Vitesse, KSV, Rangers,
He cant since that would require him to put Hazard on bench.
Cant play a back 4 with Alonso, Cahill and Luiz in it. A 4-2-4 would require an upgrade of atleast two of those three players wihch could cost 80m+

Optimal choice would be to stick with 3-4-3 and go for better players.
who said about having those in it.
It might take a while but he might gradually move us that way remembering we have players coming through
Switched to 4 at the back during the match v Stoke as well

Can't see him changing from a system that's working so well. It'd seem pointless.
because eventually like all systems/formation it will get found out ...needs to be thinking ahead ready to change when required.
We have been found out before resting on our laurels.
This one area that Spurs are a little bit stronger when they have a first choice 11 out is that they can change to a 3 or 4 at the back seemlessly

Why on earth would we even be going for Rashford anyway? Good player. Nothing more. Maybe he can start for a West Ham or something at this stage. Not Chelsea. At this moment, he's nowhere near "I'm challenging for the CL and CL and this is my starting CF" level. We don't have time for that. If we wanted to be patient with a young striker, we'd bring in Tammy Abraham and groom him. Next.
This.

Utd won't sell, he probably doesn't want to leave and Chelsea would be looking for a more experienced forward if Costa did leave.

As for Mata, yes Jose does not like Mata and last week we heard the clearest hint of that. Jose would have never sold DiMaria and never bought Mata. Its not a narrative.
Except he didn't say that. Mata has been one of our most important players this season, despite the purchase of Pogba and Mhiki, but you keep believing what suits your own narrative.

You are truly deluding yourself if you think centre forwards strikers like playing out wide. Sturridge left Chelsea exactly for that reason.

And for the nth time, defensive over Joss freezing out inexperienced players. Its not even contestable.

Edit: Now that I think of it Rashford is very similar to Sturridge. I would love to have him here when he leaves United (though we have the same problem with youth so he will probably end up at some club like arsenal of liverpool)
Are you really trying to compare your 'youth' to United's? Chelsea have a shambolic record for youth, so to claim we have the "same problem" is laughable. Rashford has played over 1100 minutes in the premier league. Jose loves him, and is clearly trying to develop him.

Im a Chelsea fan and I will be the first to admit we definitely have a problem at the club with incorporating youth, but I have faith in Conte and a lot of our youngsters over the next few years to change that. Silly to deny we have that problem though.

However lets not act like Jose would promote youth if there is an even slightly equal option with more experience or who is older then he certainly wont. Players like Rashford and martial are the exception out of your squad because they've already broke through into the first team, had Jose been manager they certainly wouldn't have had that chance in the first place.

the thing with youngsters is chelsea is a big club. A club that wants to challenge for the PL title every season and consider a season of not challenging for the title a failure. At a club like that, you simply can't afford to wait on young players to develop. Either they become good enough quickly enough, or you move them on.

That goes for every big club, even arsenal

Not really. Jose has his share of the blame but that's down to Roman really. Jose hasn't been manager for all of the last 14 years mate.
the other managers did at least try to introduce a couple of the youngsters.

Cannot see how its Roamns fault...he has invested a fortune in that academy

Sure Jose is the reason for Chelsea's shambolic record in promoting academy players.
one of the reasons....especially with his 2nd stint when the acadamy was starting to produce.

Give him his dues though, he along with Brendan Rogers and one or two others layed down the blue print for getting the academy to where it is nowadays as one of the most succesful in Europe when it comes to producing players that go on to play at a decent level.
It was always a 10 year plan..but got stalled along the way due to changes in managers.
Jose had many chances in his 2nd stint to carry on the work of previous of introducing and playing more of certain youths but seemed to get the hump with one or two of them and left them on the sidelines for ages

Yeah, it was Jose. Nothing to do with managers before and after him.

For a record this season (in PL) Aina played 9 mins, RLC played 22 mins, Chalobah played 71 mins, Ake who was having brilliant season was called back and played 0 mins in PL.

Our managers simply don't have the balls to play youngsters & that includes Conte. Even Zidane is giving gametime to Madrid youth despite occupying the toughest managerial job in football.

remember this

The Portuguese coach says he will shoulder the blame if 19-year-old Baker, 17-year-old Brown and 16-year-old Solanke do not make it for Chelsea and England - with all three staying under his tutelage at Stamford Bridge this campaign along with French youngster Jeremie Boga.

‘My conscience tells me that if, for example, Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players in a few years, I should blame myself,’ Mourinho said.

‘They are part of a process the club started without me. In this moment, we have players who will be Chelsea players. And when they become Chelsea players, they will become England players, almost for sure.

‘At 16 or 17 I don’t think it’s good for them to go somewhere else to play, like in the Championship. At 17 they have to train with us and they have to learn with us. They will learn a lot.'

That was his "honeymoon period" with Chelsea and he was just pandering to the board at the time. He does not care about youth development or anything else bar his own trophy haul.

Which youngsters? Marco Asensio? Played a bit at the beginning of the season and started well, since then, he's had mostly cameos, aside from the copa del rey(where he scored a wonder goal against sevilla). And he's good enough to be an emergency sub.

As we saw with cristiano ronaldo, if you're good enough you will make it. i know that is a crazy high standard to reach, but he played for sporting (not a big club) but he worked his ass off to stand out and be arguably the best player in the world. when chelsea send players on loan they expect the player/s to impress, if they don't do that then they are obviously not cut out to make it at chelsea. one example is traore, he went off to vitesse, did decent, came back and had some cameos but didn't impress much, so we sent him to ajax, but he's turned out to be abysmal.

it is the players' fault if they cannot work hard and impress. the other problem is the young players earning so much at a young age. what incentive is there for the majority of them when they can go on loan to a mediocre club and get paid well for doing so? the stand out players are the ones who work hard, show dedication and impress when given the chance to do so. i know for certain, if ake gets called upon he's going to do a job for us, because he's just naturally a quality young player. he may never be "world class" but he's a good, solid young defender at the moment.

I agree with you on that Lukaku is a sub-par player when being mentioned next to the likes of Kane, Icardi, Morata etc. and it would be a big big mistake for Chelsea to sign him again.

That said, Chelsea have no chance of getting Kane (even United's chance of having him is negligible). when Kane leaves spurs it will be for £100m+ surely. I mean Costa could go for £100m this summer ffs. And he is 5 years older than Kane (and only marginally better).

If Chelsea were to be really shrewd in the transfer market this summer the player they should go for is Rashford. He is unlikely to get game time for United going forward and will probably force a move by January window next year.
I'd rate Lukaku now better than any of those you've just named, nevermind what he'll be in a few years. You'd really have Kane over Rom? No chance for me. I think Lukaku is superior to Kane in just about every facet of his game.

I think if Lukaku moves to a massive club with top class players around him he'll become a world class striker. One of the best in the world. I'd rather that be back here at Chelsea than for one of our rivals, tbh.

Agreed, though Icardi is close:

It's a bit odd to me that people are criticizing Lukaku to the extent that they are-he already compares favourably to Costa by pretty much every measurable parameter and is only 23. Why aren't people factoring in his room to grow?

I'm also not sure why Morata is in the conversation to be honest. His stats look good on a per minute basis but I'm unconvinced he could maintain them if playing every match instead of coming on late against tired defenses.

I said on here a couple of years ago that Lukaku isn't suited to a top side, stand by it. Everton's style of plays suits his game. His touch and actual on the ball ability is still pretty average for the level he plays at.

I'm not his biggest fan either but I think of it like this - his first touch may be poor at times and he can be very frustrating on the ball. But so does Diego Costa. He's infuriating sometimes because his touch is woeful and he holds on to the ball too long before releasing it or just runs down blind alleys.

Both Diego and Lukaku are certainties to get you 20+ goals a season but with Lukaku we wouldn't have to worry about him throwing tantrums or exploding on the pitch. Being a genuine Chelsea fan would also mean he'd truly want to be here as well unlike Costa.

The potential fee we'd have to pay for him will be crazy but you think about the fact that he could very well go on to be the all-time PL scorer if he continues this pace and it's worth it. You think about the absurd fee United payed for Pogba and he's not even a match winner nor does he regularly dominate matches. Lukaku does those things.

Wait, people are criticizing Lukaku's all round game & then praising Icardi who does practically nothing outside the box?

Say what you want about Lukaku but at least he can create his own chances. Can't say the same for most strikers.

Chelsea will sign Lukaku. 1. He himself says he has unfinished business there. 2. He is a big fan of them 3. Theyll need a main man next year, as Costa will go.

Id be very surprised if Lukaku is anywhere but Chelsea come end of summer window

Haha I think that's just me mate, and to be fair I'm a fan of both. Lukaku I rate the highest of any of them, what makes him stand out for me compared to any other striker mentioned is his ability to dribble. His passing stats are notably worse, but a lot of that I put down to the relative quality of his teammates-if no one is making good runs into space then passing becomes a lot harder.

My dream summer just about would be selling Costa to Tianjin for €120m if that offer is real, buying Lukaku for £70-75m, Nainggolan for €30m, Bernardo for €60m, and Sidibe for €25m. Then bring back Christensen and Traore. That would be an awfully good squad that could play in a variety of ways and challenge on multiple fronts IMO.

I guess that's one way to put it. I think as poor as Costa's first touch is, it's still better than Lukaku's. I also don't trust Lukaku to turn up when we'd really need him in big matches. But I guess he's got age on his side so he can get better. In summary, if Conte really wants him then I trust Conte's judgment and I'll see how it all plays out.

I hope Costa stay. I really like him. Perhaps because I always love to play with a striker like him on the field.

Lukaku, Icardi, Morata or Belotti is all okay if we get one of them. But among those four strikers, Lukaku I think he still is a big fan of our club and always has real feelings for Chelsea.

Im not sure . I never wanted him to leave but things have moved on . We play a different (better style ) under Conte so not sure Romelu is the best fit.

If Costa leaves which i think he will, i am sure you will end up with either Lukaku or Morata. Even both if Batshuayi goes.

There is a lot of media talk that Conte is going to be backed massively this summer. You have whatever Roman will give Conte, Nike money, Yokohama money, Oscar Bamford cash. I can absolutely see you spending 150m easy

I still doubt it'll happen. It's crazy to me that the market is so insane these days a Lukaku could go for £60m.

That's a ridiculous fee for Bernando Silva, don't you think? How's he worth 60m? Is €60m the new €20m? Sidibe seems just about right. We have no use for Traore tbh. There are other youngsters we have that I'd take ahead of him. Also, Nainggolan is getting up there in age. Sure he has enough years left in his legs? Especially with how he plays? Not that I wouldn't take him btw. If he gives us 3 great years, it'll be worth it.

I wouldn't mind Costa leaving if we got an adequate replacement tbh. I'm tired of the constant mood swings. He's a walking red card any day and we're lucky Conte has been able to keep that side of him supressed this season to a large extent. He's a grown man but throws a fit like a 5 year old (even in training) and it's not like he's Suarez or Lewandoski on the pitch either. If the Chinese club are ready to shell out €120m, I say sell.

I actually don't think it's outrageous, considering that he only turns 23 in August and will almost certainly be hotly contested by several clubs. He's an incredible player; reminds me a lot of Hazard, especially the version of Hazard at Lille.

Nainggolan is just an unreal player; in my opinion Chelsea can lack goalscoring from central midfield. It's definitely a short term option as he'll be 29 in May, but I can't think of a player in the world with fewer weaknesses. He'd be perfect next to Kante.

Stalking? Dude this is a forum, you see posts and the one you disagree with you reply.

Re the game time, go and check the last 3 seasons to see how many youngsters played few mins for Chelsea and compare it to this season. Yeah, evil Jose spoiling Chelsea's reputation when it comes to promoting youth.
