Just saying in the Romero thread he is an excellent number two. But he still worries me at times

Think now DDG should come into the side.

What does the caf think?

Yes he should. Tough on Romero but that's the life of being backup keeper.

Yes he should. Romero is not even half the player and this is far too important a game for the club to take chances. We have the world's best keeper. Seems silly not to use him.

Romero has never convinced. Wasn't even first choice for his previous 2 clubs iirc.

What needs to be done needs to be done (no I'm not Michael Owen). The EL is crucial in getting CL so yes De Gea has to start.

I don't agree with dropping someone who has been performing well. What message does that send? Play well and then you'll get dropped? Love DDG but Romero has earned his place in this competition.

I dont think we will get top 4 so we really do need to win the EL and playing de Gea increases the chances of winning it since he is worldclass and Romero isnt.

Harsh on Romero and if we were guaranteed top 4 i would play Romero but we really do need to win the EL.

Obviously. The point of a backup keeper is to be backup.

Are we more likely to win if we play DDG? Yes. The argument doesn't extend beyond that.

Depends what's going on with DDG, if he's fully focused yes, but if his mind is already away with what ever summer holds for him then no.

Although Jose did make a point of saying Romero isn't the "Europa keeper" and he doesn't think of things like that.

Depends. If we mess up in the EPL, then start Romero in EPL and play De Gea in the Europa.

If not, then continue with Romero in goal. To be fair, he's been great most of the time.

Harsh on Romero but who cares, need to win and give ourselves the best chance to do so, that would mean DDG plays.

Would be harsh on Romero to be honest.
Agreed, but Jose has to do it. It can make a crucial impact. Romero nearly cost us dearly towards the end with that spilled ball and a few shaky moments from crosses. Why not use the best GK in the world when we need him the most?

If Jose wants to be "fair" to Romero he could give him some extra games in the league instead.

Yes, absolutely. Romero seems like a good bloke, with his feet on the ground. He'll understand.

DDG has made a few errors this season as well, and Romero seems to dominate the area a little better than DDG. We should keep Romero on goal for this competition.

harsh on Romero but De Gea is a better keeper who will create a more confident defence

100% yes. I like Romero, I think he's a decent keeper, but with Champions League at stake, let's not mess around. I felt very nervous towards the end tonight. Maybe it's the short sleeves and memories of Barthez?

I'd play De Gea even though he hasn't exactly been on top form. In an ideal world we'd be two or three up with ten minutes to go and then bring Romero on.

Romero brought us there, so he deserves to continue.

Yes please... if only because Romero's allergy of catching crosses is going to give me a heart attack.

DDG should start. Romero is a good backup and a quality keeper but DDG is one of the best keepers in the world and to bench him during the semis would not be good.

First of all I think if you make the decision that Romero plays EL, you can not just take that away from him when things start to become interesting. It shows a complete lack of trust to your player and I don't think he will want to remain at a club that has a complete lack of trust in him.

Secondly, Imagine dropping Romero for Dave and then Dave playing a really bad game and costing us the EL. Where do you go from there ?

Unless Jose feels that Romero is a liability at the back and will cost us points, I don't think he should just replace him with DDG because the stakes are higher for the club. Not unless a situation like this has been anticipated and discussed with Romero well beforehand.

Romero deserves the chance to be honest, would be a real snub

Don't think Dave will be overly impressed if he's left out and that's enough for me. He's also much better so it's a no brainer as much as it sucks for Romero but it is what it is.

Doesn't make any difference for me imo. Romero is doing very well in EL and saved us multiple times. Both of them will be good.

I think Jose will start DDG , though .

De Gea has to play. Romero can play in the final few PL games instead (IMO we'll be out of CL contention by then).

Stick with Romero, he might end up being our number one next season anyway.

You can reverse that argument though. What if Romero has an awful game and costs United the EL? I think the key difference here with other clubs is that they usually have CL qualification secured with their league ranking so they can afford playing the backup keeper. United at this point basically needs the EL to get CL football.

I would play De Gea now. Seems pretty to stupid to have one of the world's best goalkeepers on the bench in a competition that has become very important for us due to our league position

Romero for me. He's earned his spot.
