Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Presumably we weren't even forced to offer this fee to him. He's not a vital player to us and yet we're giving him this wage. Just imagine what we'll pay the likes of Griezmann. This kind of money is presumably a drop in the ocean for us. Definitely a show of power, even though it wasn't intended as such.
A show of power.

Paying Jesse Lingard 100k a week, more than Liverpool pay Mané, or Spurs pay Dele Alli...

I can think of other ways to describe it, mate.

I think the likes of this fellaini and Carrick being reported getting new deals as well is whats wrong with Utd at the moment. Paying to keep average and has been players around. If we are going to move on and upwards this shouldnt be happening. Dele Alli is only paid £50,000 a week!

- Alli: key player at second placed club, 15 league goals and 5 assists, on 50k per week.
- Lingard: squad player at 6th placed club, 1 league goal and 2 assists, on 75-100k per week.

Says it all really.

United's wage structure isn't broken just because Lingard has renewed his deal. Ya'll need to understand that we'll never be able to justify these wages. But he's a first team squad player for United.

If you want to graft and stick to your trade and become part of the first team at United, the best paying club in England, then you'll get taken care of. Fair play to Jesse.

Everyone else looking at this from a player perspective will have their opportunity to get their money sooner rather than later. At the end of the day, the club doesn't have an obligation to you the player. You have to get what's yours now. One Dele Alli horror tackle and you could be fecked for life.

Happy to keep hold of him. Couldn't give a feck what he's being paid. He is the latest line in players hated on the caf because our posters once played football manager and now think they know everything despite never playing the game and watching it for abput 43 minutes and spending half of that match they watched thumping their little keyboards.

Spurs don't pay any of their players as well as we do. If Alli was with us, he'd be on 150k a week.

Yep. And then other clubs won't buy them cause of inflated wages and we're stuck with them. Our problem has been upper management for years. Who the fck decides these things?

We could have kept hold of him on the same contract or an increase up to maybe 40-45K i am sure would have done the deal.
Where was the panic? Were Barcelona sniffing for his signature??
I don't hate him....a local lad who gives his best and obviously loves the club. Every club needs squad players that can do a job....you just don't pay them 5 million a year I would suggest.
We are all paying his wages, either at the turnstile or for sky.

We obviously have a wage structure and we obviously have surplus available. If the club wants to pay Jesse that amount (and i'm interested to know who leaked that figure by the way, one source has written it's 75k a week) then who am i to argue? I'm not going to stop going to games.

There is a difference though, Herrera came in as an established player , and not a youth prospect.
He was nowhere as effective Alli has been for Spurs though. If Alli was here, assuming we bought him this summer, he would easily get 150 or more.

It isn't just Alli, but he allegedly now earns more than players like Dybala and Aubameyang who are top level forwards. Fair play to Lingard, he should seek whatever salary he wants. I'm just tired the club of overpaying average squad players.

That's because we generally pay higher wages than the other clubs. If Aubameyang was at a bigger club he would earn far more. Same with Dybala. Some clubs just pay more than others even though both may be considered big clubs.

I think we now have a free for all in the wage structure after Ibra/Pogba.
As the ticket prices go up then the game will get unaffordable for many. I don't mind paying top wages for world class players, paying world class wages to average, overrated, underachieving and underperforming players is an embarrassment in my book.

I agree. I was comparing Herrera's situation with Lingard's.

So Spurs pay less than we do (and as a side issue, seem to be doing just fine?) so we should just continue to pay higher wages and not match our proposed offer to ability, importance to club/team, risk of losing player, etc, like say...... Spurs seem to do?

... gotcha.

When all of your players are fit does he get anywhere near your starting XI? And that's just now when your team is average and in 6th place. What happens to him when you guys inevitably spend another £150-200m this summer? 6th choice midfielder on £100k?

It's just weird.

I don't think we have a permanent starting XI. It seems Mourinho is willing to play whoever is fit and in form to get the job done. Lingard is definitely in the mix.

Good to see that sane Chelsea fans think the same as sane United fans..... rather than a couple of people who seem amazingly blinkered/blaze.

You can add our manager and board into the blinkered/blaze category as well. Fortunately we have some highly intelligent people on the internet to expose all of this.

On the contrary, José loves a fixed, consistent first XI. It's what helped us win the league 2 years ago. I'm sure he'd have loved to do that with you guys but injuries prevented it.

I'd assume that when he's got more players in next season that's the plan.

Has Donald Trump tweeted his support for the new contract?

Fair enough, although this year we've had anything but that. Mkhitaryan didn't play initially, was out due to injury. Mata didn't feature for stretches, Martial has barely featured and Rashford has played less than many expected. I don't think he knows what he wants and is just going with whoever is in fit and in form at the moment.

He'll be at united for a long time now. Squad player or reserves only time shall tell.

You know I have such mixed feelings about him.
That annoying dance after scoring, I just can't stand it, its horrific......I nearly wish that he would spend the rest of his handsomely recompensed career at the club as a corner back to reduce the risk.

The latest dance is great. Long may it continue.
