Miss Nani.. what I'd give for him to be in our squad right now. I'd swap him for Young and Memphis in a heart beat.

Classy interview. Good to see like Berbatov, his shoddy treatment at the end hasn't tarnished his memories and pride for the club.

Not at all his fault, but my god how sick I am of this guy.. (nothing to do with the content of this article mind.) Cue the same old Nani discussions..
What a strange comment to make about someone who heavily contributed to one of our most successful ever periods.

Have some great memories of him, when we were last at the top.

Barely anyone came out the Moyes regime with any real credit.

Let's hope this year is the one that gets us back up there.

Hope he does well there. Moyes handled the situation with him awfully, but he did so with every other situation too to be fair

Such an underrated player during his time here. Was fantastic and on the verge of Ribery, Robben levels of performance, with him scoring or setting up something silly like 40 goals in his last 40 appearances, until Carragher did his shin in a tackle that should have warranted a red card. And even though he was inconsistent since then, he was never afforded the luxury of playing himself into form like Rooney, Valencia, and Young were. The latter two especially, were painfully average players at this point yet they played constantly. While the latter was pandered to during almost the whole time he has been here, and the legacy of that pandering is there for all to see.

I don't know why Fergie never looked at him the same after that day even though he was our best player during the period when Rooney was in the middle of his strop, and along with Berbatov and Chicharito's goals, won us the league that season. Rather than living up to the stereotype, he showed up when his team needed him the most that season, and it really should have signalled the start of something special for Nani at Old Trafford.
He gets a bad rep from some United fans, and I never understood why. He was no less infuriating than Ronaldo, even when he was at his best, yet they never took him to their hearts. I wonder if these same fans would have turned their noses up at him in the last couple of years, when our team was begging for pace and skill out on the wing?

His performances during the Euoro's was something of a throwback to the Nani of 2009-2012, and I honestly thought he was Portugal's best player during the tournament, and again, went against the stereotype and dragged them past the group stages when Ronaldo didn't show up.

I'll always wish Nani well, and I'll always remember some of his sumptuous goals for us. His solo run and finish against Bolton, his screamers against Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs, his beautiful touch and pass past Hart in the Derby, and his impudent dinks over the keeper against Spurts, Everton and Chelsea.

Thanks for the memories, Nanners and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I see him rock up at Atleti within a season or two. La Liga is made for him and I hope he finally gets the recognition he deserves from the wider media and football fans in general.

Was the main reason I was torn between Portugal and France (Paddy/Martial) in the Euro final. He was always maligned and overlooked but at his peak was one of the, if not the, best winger in the world and he was always committed to us.

I also think he has been more important than Ronaldo has for Portugal everytime I've seen him play for them

Loved watching Nani in top form. Felt like he was on the verge of being world-class in 2011 but never kicked on from there. Would have been interesting to see if Mourinho would have rated/played him had he arrived straight after Fergie, and if he could've got the best out of him if he did.

Always liked Nani. Too inconsistent to have as a regular starter before we went totally shite and still didn't use him, but seemed like a decent guy and put in some very good performances on his day.

Was and will always be better than Valencia. Its a damn shame that Valencia was prioritised.

Absolute class during that 2010-2012 period. Even including a season in 2011 where he registered 9 goals and 19 assists in the PL, I really didn't appreciate enough how fantastic that was back then.

Scored some screamers too, I'll never forget the fear I felt every time he attempted his somersaults. I was always scared that he'd mess it up and break something

His last minute winner against City in the Community Shield will always be one of my fav United goals.

You must question the club's sanity when we let him leave for £4M in his prime of his career. And start Young ahead of him. We deserved to fail in the last 3 years.

He wasn't adaptive enough to cope with our failing midfield in Fergie's last years, contract wrangling didn't help as well. I still remember that game in the COC against Chavski when he scored a wonderful goal from a one-two with Anderson, only to lost the ball at the last minute of extra time which lead to us conceding the equaliser. We ended up losing 5-4.

Was pretty telling that even in the 10-11 campaign when he was our POTY, Fergie dropped him in the CL and big games during title run in.

Off topic, but the amount of injury time winners we've scored against City really is hilarious. I can think of 4 recent ones just off the top of my head.

Owen, Scholes header, Nani, RVP free kick. Any I'm missing?

Nani's main problem was consistency. When he was good he was world class and when he was bad he was championship or league 1 level. This meant that he found it difficult to stay in the team compared to someone like Valencia who didn't have as much ability as him. Valencia's performances were not as inconsistent as Nani's and that's why he stayed in the team.

I remember around the time that the rumours of us selling him popped up, this video was posted. It really made me want us to keep him and get him back to his best. Definitely worth a watch!

It was a privilege to watch him at his best and I was really pleased for him at the Euros.

He actually started the Moyes season well but had a shocker against West Brom and got frozen out.

I'm not sure why I'm so fond of the cnut, maybe it's because he was underappreciated.

SAF played him against Real Madrid at home (very important game). Nani did well until that incident which virtually ended his United career. It's understandable in a scenario SAF stayed for another year and sold Nani because the disappointment from that incident. The twist lies with Moyes giving a new fat contract but then didn't use him, then LVG isolated him and sold him, and ironically Nani finally shows true maturity in his game!

But he almost literally didn't play him at all that season until that game, which was more of an extended feck you to Rooney rather than anything else. And he quickly discarded him soon after as well and ignored him even moreso.

I always liked him, no he didn't sustain his top level for us long enough, and yes he was frustrating, but on his day he was exciting and that'd been something sorely lacking in the last three years. Ultimately it was probably best for him to move on.

I also like how respectful he was towards Fergie and what he gave him, even though Fergie regularly dropped him and excluded him too. Shows the greatness of the man.

He was dropped after the Carragher injury, and he did quite well in the games he got after that - Fulham at home, West Ham away I think. But SAF had decided his formula for the big games and didn't deviate from that, sticking to it even v Barca...

I also don't blame him much for that league cup goal. He lost the ball in the final third when he was pretty isolated and we had numbers back. It took 2 stupid defensive calamities in the same move for us to concede that penalty.
Unfortunately I can't find the full video of his goal that game. He started the move with some insane skill on the right touchline near the half-way line.

HELLO
I don't think it's possible to be as creative as he is and be 'consistent' without being Messi/Ronaldo level player.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Might sound weird, but I really like the idea of him coming back here before his playing career's over - be lovely to have him on a rolling contract as a squad member when he's winding down. Wouldn't be on massive wages and somehow feels like he deserves another good season here...

Anyone with me, or am I totally out there on this one...?

The 'Carragher ended Nani's career' is bullshit. It looked bad but he was only bleeding, back playing the next week. He started 11-12 very well too including the screamer against Chelsea at OT, Community Shield goal against City, but had to share playing time with Young due to Valencia getting his favoured right wing position.

If he was really fecked because of the injury, he wouldn't have such a good season at Turkey and Euro.

As I said, it's not Nani's fault at all and it has nothing to do with hi as a player. It's the 'would have, should have, could have' discussions that always surround him on the caf every time his name comes up and the amount of people who still dwell on him. To be fair though, reading the thread now I'm happy to be proven wrong.

On his day he was unstoppable but when he was shit he was proper shit and probably the most frustrating player ever. I miss him though and id still have him over Young for sure.
