I have just seen somebody on Sky say he voted for Trump because he is a good business man and in Ohia we are not very financially good.
As you'd expect.Classy speech form Obama.
No because people got used to the idea of him as a politician while he was governor of California. This feels so fecking surreal. A reality tv "star" being made POTUS. Anyone old enough to remember Reagan getting in? Did that feel anything like as weird?
Biden would have had a much better chance of winning than Clinton imo.Out of interest how do you think Joe Biden would have done had he been in Hillary's place?
You forget that people suggested he was only an actor, a front for a behind the scenes cabal that would run the country. No because people got used to the idea of him as a politician while he was governor of California.
He had given up the movies almost 20 years before he was elected and served as Governor of California. He at least built up a resume as Gov of a rather large state. Plus his movies were mostly crap so many people had forgotten about them. This feels so fecking surreal. A reality tv "star" being made POTUS. Anyone old enough to remember Reagan getting in? He didn't exactly dispel that notion. You forget that people suggested he was only an actor, a front for a behind the scenes cabal that would run the country.
And he'd primaried Ford in 76 and nearly won, of course. He had given up the movies almost 20 years before he was elected and served as Governor of California. He at least built up a resume as Gov of a rather large state. Plus his movies were mostly crap so many people had forgotten about them.
But there were plenty of jokes about electing a movie star and his movie "Bedtime for Bonzo"
Get out of the bubble you're living in.Based on what? You were in his corner....where do you live? And at least those codes won't be in the hands of Wiki-Leaks, or on one of Anthony Weiner's sexts.
Won't people stop making predictions. No way. Unless he changes considerably, minorities will feck him in 2020. btw, there's still an open lawsuit against him. He may not even survive his first year of that one goes against him.
Watched it. It really wasnt that bad.Just read his victory speech and, feck me, what a rambling, incoherent mess that was. If it's indicative of his preparation (which, judging by the debates - it really is) this lunatic is going to be running the world on the hoof. What a mess.
You get the government you deserve. I await to see the millions of Americans complaining about their healthcare again while crying to the media for a voice. It's the time I grab my popcorn and laugh as hard as I can.Health insurance companies and the GOP managed to cripple Affordable care Act. Now to finish it off. I'd be fuming if I was American.
Thanks for that. But youth turnout during the referendum was comparable to the 65+ turnout.

Problem wasn't so much that they didn't vote but that the 18-24 demographic is smaller than the 65+ one. 'Millennials' just got outgunned.
That alone should concern a lot of Americans.Won't people stop making predictions.
He's got more support than people are willing to admit.
He still lost most of the miinorities and still won handily.
Well that's definitely true. Criticism of feminism is limited to the internet and rarely seen in Hollywood or television. On the other hand, I've never seen a poll that doesn't have feminism at anything more than a third of the public. It has a monopoly on the media and a small influence on the public. Now that the coalition is dead, it means that we turn on each other. So let me bring out my own enemy: I think feminism has a greater share of voice than its actual share of mind, especially if you read many of the cosmopolitan/urban sources many of us do.
Reminds me of this film:Exactly, she has nothing to hide, and yet she continues to be hounded out.
Meanwhile the current president hasn't even released his tax forms, has about 8 sexual assault claims against him, and the first lady is an ex porn star.
The right has been primarying winnable candidates to pursue their long-term goals. Goldwater leading to the southern strategy leading to Reagan. William Buckley himself trying to hurt a Repubilcan mayor of NY. And of course, the Tea Party. And he'd primaried Ford in 76 and nearly won, of course.
True, but not many after him did either. He didn't exactly dispel that notion.

It's possible he may not actually do much, delegate congressional/legislative stuff to his veep, stay out of foreign affairs, and focus on his celebrity status. It's hard to predict anything about Trump in office and he might by and large just go along with what the Republican congress wants, e.g. repeal Obamacare.Just read his victory speech and, feck me, what a rambling, incoherent mess that was. If it's indicative of his preparation (which, judging by the debates - it really is) this lunatic is going to be running the world on the hoof. What a mess.
Yeah that has to be the lesson for the left... It wasn't even close. The popular vote is nice but earns you nothing, and Trump won the real election by a decent margin. Decent folks turned out for Trump, in large numbers. Democrats have to take a good long look at themselves and figure out how that could happen.Won't people stop making predictions.

Gutting to hear that.My roommate from college just posted a heartbreaking status on fb. After we graduated, he got into a car accident and won't ever be able to walk again. Therapy and surgery costs pushed his medical bills to above $1 million, which has all been covered by Obamacare.
Once it's repealed, he doesn't know how he's going to pay for his therapy and future medical costs.
Feck you, Donald Trump.
That's my hope, too. He'll get bored and leave it to his subordinates. It's possible he may not actually do much, delegate congressional/legislative stuff to his veep, stay out of foreign affairs, and focus on his celebrity status. It's hard to predict anything about Trump in office and he might by and large just go along with what the Republican congress wants, e.g. repeal Obamacare.
Err. Obamacare would be remodelled, under a different name of course, but medical support won't just vanish in the country. Expect a medicaid with bundles subsidies. My roommate from college just posted a heartbreaking status on fb. After we graduated, he got into a car accident and won't ever be able to walk again. That's a neat narrative and all, but many people in their lifetimes change their party affiliation or voting habits as they grow older, become wealthier (in theory), have a family, go into different income tax brackets, etc.I like krugmann.
Enough didn't turn up. Same with Brexit.
It's shitty that in most developed countries, elections are being decided by the declining part of the demographic because millennials won't turn up.
To say it wasn't close isn't really true. Margins in PA, MI and WI look like they'll be 1% or less, that's tens of thousands of votes out of 120m+.Yeah that has to be the lesson for the left... It wasn't even close. The popular vote is nice but earns you nothing, and Trump won the real election by a decent margin. Decent folks turned out for Trump, in large numbers. %So nothing like Brexit then?
Think he just wasn't reading a teleprompter speech like we are so used to.Watched it. It really wasnt that bad.
But we all know Trump, so it wasnt fooling anyone.
I can appreciate how a transcript doesn't paint the complete picture of what he's said but he's come across like this during the whole campaign; unprepared, random, scattergun...and loads of other words for a deranged loose cannon. Hopefully either his tax affairs or (alleged) misconduct with women will have him impeached sooner rather than later.Watched it. It really wasnt that bad.
But we all know Trump, so it wasnt fooling anyone.
Seems fairly clear to me that Dems now have to employ the same tactics that the GOP employed from 08 on.The right has been primarying winnable candidates to pursue their long-term goals. Goldwater leading to the southern strategy leading to Reagan. William Buckley himself trying to hurt a Repubilcan mayor of NY. And of course, the Tea Party.
Their will to win and vision should be copied.
Granted, viewed from that angle it is pretty close. I meant the EC count not really being close. To say it wasn't close isn't really true. Margins in PA, MI and WI look like they'll be 1% or less, that's tens of thousands of votes out of 120m+.
Not surprising...he won the battleground states that Obama won the past two elections. Trump resonated to them because they believe, hey, he's got business acumen...he should be able to help me make more money, get a better job and not have to suffer. It's a simple, straightforward rhetoric to people who are simple, straightforward thinking. The rural and suburban voters, many of them (majority), are white. For whatever reason, they resonated more to Trump and his proclaimed differences as a non-politician and as a money-making business man.I have just seen somebody on Sky say he voted for Trump because he is a good business man and in Ohia we are not very financially good.
I really think that was a vote against the political status quo of sorts.People are simply tired of the norm. I think the signs were there in the primaries when Jeb Bush was heavily trounced there.Yeah that has to be the lesson for the left... It wasn't even close. The popular vote is nice but earns you nothing, and Trump won the real election by a decent margin. Decent folks turned out for Trump, in large numbers.
