That's a great cover
This, SAF said it was his biggest regret not playing the keeper that made it through all the previous rounds.Romero will start tonight and the final if we go through.
He's played very well and it would be unfair, as well as bizarre, if Mourinho replaces him at this point.
Trolls the lot of em.
- 3% Man Utd 0:5 Celta Vigo
Exactly this.Without fail, every match thread where Romero is likely to start, at least one person says Romero has a mistake in him, accident waiting to happen etc.
He's had a better season than De Gea and deserves to play tonight. Would be a crap message to send to dump him now.
It's not just loyalty, he's been amazing this season. 10 clean sheets in 15 matches, 7 in 10 EL matches. Should definitely play tonight and in the final.I don't get the loyalty towards Romero. We need to win this competition and to to that we need to start arguably our only world class player.
De Gea has to start tonight and for the final if we get there
Exactly. The team comes first. Either you think we're a better team with De Gea (in which case you pick De Gea) or you think we're a better team with Romero (in which case you're weird but I guess you pick Romero).De Gea is better, you don't not play Nerymar in a final because Lingard played solidly in the other games, it's romantic nonsense, Romero is a professional, he knows his role is that of a back up.
Last week was our supposed biggest game of our history, now this week is our biggest game of our history... FixedLast week was our supposed biggest game of the season and Romero played, now this week is our biggest game of the season.. Romero is starting and deserves to.
If your life was on the line, you'd sooner have Romero in goal than De Gea? Even though De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and Romero very definitely isn't?It's not just loyalty, he's been amazing this season. 10 clean sheets in 15 matches, 7 in 10 EL matches. Nail meets headDe Gea is better, you don't not play Nerymar in a final because Lingard played solidly in the other games, it's romantic nonsense, Romero is a professional, he knows his role is that of a back up.
eh I guess? if you split the La Liga table into home and away matches. They're 13th at home (28 points) and 11th away (16 points)Celta supposedly good travellers or am I making things up now?
The difference between the performances of the two players this season can't really be compared to Neymar vs Lingard. It's doing Romero a disservice while also being pretty favourable to De Gea. Even in previous seasons Romero has been pretty consistent.De Gea is better, you don't not play Nerymar in a final because Lingard played solidly in the other games, it's romantic nonsense, Romero is a professional, he knows his role is that of a back up.
My life isn't on the line, a EL semi final is and Romero is more than capable of doing the job.If your life was on the line, you'd sooner have Romero in goal than De Gea?
I'd have De Gea starting but he definitely isn't the best keeper in the world and whenever Romero's played he's been as good as De Gea this season. If your life was on the line, you'd sooner have Romero in goal than De Gea? Even though De Gea is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world and Romero very definitely isn't?
De Gea is the much better keeper, Romero is a guy that was sat on the bench at clubs like Fiorentina before LvG threw him a life line. When you go into the big, important games you play your best players, De Gea is by far the best keeper, not only in our team but arguably in the world, you don't leave him out.The difference between the performances of the two players this season can't really be compared to Neymar vs Lingard. It's doing Romero a disservice while also being pretty favourable to De Gea. Even in previous seasons Romero has been pretty consistent.
Can't really compare league form with Celta playing second string for large parts of the season there but they've only lost one away game in the Europa League and that was to Ajax. They still managed to score two goals though.Celta supposedly good travellers or am I making things up now?
Right. But if your life was on the line you would go with De Gea as he's obviously the better goalkeeper? My life isn't on the line, a EL semi final is and Romero is more than capable of doing the job.
I think Romero commands the area better than De gea recently.Right. But if your life was on the line you would go with De Gea as he's obviously the better goalkeeper?
You're not really comparing like for like though. Goalkeepers are less involved in games than outfield players and therefore there is less opportunity for the difference in class between the two to be as apparent, especially when the lesser goalkeeper has largely featured in low level EL games. The difference between the performances of the two players this season can't really be compared to Neymar vs Lingard. It's doing Romero a disservice while also being pretty favourable to De Gea. Even in previous seasons Romero has been pretty consistent.
That's not really what I asked though.I think Romero commands the area better than De gea recently.
Anderlecht?Why are people so scared?
They were absolutely average at home, that was their chance.
We will boss them at home, apart from sisto/aspas/guidetti they all looked pretty poor.
I really didn't want to reply, this life on the line thing is a tad ridiculous but not as ridiculous as you talking on my behalf.Right. But if your life was on the line you would go with De Gea as he's obviously the better goalkeeper?
Exactly this. Nothing wrong with rotating keepers (or indeed any other players) to maintain match fitness, but when it comes to the crunch you want your best players on the pitch.De Gea is better, you don't not play Nerymar in a final because Lingard played solidly in the other games, it's romantic nonsense, Romero is a professional, he knows his role is that of a back up.
Aye we bottled the chance to get about 3/4 at their ground, could come back to haunt us.I can't shake the feeling we're going to rue the missed chances at their place. These guy's have nothing to lose so will come out of the blocks firing and that's exactly what we can't contain or deal with.
Need an early goal to puncture their spirit. The longer it goes on the more we'll suffer nerves and risk of losing.
But I think it's quite clear that he's right. For a team that won the treble, numerous PLs, three Chammpions League, it's absurd to think that a EL semi-final is the most important game. Are you trying to pull a KellyAnne Conway?
Not exactly true is it? There's a final on the line. Sure we have the away goal but they're hardly going to come out and throw everything in the desperate search for a goal from minute 1. They will have a carefully considered game-plan they plan to execute as will we.I can't shake the feeling we're going to rue the missed chances at their place. These guy's have nothing to lose so will come out of the blocks firing and that's exactly what we can't contain or deal with.

I think he'll too.I think Fellaini will start because of his work rate and general energy. Almost certain to play with three midfielders and I think Carrick will be on the bench.
Hardly surprising that a run of good performances against the likes of Anderlecht, Rostov, St Etienne and Zorya isn't quite enough to persuade people he's a better option than De Gea.Are people still crying over the potential inclusion of Romero? It's really quite pathetic. Romero has been fantastic all tournament, and I have no qualms over our goalkeeper whoever he is.
It is quite surprising that people might think Jose doesn't know this himself. He clearly has his reasons for persisting with Romero thus far. In fact DDG might even be starting tonight, we don't know yet but soon will. Let's at least see who's in goal before throwing our toys out the pram.Hardly surprising that a run of good performances against the likes of Anderlecht, Rostov, St Etienne and Zorya isn't quite enough to persuade people he's a better option than De Gea.
