Not at all his fault, but my god how sick I am of this guy.. (nothing to do with the content of this article mind.) Cue the same old Nani discussions..
What a strange comment to make about someone who heavily contributed to one of our most successful ever periods. Not at all his fault, but my god how sick I am of this guy.. (nothing to do with the content of this article mind.) Cue the same old Nani discussions..
Best not look in the Rooney thread mate. What a strange comment to make about someone who heavily contributed to one of our most successful ever periods.
Yeah, so would I. Miss him.I'd swap him for Young and Memphis in a heart beat.

Off topic, but the amount of injury time winners we've scored against City really is hilarious. I can think of 4 recent ones just off the top of my head. His last minute winner against City in the Community Shield will always be one of my fav United goals.
Absolute genius goal that oneHis last minute winner against City in the Community Shield will always be one of my fav United goals.
SAF played him against Real Madrid at home (very important game). Nani did well until that incident which virtually ended his United career. It's understandable in a scenario SAF stayed for another year and sold Nani because the disappointment from that incident. The twist lies with Moyes giving a new fat contract but then didn't use him, then LVG isolated him and sold him, and ironically Nani finally shows true maturity in his game!Such an underrated player during his time here. Was fantastic and on the verge of Ribery, Robben levels of performance, with him scoring or setting up something silly like 40 goals in his last 40 appearances, until Carragher did his shin in a tackle that should have warranted a red card. And even though he was inconsistent since then, he was never afforded the luxury of playing himself into form like Rooney, Valencia, and Young were. The latter two especially, were painfully average players at this point yet they played constantly. While the latter was pandered to during almost the whole time he has been here, and the legacy of that pandering is there for all to see.
I don't know why Fergie never looked at him the same after that day even though he was our best player during the period when Rooney was in the middle of his strop, and along with Berbatov and Chicharito's goals, won us the league that season. Rather than living up to the stereotype, he showed up when his team needed him the most that season, and it really should have signalled the start of something special for Nani at Old Trafford.
He gets a bad rep from some United fans, and I never understood why. He was no less infuriating than Ronaldo, even when he was at his best, yet they never took him to their hearts. I wonder if these same fans would have turned their noses up at him in the last couple of years, when our team was begging for pace and skill out on the wing?
His performances during the Euoro's was something of a throwback to the Nani of 2009-2012, and I honestly thought he was Portugal's best player during the tournament, and again, went against the stereotype and dragged them past the group stages when Ronaldo didn't show up.
I'll always wish Nani well, and I'll always remember some of his sumptuous goals for us. His solo run and finish against Bolton, his screamers against Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs, his beautiful touch and pass past Hart in the Derby, and his impudent dinks over the keeper against Spurts, Everton and Chelsea.
Thanks for the memories, Nanners and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if I see him rock up at Atleti within a season or two. La Liga is made for him and I hope he finally gets the recognition he deserves from the wider media and football fans in general.
But he almost literally didn't play him at all that season until that game, which was more of an extended feck you to Rooney rather than anything else. And he quickly discarded him soon after as well and ignored him even moreso.SAF played him against Real Madrid at home (very important game). Nani did well until that incident which virtually ended his United career. It's understandable in a scenario SAF stayed for another year and sold Nani because the disappointment from that incident. The twist lies with Moyes giving a new fat contract but then didn't use him, then LVG isolated him and sold him, and ironically Nani finally shows true maturity in his game!
Because he was woefully inconsistent for us? Pace and skill mean little without consistency. He gets a bad rep from some United fans, and I never understood why.
He was dropped after the Carragher injury, and he did quite well in the games he got after that - Fulham at home, West Ham away I think. But SAF had decided his formula for the big games and didn't deviate from that, sticking to it even v Barca...He wasn't adaptive enough to cope with our failing midfield in Fergie's last years, contract wrangling didn't help as well. I still remember that game in the COC against Chavski when he scored a wonderful goal from a one-two with Anderson, only to lost the ball at the last minute of extra time which lead to us conceding the equaliser. We ended up losing 5-4.
Was pretty telling that even in the 10-11 campaign when he was our POTY, Fergie dropped him in the CL and big games during title run in.
As I said, it's not Nani's fault at all and it has nothing to do with hi as a player. It's the 'would have, should have, could have' discussions that always surround him on the caf every time his name comes up and the amount of people who still dwell on him. To be fair though, reading the thread now I'm happy to be proven wrong. What a strange comment to make about someone who heavily contributed to one of our most successful ever periods.
