29 years old. Only has one too season left and on a huge wage. Not rapid and strong enough for the PL. Not work hard enough defensively. Can't compete for most aerial ball... Can he perform in one of those rainy cold night away to Stoke?
I actually didn't realise he was 29 already... It's a bit sad that his career will be over soon.

Now being reported on SSN that we are close to signing him.

Most likely using Di Marzio as their source.

Granted these are just short clips, but I don't see anything that extraordinary about him in there. He's a solid player no doubt, but one that seems to thrive in particular due to Dortmund's system. He has plenty of space to work with and plenty of players with good movement to pick out. He's not poor by any means, just like Kagawa never was, but I seem him as another type of guy who looks much better due to Dortmund's style of play.
If we spend 38 million on him, I more than anything hope to be wrong, but I just have a bad feeling about this.
Doesn’t do spectacular stuff often, but seems to make the right decision all the time, a smart player. And if by making the correct decisions he can rack up that many goals and assists, he could well be the right player for United. The amount of chances he’d create is something we’ve missed.

Many chances created + Zlatan =

That probably had something to do with the fact that he is 27

edit: never mind

He's a good fit especially when Mourinho plays his infamous park the bus/counter attack football. However, I think we are missing that one player who can affect the game when we play teams with 10 men behind the ball - which is going to happen a lot.

We only have Martial or to some extent Rashford as the players who have the ability to take on defenders and create space for others.

If we are going to have Martial at his best and allowed to roam, I'd like someone like an Alexis Sanchez out wide who can really help stretch the play.

Getting a wide playmaker would be a bad move tactically in my opinion. Would make us too narrow as a side.
Sorry, but thats like saying its a bad tactic to buy Messi. If hes a quality player you make small adjustments so that player fits. There is no rule that say we have to play wide on both sides. Personally I think it makes perfect sense to have a playmakertype on the right. Martial is not that type of player. Martial also plays wide and cut in when he gets the ball. We definitely need someone to deliver balls if we buy Zlatan. But it also depends on what happens in the midfield. Will Rooney play a type of roll like he did the last games under LvG and now for England? If yes I think it makes perfect sense to have someone who is a good deliveryman on the right. Even if he is narrow in he play Mou style of play makes the sidebacks go on overlaps. Thats would be a perfect setup for Valencia or Azpilicueta(hypothetically). I also think Mou wants hes wingers to not be stuck wide. Since Martial is a player who usually sticks to hes side i would really love to have a player who moves out of position.

My bad! He will probably play for another 6-7 years though
Not by the sound of CAF regarding 30th birthday

Mourinho has diamond up his sleeve. Can play diamond with 2 forwards like Porto and Inter if needed.

30m for a 28yr old clearly shows that Jose is signing players for the short period of 3yrs that he will be at United
We have one of the youngest squad in the league. It's only reasonable to had more experience.

Jose can't win can be? He goes for a young player and people moaning saying we have a lot of youngsters. Goes for older players and people moan about short period.

I might be in the minority but I don't we should've signed him.. Not worth the investment, he had one very good season in a decent league.

This is going to end up like Kagawa. If he doesn't settle in immediately, and give 8/10 every game then everyone's gonna turn on him like they did with Darmian, Schweinstiger, Depay and Schneiderlin.

If the team is playing well then he might get more time but if we aren't off to a great start, he'll be a scapegoat.

Make no sense. So we shouldn't sign anyone at all? Or because Kagawa came from Dortmund, so now all Dortmund players will flop for us in PL?

Not attacking your opinion, but just want to hear a deeper explanation 'cause that doesn 't make sense.

No, We should be looking to sign either players all the way at the top of their game or young players.. he is neither. Go for someone like Draxler or Coman, or spend another 20 mill and get James Rodriguez or Reus.

Nothing to do with Dortmund, I just don't think Miki is the solution to our winger problem. I would love to be proven wrong but I feel that if we are going out and ready to spend then spend on someone who is at the same level as Alexis/Hazard/De Bruyne.

I posted in the Draxler thread that we already have a bunch of young inconsistent wingers/ or can play on wing that also have great potential that need game time and may become good. We need a solid season, so Draxler doesn't give off the assurance plus, Colman is Juventud bound. Talent hunting is very hit and miss. Coman was transfered between PSG Juventus and Bayern the last few years and look at his age. It's hard to get the right youngster, and harder for him to perform right off the bat with the expectation of this season.

Posted in the James Rodriguez that I think his rumor price is fair, but he is not right winger. He is a #10 by trade. He is being used on the right wing for Real Madrid is his downfall. Reus is Dortmund loyalty bound. There is no top class wingers moving this season as the news indicate. You can't buy what is not available.

Rodriguez is at the top of their game but Mickey isn't? James can barely get a game, let alone be at the top of anything, whilst also coming off the back of a bad showing at the Copa too. Muller won't come, Reus won't come and some will argue Mickey is coming off a better season playing in the exact same team, whilst also being able to play in a position we need, rather than the position Reus occupies where we are stacked with players. Draxler or Coman? Young players who have everything to prove instead of a top class, established player coming off an incredible season where he was voted player of the year in a league dominated by a large portion of the players you would prefer?

I'm not saying Miki isn't good or didn't have a great season but he had one very good season but the one before that was ok. What changed? Well, The team was playing better as well.

This time last year most people had written him off. He did tremendously well and has to be Dortmund's most improved player but then one excellent season doesn't make you the best. Remember the great seasons Downing, Hleb, Lambert, Lallana had.

I'm not saying Miki is going to turn out like that but just mentioning some examples of how a player having a great season doesn't necessarily translate to them being able to bring to another team that plays a different style. Some tactics suit certain players better than others and a player having a great season could be a result of playing in a system that suits them very well.

James Rodriguez has only had one world class season in his career. KDB had only one world class season in his career before Man City bought him for £55m.
Also, if you bother to do some research, last year isn't Mkhitaryan's first good season. He was excellent for Shaktar that's why Dortmund paid £21m for him and he had a good first season at Dortmund.

None of those players had season of title challenger nor being among the most productive in their league. Mkhi was better performer than Douglas Costa when they both was at Shakta. This season overall he again had a more productive season than Costa again, and if Costa is available I can see us going for him in a heartbeat. So it's not so it's one season wonder neither, nor system restricted. More like Klopp got found out by Heyncknes then Pep and the Bundesliga in his last season there. Klopp didn't make full use of Mikh talent. And Klopp style is not like Mourinho's, so if you doubt Mkhi's success, there is also the same amount doubt his failure. If he only does so so for us, then we still have many young wingers/ can play on the wing youngster who would be happy to use that playing time. As Mourinho is backed with transfer, if he sees Mkhi fits his plan, then there is no reason to deny him signing and running around asking for Bale, Muller, Reus who are not for sale.

Averaged a goal/assist every game last season. Age 27 turning 28 at the peak of his career. Must take a real pessimist to not welcome this signing.

Not for nothing, but the best players we've ever had at the club are those who weren't stars already, but whose moves to United propelled them to stardom. Mik is on the rise, his improvement over the last few seasons demonstrates that. Also it's worth noting that we've tried buying Galactico-type players for big money over the last couple of seasons, and it hasn't worked out so well.

Ultimately though, I'm for buying players Mourinho wants, because when he's been given the freedom to recruit in the past he's recruited well.

Sky has deal done for 23.3M, good price I must say. fecking Pedro cost Chelsea more than that last year and he was strictly moving for the paycheck having exhausted all his ambition. Mkhitaryan seems like he wants to achieve something.

He moved because he wanted more playing time.
