We need one player to stretch the play from the wing. Both Mkhi and Mata drift into the centre giving us no width. Bring on Martial in the 2nd half and we'll win.

Got the feeling Rashford still has to learn how to be an area player when there's no space.

This full back playing on the wrong foot is not on. Darmain has to stop his run every time he receives it. And it's like we are playing without a CF. Hull's CBs have had it easy.
He's made a couple of crosses with his left, one which resulted in Mata's chance.

Sometimes you stop because there aren't good targets inside the box.

I'd let some of our guys shoot at the goal for a whole day. Can't believe how often we couldn't even hit the target.

We are clueless without Carrick. It's the right decision that he was rested tonight but we look absolutely lost without him conducting our midfield.

The less said about Rooney, the better. Rashford looks lost. Only Mata & Mkhitaryan look decent and they have both conspired to miss glaring chances.

Martial should come on for Rooney. Mkhitaryan can tuck on the right or just behind Rashford. Darmian has no football brain. Surely, Shaw should be fit enough for Hull.

The 1st half has been a tad disappointing. We made Hull look like Athletico Madrid.
Agree with everything bar Mkhi and Mata part. Both had decent/good little spells but its not enough when you consider the quality of the opposition.

Okay performance but wayward shooting once again. Think the team aren't used to playing with Rashford up front, he doesn't seem to be getting the kind of service that suits him. Think we'll win the game, but not sure I fancy our chances of a big lead for the second leg.

Relax, we battered them. We're fresh, sharp and unlucky not to be a couple of goals up. The goals will come, Hull looked like they were on their knees at half time then.

Imagine having to chase Miki, Rashford, Pogba and Valencia all game.... players at Hulls standard will last an hour tops, they're already diving in and getting booked.
    Nah not for me.

We've had much more of the ball but we've barely created anything. It's been mostly long range shots that fly over the bar. Mkhi had our one good chance when he hit it wide.

I've still enjoyed it though. It's clear that going in at 0-0 will annoy Jose where as last year Van Gaal will have been delighted with going in goalless.

It just hurts seeing Darmian on the ball so much in good positions while doing nothing with it. He hasn't been that bad, but feck me how pointless he is when we're dominating....

I think sometimes it must just be the mood you're in when your watching the game
That's bollocks! I always look forward to a United game, always have done. Wake up thinking yes...United play today. Was exactly the same under Moyes, and LvG, except during these two managers after the game it started to feel like a chore. That didn't change with me looking forward to the game with excitement.

He has played some good balls in early on. Thought he did quite well so far. He's clearly way more comfortable on the right.

If LVG's United suddenly put in a performance like that we'd all be wanking ourselves off in the match day thread. People have short memories.

As usual our pathetic finishing prevents us from having a straightforward game.

feck off with the overreactions that this is LVG football. We wouldnt even take a shot in the first half. We have been good, just end product has been lacking.
if anyone thinks this is even close to LVG football, they should probably find a new sport to watch.

We've been carving them open at will, but keep monstering it over the bar.

And have two fullbacks who would possibly explode if they supplied an assist from a cross

Possible reasons Rooney has been so incredibly shit in the first half:

    1. He's trying to be like Inzaghi. He thinks that by being anonymous he'd be bound to pop up with a goal.

    2. He's been instructed to give space to Mata so the team can play proper football. He's taken that instruction to heart and stayed as far as possible from the ball.

    3. He's testing the limits of Mourinho. How shit does the captain need to play before he's subbed off. He tried for a first half sub but he's settled for a HT one.
All these points can be summed up as "Silent domination".

It's not like he's a don at attacking on the right.
So on the left he was never going to be above sh!T

Darmian's done well in this game. Don't really get why he's receiving flak here. Two good crosses and good interplay. He's not the best but has been fine today.

The problem is a system that doesn't suit us, 4-4-2 with two inverted wingers is over-complicating things.
Both forwards have been poor, Rooney for Martial, putting Martial on the left should do the trick.

    Bloody drama queens in here.

Have played well, dominated them, just lacking that bit of precision in front of goal. Really don't like Darmian in general, but he has been decent so far, so credit where credit's due - not deserving of the hate, take your blinkers off. Mata doing well, as is Valencia. Mkhitaryan showing some great runs. Rooney a little anonymous, so too Pogba but has pulled off some nice passes. Rashford very average.

The goal will come, it's no use throwing toys out of the pram, a wee talk at halftime and I'm confident they'll come out with intensity and pile on the pressure, that way, we'll crack them. They're just sitting so deep and not allowing any freedom in the box, pretty standard.

Everyone needs to calm their tits.

I think the big difference is that under Van Gaal the gameplan probably would have been to go in at half time 0-0. Where as Jose looked pissed off going down the tunnel.
