World XI in 5 years from now?

Pretty simple question. What do you guys think will be the best XI in the world in 5 years from now?

This would be my pick:

some notes:

There are a couple of players that would also be in my current World XI, namely Neymar, Alaba, Carvajal, and maybe De Gea. Pogba and Verratti are close, but as of right now Busquets and Modric are still ahead of them.

I picked Saul over Koke. Although Koke is better right now, I believe that Saul has a higher ceiling. Also, judging by the amount of distance he covers per game, I don't think that Koke is going to have much left in his legs when he is 30.

Icardi is a controversial one. He will be 28 in 2021, his absolute prime, and IMO he has all the tools to be the best striker on the planet. The numbers he puts out (goals and assists) for a currently very mediocre Inter side are incredible.

I am being a touch ambitious in naming 4 Man Utd players, but I hope they develop the way they are expected to.

Luke Shaw will be lucky to even be at United in 4 years let alone a world 11.

He's getting to Smalling levels of over rated.

I think the talent is there in Shaw, but his confidence is shot due to a combination of his injury and being Mourinho'd. Even Felipe Luis struggled at Chelsea, but he's in terrific form for Atletico now. I don't doubt that the likes of Alaba and even Rodriguez are better young LB's (Especially Alaba) right now, but I am having my fingers crossed that Shaw will develop like them.

I'm setting an alarm for 5 years now!

Great idea though. That front six is pretty much what I would pick except I would go with Gabriel Jesus > Icardi. I know he isn't proven in Europe" yet but that's my guess.

For defense though I'd probably bet on different players. Italy always has at least one top defender in the world. If its not Romagnoli or Rugani in 5 years then there will definitely be some unknown Italian kid with the destiny to be the heir to Scirea/Baresi/Nesta etc. Speaking of Italians, while he might not overtake De Gea by then I really have a good feeling about Donnarumma. His resume at his age is already almost on par with the true legendary outfield players like Pele and Maradona that were already competing with top class players as teens. Something about when I watch him too, he has a maturity well beyond his age already.

Also I'll just give a shout to my favorite young holding mid Casemiro who I remember watching at one of those U- tournaments 5-6 years ago and being very impressed with his all around play. Remember thinking going to Madrid was not the best career move and I lost track of his career for a year or two but have been happy in the past 2 years he has broken through to the first team. My personal favorite young holding mid even more than Krychowiak.

Heh. Neymar, Pogba, Dybala and Verratti seem to be nailed on. It's hard to think there might be someone better at those positions in 5 years. Rest is tricky...

donnarumma, ?, boateng, romagnoli, alex sandro, kroos, verratti, pogba, neymar, dybala, messi

Nearly put Hazard on the left, think he's only getting better under Conte and can be great by then. Asensio is pretty much a shoe-in to be different but he looks like a great prospect and could potentially replace Ronaldo in that position and I'd imagine he'd be nearing his peak in 5 years when he's 25 and will be a star for Real. Halilovic looks great too but not sure how he's getting along at Hamburg.

Absolutely. 4 or 5 years ago Bale was about to be loaned out to Forest or Birmingham. There will be one or two 14 or 15 year olds now who we've never even heard of who will be bordering on super stardom in five years time and probably walk into a world eleven.

Good thread.

It's encouraging that it's pretty realistic we will have at least 2 world XI players in our team in 4 years time.

The lack of Griezmann in any of the teams so far is astonishing. he's only 25 and already one of the best in the world. in 4 years he'll be in his prime.

Remember how 5 years back people were sure of Javier Pastore being a Ballon D'or winner and Mario Gotze being a leading world superstar?

Thread needs way more United players. Where's Rashford, Lingard, Smalling and Jones?

Nearly impossible to predict as new stars will emerge but I'd say from what we know:

Donnarumma

Bellerin
Bailly
Giminez
Alaba

Verratti
Pogba

Griezmann
Dembele
Neymar

Dybala

Jack Wilshere was going to lead England to glory as well, and seemed to be a muppet's dream signing on here for a couple of years. I never saw the appeal in him. Little gobshite with knees made of biscuit.

Neymar, Pogba, De Gea and Verratti will be in it. Not sure about the others, maybe Carvajal - in 5 years we'll see so many new names! A few from Weigl/Dembele/Dybala/Varane/Alaba will be in it, but not all of them

I think we potentially have DDG, Bailly, Shaw (if he gets his finger out), Martial and Pogba who could be there. Add in Greizman, and potentially another CM like Verratti and we could make up half the team:drool:

The problem is there are probably 14-16 year olds who may well be the next ROnaldo or MEssi that havent appeared yet, who could stake a claim, though usually teenagers dont make this list.

Hazard - Dybala - Neymar
Think the hardest position to predict is defensive midfield, and strikers after that.

I don't think he will, he is in his prime now but there will probably be players with more upside in the younger age groups, Neymar/Hazard hybrids who can potentially win Ballon d'or, Griezmann for all his consistency isn't at that level imo.

I don't see why every team has Pogba or Weigl(when did everyone start rating him as the standout dm) in it?

Only guarantee for me would be Veratti and Neymar, everyone else is a question mark.

What about putting Zlatan up top since he hasn't reached his peak yet.:)

I'm not sure why Verratti is a guarantee - he plays in the French league. Pogba is a better player - he's already appeared in the Fifa World 11.

Not sure about that. Apart from Godin and probably Boateng, most would have appeared somewhere in a decent enough sample imo.

Thing with these predictions is that it never takes into account the fact there might be unheard of talents breaking through out of nowhere.

I'd say ..

DDG
RB CB Bailly Alaba
Verratti Weigl
Pogba
Dembele CF Neymar

Dybala, Verratti and Messi are sure things in my book, id have Neymar as well in that company but you never know with brazilians, wouldnt surprise me if he was crap after 5 years....and went with one optimistic pick in our Gomes, probably wont be there but the girl can hope

I find it interesting how there's a handful of people that have mentioned Ousmane Dembele, but no one has mentioned Emre Mor yet. In my opinion, out of the Borussia Dortmund wonderkids, Mor has the highest ceiling.

Then again, my two favourite players to watch are Messi and Dybala, so maybe I'm just biased in favour of short left-footed dribblers.
