Well, you kind of implied it by saying Carlo being *far* better. I don't really share this notion. He's more experienced, but Tuchel otoh knows the league and its players far better, and apart from that, Carlos domestic record isn't *that* impressive.
I expect a harder title race than last season, and a Dortmund championship wouldn't come off as a surprise.
From what both managers have achieved it's easy to say Ancelotti is far better manager. No manager has won 3 CLs except one. Yeah his domestic record isn't great though.

IMO Ancelotti is far better manager than Tuchel.

Happy enough with that. It was always going to be tough, they only landed a couple of days ago and Dortmund are further along in pre-season than we are. Goals from individual errors and a worldie strike are no big deal.

Bailly looks class and Shaw still has it. That's enough for me.

more right wing than andrei kanchelskis
True. We did not start that season to great to be honest though. Two draws in the league against Leicester and West Ham after the Charity Shield defeat.
The Charity Shield was the first United match I took my son to. He was 8 and when the 3rd goal went in he put his little head down and cried . The same match my dad proclaimed that he was faster than Stam ( he was 72 at the time ) but how quickly things changed . It seems a lifetime ago now

Mourinho will have learnt a lot about the team from this match, much more than the walk in the park vs Wigan. Not bothered about the result, I'd rather save the performances for Bournemouth.

As long as we manage to get through pre-season injury free and relatively unscathed, I'll be delighted.

Bailly looks like he's going to be a super signing for us, btw. A type of defender we've not had since Vidic.

Damnit I missed this one.
What was the final score?
Who scored?
Did Ibra play?

EDIT: I just checked the full report.

4-1.

It seems that our attacking problems remain. Scoring 1 goal per game.
Only Mhikky scored for us. Last year's attackers drew a blank (no surprise there).
Last year's attackers appear to be continuing to do what they did last season.
Without DDG, our defence isn't particularly good, but once Smalling and DDG play, I think we'll be "okay".
I really hope Ibra delivers. We need that guy to score goals.

Still, this is pre-seasons, so I am not worried at this stage.
I am frustrated though, that last year's attackers (who were woeful) continue to be woeful in the early stages of pre-season.

Pre season is about match fitness so I don't really care about the results. In a real match competition we will see the truth of Jose's tactic and system. However the players were so poor today as an individual.

Keeping players fit will be a big bonus, we always seem to have lots of injuries, so to start a season with a full quota will be great. Still have severe doubts about Jones, Rojo and Memphis though.

Nobody said Tuchel isn't a good manager. We are saying Ancelotti is a much better manager which is a fact.
That is an opinion, not a fact. Carlo had a far longer career, and won his CLs with a legendary Milan and a brilliant Real side. Things you hardly can hold against Tuchel.

Ancelloti has a poor league record actually for a manager of his caliber. The Bayern squad is significantly stronger than Dortmund's and should see them through but it's a stretch too far to completely rule out a Dortmund challenge.

For as much as this match doesn't really matter, I do recall how putrid we looked during Moyes' only preseason. I guess, in short, it could go either way and Mourinho is obviously not David Moyes :wenger:

The over-reactions are amazing. More amazing than the fact that Rojo is employed as a footballer - he is one of the worst players I have ever seen in our shirt.
Agreed, a really mediocre one + injury prone

Never understood that signings, a classic lvg brain fart.

The problem we have is that in early pre-season the teams get changed left right and centre, that is why they are just for fitness levels. Dortmund had better fitness levels and some continuity to their team. It helps a lot.

Don't we all? :D

Still prepared to give them time under the Jose regime though, they can still turn it around.

Our squad is smaller this season, though, and there is a good chance some of our players might be a bit too satiated on a national level from 4 consecutive championships.

There is no way this Dortmund team would finish even within 10 points the tally Bayern would end up stacking & you can quote me on that. :)

Hm, I think that Emre Mor looks pretty good or Dembele, I've not decided yet. I'm sure we'll go 50/50 with Bayern getting Dembele and us getting Mor.
I'm going to go ahead and say that we will get Dembele while Mor will end up at Stokecelona.

You however will get Aubameyang at 550k p.w.

Mourinho on Dortmund defeat: they are at a more advance stage of pre-season than us, the engines are different, it was Formula 1 v Formula 3.

One thing is for sure, Mourinho has his work cut out for him with this squad. Too many unmotivated our just naff players with no drive. A few injuries and we're going to struggle badly.

Before anyone starts worrying about the result don't forget that we beat Real Madrid 3-1 during a friendly in 2014, and we all remember how that season turned out.

Not really sure about this. We are behind in our pre season... But why play them then?

Can't see how a 4-1 loss does much for the fragile confidence of our squad. Not even close to our first team but I'm not a fan of these massive pre season behemoth tours at all.

They were tailing us by just 5pts until the 2nd to last matchday in the previous season. Prepare to be quoted:)

That was dire. We looked exhausted and lacked ideas in the middle. Bailly looked the opposite of himself, as he did against Wigan.

Some teams seem to play quite a few games more locally against lower opposition before the go off on these jaunts, so the fitness levels are further along. Would we be better off doing that, rather than sending players out to punishing conditions too early? Just curious.

No one should give a feck about the performance and the result. Sure, the performance was shite, but it means feck all. It's all about imroving the players' physical condition and Dortmund are clearly ahead in their preparations. It really showed.

Oh and this Slig guy is like a teenage schoolgirl that's just got her first period and hates everything and everyone as a result. It's not even remotely amusing.
I agree with the first paragraph.

For the second: calm down a little bit.

I haven't watched the game but a quick look to the stats give you an impression that the defense literally collapsed once Rojo started to play. Is that true?

They've just had one pre-season game so far, a 1-0 loss v Bayern.
That's good news. Hopefully Jose doesn't experiment with Depay up front and Miki on the left this time. Pre season or not I don't want to lose this one.
