When was the last time we conceded more than 2 goals though? Chelsea like 6 months ago?

You just come across as overly negative for the sake if it
yeah I got told the same thing when I said early in the season we would not finish in the top 4. Still looking a better chance of being right on that one, then not.

I read that Celta rested 8 of their players last Sunday!! They are obviously really going for it
Our lads are resting since 2pm last Sunday.

It's not an issue nor should being knackered be used as an excuse heading into it.

Great to see Pogba & Mata back, Bailly too.

So two CB's and two of our three most-creative players this season all returning for this game. Good cause for optimism.

    De Gea

    Valencia Bailly Jones Blind

    Fellaini Herrera Pogba

    Mata Rashford Mkhitaryan

We suddenly look a heck of a lot stronger if Mata, Jones, Smalling and Pogba can immediately restart at top form. That's a big if though for at least the first three.

It's a big decision of where you throw Smalling and Jones in. It's not like the semis, Arsenal/Tottenham away are exactly easy re-introductions!

Don't think Jones, Smalling nor Mata will start. Mata off the bench I'd bet though.

Bailly and Blind at CB. Use Jones Smalling for the weekend.

Celta play high tempo and like possession, don't they. That should suit us. If Pogba and Herrera both start then we'll be more than capable of playing around their pressure, and Rashford will find the sort of space up front which he needs to be dangerous.

Have to be more positive now with a few players back. Bailly can go full whack into this game knowing that he will be rested for the Arsenal game. Fellaini and Pogba come back into midfield, with Mkhitaryan on one flank to freshen up that side. Valencia, Blind, Darmian, Herrera, and Rashford are just going to have to keep playing.

    de Gea
    Valencia Bailly Blind Darmian
    Herrera Fellaini Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Rashford Martial
    ---
Romero; Smalling/Jones, Young; Carrick, Mata, Lingard; Rooney

Lingard may start, but Martial's last 2-3 performances (and being selected ahead of Lingard) make me think Jose will trust him here. I don't think Mata will start a game like this yet - he may come off the bench and then start at Arsenal. Well, everyone on the bench here will start against Arsenal if we come away from this tie with a result that gives us a higher chance of progressing than Celta.

Even if it's just a mental thing, knowing that we can field those 18 players and it looks so much stronger on paper than our last few fixtures, will hopefully give us the confidence to at least come away with a score draw.

I would not rely on Smalling or Jones. These guys will let us down at the last moment.
And lets not forget that Smalling and Jones have not played in several months. You can't expect them to start playing in top form. They'll need at least 3-4 games before they hit their stride and by then, I expect them to be re-injured.

    This, I agree with.

Yep. At least the "Injury brothers" could feasibly both start away at Arsenal to give Bailly a much needed rest.
I'd trust Jose to put a decent shift in whoever we field.

He better do, as I'm in the wrong end on Sunday, wellying out £65 for the privilege (face value!)

Can't be worse than sat watching Schweingsteiger improbably cast as chief attacking mid/closer down last year, and watching Darmain trying to deal with Sanchez. 3-0 down after about 20mins was it?!

    Fellaini will start this....

do we need him against what I think are a fast, passing side? I could see him struggling in possession

in saying that his best game in a United shirt - away at Juanfield under Van Gaal he was great at beating their high press in providing an outlet at number 10

The inspiration of Celta Vigo's coach? None other than Marco Bielsa. :nervous:

We need to make sure we're still in this tie. We don't want it to be like the other semi finals played over the last couple of days where the semi-finalists have effectively sealed their place in the finals. That means we need to score at least one and limit them to no more than 2 tomorrow.

Mourinho has to be careful not to go uber defensive though. I feel a 0-0 won't be enough as I can easily see a score draw occurring at OT and/or them knocking us out on away goals.

We are playing Celta Vigo you know, they really aren't the big bad wolf you are making out, so talk of 'staying in the tie', and 'limit then to two' is a little over the top, I'm not saying it'll be all plain sailing, but we really should be getting through this fairly comfortably.

In Europa we have been really compact, tough, hard to break through and that's the game from us I expect tomorrow. Don't let them have their game, there will certainly be pressure from them from the go so we need to live through that and take the game to them.
Of course we have big trouble scoring goals but a nice 0:1 or 0:2 would do.

They're nothing special but then neither are we. Throw in our injury list and unfit players, and I really don't think it's unreasonable or over the top to say what I've said. Especially considering we just scraped past Anderlecht and our home form, while good in Europe, has been dodgy at best.

Mourinho will have us wary against a good team on their own patch. It was the same away to teams with Fergie. In fact, the only team I remember blowing away away from home was under the great Moyesey against Neverkusen.

    I remember that game.

It was so weird because it was the ONLY game that he started Kagawa at number 10 in and we looked like a completely fantastic team. He never tried it again, and instead stuck with Rooney-RVP for the rest of the season.

Hopefully Uefa have told the referee they want a Ajax - United final. We need some of that Madrid/Barca decision making

He will surely rest Baily. He talked about how many games Baily has played. He will be foolish not to rest Baily, we don't know how long Jones and Smalling will be available for. I think one of Jones or Smalling will start along side Blind. That's the best scenario.

Starting Smalling and Jones same time will be a disaster, they can tangle into each other and be out again.

    THE VIRTUES
is a team of Mourinho very style. Equipment which is enclosed well, board lines and leaves much speed with diagonal passes to the wings. Costs to endanger closed equipment, such equipment before the danger is generated with hanging balls and played second, leaving the ball facing front or giant means they have. They are very dangerous overlooked (very powerful passing game players) and speed. There are times where you give away possession of the ball so that you trust and catch you on the counter. (Pogba (for Tucu), Carrick or Ander (for Wass) have these ensayadísimos passes Lingard, Rashford, Martial ... those who put up that easily fall band and the central unsettle you)

And then there 's the Mkhytaryan magic that can appear at any time or have Radoja up the whole game and be eclipsed.

    DEFECTS
Do not push or defend well, it's a team that let you play .. His defense is positional based on bringing the two lines and leave few lines pass by accumulation, but when you get over a one on one will you make sure danger of goal because being out of step changes in labeling. It is an uncaring and sometimes listless team during the 90 minutes.

    OPINION
is an eliminator to play like against Real Madrid or Barcelona. You can make a child if you raise them an open game, with print speed that up, but against Celta in much more danger it has Rostov and Anderlecht. If you you play one on one you have to lose, if you do you agree that they are better and brands are tight, it costs a lot to attack in static and Ibra it costs a world defined, except for played second or air balls . The key to this tie is the defense and attack our bands that leverage we have, that can be with recoveries ball off them for a while, or quick counterattack outputs.
It seems to me that are far from Madrid, Barca, Atletico or even Sevilla. I think you can do them harm pressuring them up, without Ibra lose a lot but they still have 50 million players you meet at any time, eye. The martial, Pogba, rasford, etc are corpulentes players, which costs us a world remove the ball, and when that happens the Celtic comes down physically. That's my fear.
Did you happen to see the latest results of United? from mid-November nothing but lost 2 games
one against the best Chelsea in recent years and with one less throughout the 2nd part. League have only lost 3 games all year. And only they lost Europa League in the group stage.

You are too underestimating this historic team putting at or below Sevilla. United now takes this to Sevilla in a playoff and eliminated as Leicester did practically doing nothing.
It is the United and Mourinho that if you have not played anything in the playoffs for him and against inferior to them rivals, but Mourinho is a strategist in these conflicts and how to play for United and Mou is precisely that Celta is fatal. We will need to sweat blood to reach the final and some will lose 4 kilos in qualifying as Alonso in Malaysia xd

points: they will be focused on their league and few rotations will. In addition they come without Ibra, Mata and Rojo.
Minuses: our defense. Or they are concentrated Jonny, Cabral, and company and virgin or Rasford, Mkitarian, Ander Herrera and company we can make a pretty good - looking fault appears to us. If it did Genk or Krasnodar with those confusions of young fish I do not want to imagine these.

Hopefully move on but I see 30% -70% in favor of United.
Besides, no one says they are no better than us but are far from the great United of other times and more without Ibra who puts half the goals they do. And I maintain, are no better than Sevilla without Ibra further.
Good morning everyone! Here is a celtista of settled cot in Madrid.

I am with Daviz, they are favorites for sure and their style of play we will especially bad, do not forget that Mou is a great strategist and when he came to Madrid I remember that we won several games and do not know if we've won one at that time but I think not. My opinion is that the tie must raise it as the cup Madrid. A lot of pressure in the middle, put up temporary and quick to counterattack without neglecting the rear never, not out fear, that never, but with defensive caution. I only ask not to leave the tie sentenced Balaidos that we will not get caught. Celta away from home in Europe and in large scenarios grows, forever and this season has shown us. I fear more home party.

That said 100% trust in Berizzo, will study the opponent and seek the best way to hurt them .

Hala a hug and Celta !!!
Mouriño and crossed the path of another Galician team in a European semi - finals. And he disrespected as good scoundrel is. Hopefully we pass over them.
Mourinho becoming the victim from now: if many minutes, if calendar, if fatigue ... It

    is an endearing character Portuguese.
I do not want to talk about favorite one or the other ... I prefer to think that if there was any point in the contemporary history of Manchester where he could win a tie, it might be.
Then of course we will suffer and not be easy and that anything can happen, but the fact is fact
Hopefully I'm wrong but tomorrow I expect a pretty boring game.

Mourinho without going crazy, version vulgar, and we trying to expose little on defense and come with life at Old Trafford.

I hope he doesn't rest Bailly, which has been excellent again, after the drop of form following his presence in the AFCON. If the player's fit, then use him in the most important game, not save them for the Arsenal game or even Celta at home, where is presence might be less missed than away.

“Son muy superables. Da lastima verlos jugar. Cero miedo” / They're beatable. It's dreadful to watch them play. No fear at all.

“Es partido para que Iago sea el delantero. — Con el autobús que nos va a plantar Mourinho? Ni de coña. Guidetti en punta.” / It's a game for Aspas to play as striker. — With the bus Mourinho's going to park here? Not even kidding. Guidetti as striker.

“Los equipos que ponen autobus se nos dan historicamente mal, eso sumado a que tienen al maestro del autobus y de la preparacion de eliminatorias a doble partido” / Teams that park the bus have been historically bad for us, besides they have the master on bus parking and preparation of two game ties.

“Somos el equipo que más goles recibe a balón parado en la liga.” / We're the team with the worst record on corners and freekicks. [A pity United isn't that good at that, though]

“Meter a Fontás ante Rashford o Mkitaryan es suicidarse." / To put Fontás [Celta's expected left center-back] against Rashford or Mkhitaryan it's like suicide.

But, in general, they seem surprisingly pretty confident. Some talk about Radoja (their #6) man-marking Mkhitaryan (only possible if we play 4-2-3-1, I would add).

What's the incentive in paying him and he injures himself due to muscle fatigue? Remember Rojo?

Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but for me the big doubt is Martial/Lingard. Freshness and compactness would mean Lingard, but Martial's been better lately and could solve the game.

Rojo cruciate ligament injury was due to muscle fatigue? Anyway, Bailly had four days rest and, as Mourinho said, he's a special character. The incentive is that he's our best player right now, not only the best center-back, and could help us in a potentially very difficult and decisive game.

Celta Vigo are in for a surpise. They are expecting a confident attacking team full of swagger who want to win - we're going to rock up and park the bus.

1-0 to united, we'll score on the counter.
Playing counter attacking does not mean park the bus .

Think we can get done, United often struggle vs Spanish teams, they're players are at least on par technically, they have few dangerous attackers, we have makeshift CB's, can get really ugly.
On-par technically! FFS! Just because they're Spanish.
