most matches.....if not then it's a tough one.
Other's have mentioned on here in threads about our lack of leadership and I believe this is proof of that.....Schwiensteiger would have made the perfect captain had he been fit but it remains to be seen if he kicks a ball for us again.

Anyone see the latest stories coming out of France regarding De Gea and an alleged rape of a minor?

Yup, all sounds very messy if true... something about having sex with a woman who was forced into it by a third party.

The rumours now are he's been sent home from the Spain squad, not sure how reliable the Sun are though, or if it's related.

Obviously we don't know the truth, but that he just publicly lambasted Real and now this happens... I can almost guarentee it's not a coincidence.
Real are a bunch of gangsters.

Which is why they have also implicated one of their own players who they are trying to tie down to a new contract?

Or trying to get sell/rid of, whichever you think. I put nothing past Real.
We'll see what happens with this but I have my doubts.

Taking the next corner instead of Jones!
Wow! Just read DdG has been sent home to Spain and will take no part in EURO2016. Presser at 18:00 BST apparently.

EDIT: Apparently the bit about him leaving the Spain camp is not accurate. There are still lots of reports out there saying he has been removed from the squad pending a statement later today but I was asked to point this out.

Eurosport UK running it on their front page with a black and white photo of De Gea, as if he's been murdered.

Was on a news feed that I've got an alert for. First English story I read was in the Independent, then the Guardian. For a short while earlier the MEN also carried a sensationalist version of the story for what that's worth! The story seems to be changing all the time as more info becomes clear. That's why I corrected the original post. Sure that there's nothing in this but the timing seems to stink something rotten!

Well Dave has rejected the rumour and is still with the squad.

http://www.skysports.com/football/n...a-remains-with-spain-squad-as-he-rejects-lies

"I was resting in my room, playing with the Play [station] and I was told about this story.

"I have no idea where this comes from and how this can be in the press. It's a way to tarnish someone's reputation. The first thing I did was to speak to my family so they wouldn't worry.

"But they know me. I know what I've done with my life so I'm very calm.

"It gives me more reason to stay with Spain, in the company of my team-mates. It's in the hands of my lawyers."

Congratulations to De Gea for starting in an official tournament for Spain. It is fully deserved based on the past couple of seasons form.

In my opinion the best GK in the world right now, and he is ours
